Remove anything that could obstruct the control before trying a restart or iOS update. If it remains damaged or intermittent, arrange service through Apple.
First, confirm the iPhone and the symptom
Apple’s current controls overview identifies iPhone 16 and later models with Camera Control. If your iPhone does not have the control, these steps will not add it; check Apple’s Camera Control overview and model-specific instructions for your device and iOS version.

Pinpoint what happens when you use it: does a click do nothing, open an unexpected app, or open Camera while the light-press and swipe gestures fail? A click’s assigned action is controlled separately from its gestures, so start with the setting that matches your symptom.
Check which app a click opens
Go to Settings > Camera > Camera Control. Choose the intended option: Camera, Code Scanner, Magnifier, None, or, where available, a favorite third-party camera app. If the selection is None, clicking the control will not open an app.

Check the opening behavior as well. Camera Control can be set to require a single click or a double click. If you expect one click to launch the app but the setting is Double Click, use the configured gesture or change the setting. Apple’s Camera Control instructions explain the available choices.
Enable and adjust light-press and swipe gestures
If clicking opens Camera but its controls do not respond, go to Settings > Accessibility > Camera Control. Make sure Camera Control is enabled, then check the gesture you are trying to use:

- Light-Press: Enable it to bring up the controls overlay. If the press is missed, try a different Light-Press Force setting.
- Swipe: Enable it if you use swipes to access or adjust controls.
- Double Light-Press Speed: If a light double press is not registering, try adjusting its speed.
These settings can explain gestures that are disabled or difficult to trigger, but changing them does not establish whether the button hardware is working. See Apple’s Camera Control accessibility settings.
Test for a case or debris blocking the control
Remove the case and any protective film that could cover or impede Camera Control, then test it again. Inspect around the control for dirt or debris and clean it with a soft cloth. Apple recommends checking for obstructions in its button troubleshooting guidance.

If the control works with the case removed, a case designed for your exact iPhone model with clearance around Camera Control may avoid the obstruction. A case is not a repair for a damaged or faulty button.
Restart and update if the camera itself is the problem
If settings are correct and the control is unobstructed, restart the iPhone and install the latest iOS version available for that device. Then test again. Apple includes restarting and updating among its recommended steps for camera or flash problems in its camera and flash troubleshooting article. These are general camera troubleshooting steps, not a guaranteed fix for a Camera Control button fault.

When to arrange a repair
If Camera Control is visibly damaged, works intermittently, or still fails after these checks, contact Apple Support or arrange a repair. Apple’s guidance is direct: “If a button or switch still isn’t working, is damaged or works intermittently, you can set up a repair.” See If the side button or another button isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad. A symptom alone does not identify which internal component, if any, has failed.
