How to Fix Browshot Screenshots Missing Images or Web Fonts

A step-by-step way to diagnose Browshot screenshots with missing images or web fonts, from stale captures and rendering delays to browser settings and failed asset requests.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If a Browshot screenshot is missing images or web fonts, first request a fresh capture with cache=0, then allow more rendering time and check Browshot’s browser image-loading setting. These steps help separate an old or early screenshot from a page or asset request that is actually failing. A successful screenshot job alone does not confirm that every image and font loaded.

1. Rule out a cached screenshot

Browshot documents a 24-hour default cache period. Add cache=0 to request a new capture before changing other settings; otherwise, you may be inspecting an older screenshot rather than the current page rendering. Confirm that the request also uses the intended URL and browser instance.

See Browshot’s API documentation for the cache parameter and other request options.

2. Give the page more time to render

Browshot documents a default post-load delay of five seconds. Increase it to test whether JavaScript-populated content, late images, or fonts appear after that interval. This is a diagnostic, not proof that the underlying asset problem has been fixed.

If the page is slow to reach its PageLoad event, Browshot also offers max_wait. The documented delay still applies after Browshot waits for that event, so consider both values when testing a slow page. Browshot says captures are automatically aborted if a page takes more than two minutes to load and that failed screenshots are not charged; these are vendor statements on its features page.

3. Test pages that populate content asynchronously

Browshot accepts a JavaScript URL or inline script, run just after the page-load event. This can help make a wait or page action reproducible when an application fills in content asynchronously. The script must finish within the configured delay; Browshot’s JavaScript guide gives a maximum script-completion time of 10 seconds. Do not treat a script as a guaranteed fix for missing fonts or images.

See Browshot’s JavaScript guide for the supported script options and timing details.

4. Check the browser’s image-loading setting

Browshot allows image loading to be enabled or disabled in a browser feature set. Check the settings for the specific browser or instance used by the request and make sure image loading is enabled. Browshot’s documentation describes this image toggle but does not identify a corresponding web-font toggle, so do not assume that a font setting is the cause.

Browshot says its service uses desktop and mobile browsers, supports HTML5 and CSS3, follows redirects, and lets users enable or disable HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and image loading. See its feature documentation.

5. Inspect the capture response and destination

Check the screenshot status and error details, the final URL, and the main page’s response code. A successful capture only indicates that Browshot produced a screenshot; it does not establish that individual image or font requests succeeded.

  • For Browshot’s Simple API, a 200 response indicates a successful PNG response.
  • A 404 indicates a capture failure, with an explanation in the X-Error response header.
  • A 400 indicates an invalid request; check the X-Error header for details.
  • A 302 means the screenshot is still in progress; follow the redirect as directed by the response.

Compare the final URL with the URL you requested. An unexpected redirect can send the browser to a page with different content or access requirements. Browshot documents response and error details in its API documentation.

6. Consider regional differences only when plausible

Some websites serve different content depending on the visitor’s country. If the target is known to vary geographically, compare captures using Browshot’s documented Germany, UK, USA, or Australia regional IP options. A regional comparison is a way to test that specific hypothesis, not a general fix for missing assets. The available options are described in Browshot’s API documentation and features page.

7. If only certain assets are still missing

If the page itself renders but particular images or fonts remain absent in a fresh, adequately timed capture, investigate those assets using the target site’s normal browser debugging tools. Check whether the page requests the asset, whether the request succeeds, and whether the browser console reports a relevant error. Browshot’s reviewed documentation does not give a specific missing-font diagnosis procedure, so the asset’s own network and page behavior are the next place to look.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API accepts one GET request with a URL and returns a screenshot or PDF; it removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are not billed. An MCP server lets AI agents use its screenshot tools, and the free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. See the API documentation for options and response details.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a successful Browshot screenshot mean every image and font loaded?

No. The screenshot job can succeed even if an individual image or font request fails; inspect the page and asset behavior separately.

Does increasing the delay guarantee that missing web fonts will appear?

No. A longer delay tests whether late rendering is involved, but it does not repair a failed asset request.

Is there a documented Browshot setting to enable web-font loading?

The cited Browshot documentation describes an image-loading toggle but does not identify a corresponding web-font toggle.
