If your Pixel battery drains too quickly, won’t charge, feels too hot, loses Wi‑Fi, or has a blank or flickering screen, start with reversible checks: restart the phone, install available updates, and use Safe Mode to see whether a downloaded app is involved. Save network resets and factory resets for later—resetting networks removes saved connections, and a factory reset erases your data.
Start with the safest troubleshooting steps
- Restart your Pixel. A restart can clear a temporary software issue. If the screen is unresponsive, use the button-restart instructions in Google’s charging and power-on troubleshooting guide.
- Install Android and app updates. Check for available system updates in Settings and update apps through Google Play. Google’s general Pixel troubleshooting guide recommends updates as an early check.
- Try Safe Mode if an app might be responsible. Safe Mode temporarily disables downloaded apps. If the symptom goes away, uninstall recently added apps one at a time, testing after each removal.
- Use resets only after simpler checks. A network-settings reset removes saved Wi‑Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings. A factory reset erases all data, so back up anything important before considering it. Follow Google’s general troubleshooting steps for the reset procedure that applies to your phone.
Safe Mode automatically turns on Airplane mode. Turn Airplane mode off before using Safe Mode to test Wi‑Fi or calls; otherwise, the test can give a misleading result. Google explains this in its Wi‑Fi troubleshooting instructions.
Pixel battery drains too quickly
Find what is using power
Open Settings > Battery > Battery usage and check which apps are consuming the most power. Update apps and Android, and leave Adaptive Battery and battery optimization enabled. Google’s battery-drain guidance notes that battery behavior may take a few weeks to optimize after a new setup or factory reset. Some additional drain for a few days after a software update can also be normal.
When to seek help
If unusually fast drain continues after a few days following an update, or remains a problem after checking app usage and updates, contact Google support rather than assuming the battery needs replacement. The timing guidance is from Google’s Pixel battery help page; it is not a guarantee that every phone will settle on the same schedule.

Pixel won’t charge, charges slowly, or won’t turn on
Check the power path first
- Try a different outlet, cable, and adapter if available, and remove the case to check that it is not obstructing the connection.
- For wireless charging, remove the case and magnetic accessories, center the phone on the charging pad, and try a wired connection if charging still fails.
- If the phone stops charging near a particular level, temporarily turn off Charging optimization to see whether the setting explains the behavior.
For Google’s recommended charging accessories, use a USB-C PPS adapter rated at 30 W or more, or a USB Power Delivery adapter rated at 15 W or more; actual charging speeds vary by Pixel model. Google recommends a Qi2-certified charger for reliable wireless charging. These are compatibility recommendations, not a reason to replace an accessory that is already working. See Google’s charging and power-on troubleshooting guide.
If the display stays black
Plug in the phone and follow Google’s button-restart steps. If there is no battery icon, reboot the phone and call it from another device. If it rings while the display remains blank, Google advises contacting an authorized repair center. Do not try a manual Fastboot reset casually: Google warns that reset procedures erase device data. See the official charging and power-on instructions.

Pixel phone is too hot
Warmth can happen during video calls, camera recording, streaming, navigation, data transfers, initial setup, or demanding use while charging. Stop intensive activity, move the phone out of sunlight or an enclosed space, lower screen brightness, and give it time to cool.
If the phone is too hot, disconnect it from power, move it somewhere cooler, and do not use it until it has cooled down. Google says thermal protection may limit performance, charging speed, camera use, or connectivity, or put the phone into low-power mode. Repeated thermal shutdowns are a reason to contact support. Follow Google’s overheating guidance.

Pixel Wi‑Fi won’t connect
- Forget and re-add the network. Remove the saved Wi‑Fi network from the phone, then connect again and enter its password.
- Test in Safe Mode. If Wi‑Fi works there, a downloaded app is a likely cause. If it still fails, the network or internet connection may be responsible. Remember to turn off the Airplane mode that Safe Mode enables automatically.
- Check date and time. Make sure automatic date and time are turned on.
- Check the router or sign-in page. If it is your own network, restart the router and modem and check their cables. On public Wi‑Fi, open a browser and look for a sign-in page or terms to accept.
- Reset Bluetooth & Wi‑Fi settings only if needed. This removes saved Wi‑Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings, so expect to reconnect devices afterward.
Google’s Wi‑Fi troubleshooting guide covers these checks.
Pixel screen flickers, shows lines, or stays black
Flicker, tint, or lines
Install available system updates if the display flickers, has a green tint, or shows horizontal or vertical lines. A cracked screen or dead pixels require repair; a software reset is not a dependable fix for physical display damage. See Google’s screen troubleshooting instructions.

Blank display
Try the button restart while the phone is plugged in. If it rings when called but the screen remains blank, contact an authorized repair center. Google’s charging and power-on guide describes this check.

When to stop troubleshooting
Contact Google support or an authorized repair center for a cracked display, dead pixels, a phone that rings while its screen stays blank, or repeated thermal shutdowns. For other persistent faults, Google’s help center provides separate instructions for issues such as camera, Bluetooth, cellular, setup, location, and apps; use the guide for the specific symptom instead of assuming that Wi‑Fi or general reset steps apply.
