If ChatGPT is blank, stuck loading, or showing a network error, start by checking OpenAI’s service status, then test your browser and network settings. A “Sorry, you have been blocked” message is a separate IP-block case; an “unsupported country” notice is a regional availability restriction, not a technical error to bypass.
Identify which ChatGPT access problem you have
The message you see—and whether ChatGPT works in another browser, device, or network—helps distinguish a temporary service issue from a local configuration problem or a regional restriction.

Fix a blank page, loading problem, or network error
1. Check for a service incident
Visit the OpenAI status page to see whether a known incident could explain slow or unresponsive behavior. If no incident is shown, refresh ChatGPT or start a new chat and see whether the error clears.

- Open ChatGPT in a private or incognito window. If it works there, an extension or stored browser data may be involved.
- Try a different browser. Temporarily disable extensions, especially privacy or security tools, script blockers, and content blockers.
- If the problem remains, clear the browser cache, cookies, or site data for ChatGPT. Sign out and back in if needed.
3. Test the network and its filters
For “A network error occurred,” websocket errors, or persistent loading, turn off VPNs and proxies and temporarily disable security-filter or secure-DNS products, including tools such as Web Protect. Then try ChatGPT on another network or device, if available. OpenAI recommends these checks because network configuration and filters can interfere with connections.

If the service works on another network, the original network or one of its filters is a likely cause. If it fails across browsers, devices, and networks, collect diagnostics and contact Support rather than repeatedly changing settings.
What to do about “Sorry, you have been blocked”
This message is different from an ordinary loading failure. OpenAI says Cloudflare may block an IP address because of suspicious activity, VPN use, geolocation, or temporary IP restrictions.

- Turn off a VPN or proxy, then try again.
- If possible, try from another location or network.
- Wait and retry if the restriction is temporary; OpenAI does not promise a particular release time or an instant fix.

What an unsupported-country notice means
ChatGPT is not supported in every country or territory. Check the current supported-country list; availability can change. OpenAI warns: “Accessing or offering access to ChatGPT or the OpenAI API from an unsupported country may result in your account being blocked or suspended.” A VPN is not a legitimate fix for regional unavailability, and attempting to access the service from an unsupported location can put the account at risk.

If the error happens while traveling
An account created in a supported region may still have access trouble while its owner is traveling in an unsupported region. OpenAI also notes that an unsupported-region message can sometimes persist after the traveler returns to a supported region.
- Clear the browser cache and cookies for ChatGPT.
- Try another browser or open ChatGPT in a private or incognito window.
- If the notice remains, contact OpenAI Support. OpenAI’s travel-specific guidance is I’m traveling to a different country and I can’t access ChatGPT or the API.
When and how to contact OpenAI Support
Escalate if the error persists across browsers, devices, and networks, or if the applicable troubleshooting steps do not resolve it. OpenAI recommends collecting diagnostic details so Support can investigate the failure.
- A HAR file, recorded using OpenAI’s HAR-file instructions.
- Browser-console errors and the timestamps when the problem occurred.
- The model you were using and the affected conversation’s URL or ID, if applicable.
Then contact Support through the OpenAI Help Center and include the details you collected.
