Most wireless-speaker connection failures have a specific cause: the speaker is not actually in pairing mode, it is still connected to another device, the phone or computer retained stale pairing data, or the source cannot send compatible Bluetooth audio. Work through the least disruptive checks first. Put the speaker in its model-specific pairing mode, keep it close to the source, select the correct entry, disconnect other devices, and only then forget the pairing or reset the speaker.
Identify the failure before changing anything
The words “paired” and “connected” describe different states. Pairing stores an authorization between two devices. A connection is the active Bluetooth link carrying audio now. A speaker can appear in a phone’s saved-device list while being disconnected, connected to another source, or unable to carry audio.

| What you see | Most likely area to check | First action |
|---|---|---|
| The speaker never appears in the Bluetooth list | Power, pairing mode, distance, or another active connection | Turn the speaker on, enter its pairing mode, move it within about 1 m (3.3 ft), and scan again. |
| The speaker appears but pairing fails | Stale saved data, another connected source, compatibility, or an incorrect device entry | Disconnect other sources, select the normal speaker name, and retry. Forget the saved entry only if ordinary reconnection fails. |
| The speaker says it is paired but will not connect | Automatic reconnection did not occur or the speaker is busy | Open Bluetooth settings and manually select the saved speaker. |
| The phone says connected but no sound comes out | Audio output selection, volume, profile support, or an incorrect low-energy entry | Choose the speaker as the active audio output and verify that the source supports Bluetooth audio. |
| It works with one source but not another | Problem on the original phone, tablet, computer, or TV | Compare Bluetooth settings, software state, and audio compatibility on the failing source. |
| It fails with several known-good sources | Speaker memory, firmware or hardware fault | Follow the exact model reset procedure, then contact the manufacturer if the fault remains. |
1. Confirm power and enter the correct pairing mode
Check the speaker itself
Charge the speaker enough to keep it on during setup, switch it on, and check that it is not shutting down or announcing a low-battery condition. If it has separate Power and Bluetooth buttons, pressing Power alone may not make it discoverable. Pairing controls vary by model, so use the speaker’s manual or its labeled Bluetooth control rather than a button combination copied from another product.

Check the source device
Turn Bluetooth on in the phone, tablet, computer, or television. Keep the Bluetooth settings page open while you put the speaker into pairing mode; many devices refresh their nearby-device list only while that page is active. If the speaker does not appear, use the page’s refresh or rescan control where one is provided.
2. Scan at close range and select the right entry
For the Sony troubleshooting procedure that covers applicable models, the recommended distance between source and speaker is within 1 m (3.3 ft). Use that as a diagnostic distance even if the speaker normally works farther away. Temporarily remove walls, metal cabinets, and other nearby wireless equipment from the path.
- Open the source device’s Bluetooth settings.
- Put the speaker into its confirmed pairing mode.
- Wait for the speaker name to appear under available or nearby devices.
- Select the ordinary speaker name and approve the pairing request or PIN if prompted.
- Wait for the status to change to connected before playing audio.
Do not select a similarly named entry just because it appears first. On some Sony products, an entry beginning with LE_ is intended for low-energy functions rather than the normal audio connection. Sony warns that choosing that entry can produce a connection failure or no sound on the covered models. Use the non-LE_ audio entry when the model’s guide identifies one; this is not a universal rule for every Bluetooth product.
3. Reconnect a speaker that was paired previously
A saved entry proves only that the two devices exchanged pairing information at some point. It does not prove that the speaker is currently connected. Turn Bluetooth on, turn the speaker on, and manually tap the speaker’s saved name in the source device’s Bluetooth settings. Wait for the connected status or an audible confirmation.
If the saved entry reports “not connected,” do not immediately reset the speaker. First make sure the speaker is awake, within close range, and not connected to another device. A manual selection often restores a normal saved connection without deleting anything.

4. Release the speaker from another connected device
Many connection failures occur because a phone, tablet, laptop, or television that was used earlier still owns the active link. Some speakers permit several remembered devices but only one active audio connection; others provide model-specific multipoint behavior. Never assume that a saved device is harmless.
- Look at every nearby source that has used the speaker.
- Pause playback and disconnect the speaker in that device’s Bluetooth settings, or turn Bluetooth off there temporarily.
- Return to the source you want to use and select the speaker again.
Bose support also recommends checking whether the source is already connected to another product. If disconnecting the other source solves the problem, no reset was necessary.

Choose the Bluetooth output
A successful Bluetooth connection does not always change the source device’s active audio output. Open the phone, tablet, computer, or TV audio-output selector and choose the wireless speaker instead of the built-in speaker, headphones, HDMI receiver, or another Bluetooth product. Start playback only after the speaker is shown as the selected output.
Check both volume controls
Raise the source volume gradually and use the speaker’s own volume controls. Confirm that the source is not muted and that the individual app is not routed to a different output. Test a system sound or a second app to distinguish an app-specific route from a Bluetooth problem.
Verify the audio profile
Sony identifies support for sending audio with the Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) as a requirement for the applicable source-and-speaker connection. A computer or other source that lacks Bluetooth audio-sending support cannot be fixed by repeatedly pairing the speaker. Check the source specifications and its Bluetooth settings before changing the speaker.

6. Remove a stale pairing only when ordinary reconnection fails
Saved information can become unusable after a source operating-system update, a speaker being paired with many products, or an interrupted setup. Removing the saved entry from the source creates a clean pairing attempt, but it also means the source will no longer remember that speaker until you pair it again.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- In the source’s Bluetooth settings, open the options for the speaker.
- Choose the label used by that platform, such as Forget, Remove device, or Unpair.
- Turn Bluetooth off and on again, or close and reopen the settings page.
- Put the speaker back into pairing mode and select it as a new device.
Use the source device’s exact menu labels; Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and television interfaces differ by version and manufacturer. Forgetting the entry affects that source only. It does not necessarily erase the speaker’s own remembered-device list.
7. Clear the speaker’s remembered devices separately
Some speakers store their own list of previously authorized sources. If that list is full or contains conflicting records, deleting one entry on the phone may not be enough. The procedure and button sequence are model-specific. Consult the speaker’s manual for a “clear Bluetooth memory,” “clear paired devices,” or equivalent function.
Clearing memory is more disruptive than manually reconnecting or forgetting one source: every previously authorized source may have to pair again. Record which devices you use before clearing the list, and do not substitute a reset sequence from a different model.
8. Reset only after less disruptive checks
A factory or Bluetooth reset is a later diagnostic step, not a default reconnection shortcut. JBL describes reset as drastic, warns that it erases all pairings, and advises against using it merely to reconnect. Sony’s model-specific troubleshooting flow places a reset after earlier checks fail. These recommendations fit the same order: reconnect normally, make a fresh pairing, clear saved information if justified, and then follow the exact reset instructions for the model.

- What Can I do if the Bluetooth adapter can not work?: Ensure there are no other Bluetooth devices installed on the computer. If there are, disable all existing Bluetooth devices in "Device Manager", then insert the adapter and try again. (For detailed information please read the user manual)
There is no universal Bluetooth-speaker reset button combination. The correct sequence can depend on the model, hardware revision, and whether the speaker is on or charging. Find the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact model, note the expected indicator or sound, and plan to pair every source again afterward.
9. Check source-device and speaker compatibility
Phones and tablets
Confirm that the operating system has Bluetooth enabled and that the speaker is selected for media audio, not merely listed for calls or control. If the phone can pair with other Bluetooth audio products but not this speaker, compare the behavior after forgetting the speaker and pairing it again. If another phone succeeds, focus on the first phone’s saved data, software state, or audio-profile support.
Windows and Mac computers
Verify that the computer actually has Bluetooth hardware and that its settings offer an audio output profile. A desktop without Bluetooth cannot discover a speaker until compatible hardware is added. An optional USB Bluetooth adapter can address that specific capability gap, but it is not a general remedy when the computer already discovers the speaker or when the fault is in the speaker’s pairing memory.
After pairing on a computer, select the speaker in the operating system’s sound-output panel. If it appears under Bluetooth devices but not as an available audio output, investigate the computer’s audio profile or adapter support rather than repeatedly resetting the speaker.
Televisions and other sources
Television Bluetooth menus often separate accessory pairing from audio-output selection. Follow the television’s instructions for Bluetooth audio, then choose the speaker as the active sound destination. If the TV can see the speaker but cannot complete pairing, test the speaker with a phone first; that comparison identifies whether the TV or speaker is the limiting side.

10. Use another source as a diagnostic test
Testing a second phone, tablet, or computer provides more information than repeating the same attempt. Put the speaker into pairing mode and try a source that has not used it before.
- Second source succeeds: the speaker’s radio and basic pairing function are probably working. Investigate the original source’s Bluetooth state, saved entry, output selection, or A2DP capability.
- Several sources fail: repeat the documented close-range, pairing-mode, and other-device checks, then use the model-specific memory-clear or reset procedure.
- Failure continues after the documented reset: contact the manufacturer or an authorized repair service with the exact model, source devices tested, indicator behavior, and steps already completed.
This test does not prove that every speaker component is healthy, but it separates a source-side configuration problem from a fault that follows the speaker.
Common symptoms and targeted fixes
“The speaker is not discoverable.”
- Confirm power and battery condition.
- Enter pairing mode again; a steady light may indicate an existing connection.
- Move the speaker and source within about 1 m (3.3 ft) for the test.
- Disconnect nearby devices that may already be using the speaker.
- Refresh the source’s Bluetooth list.
“It asks for pairing, then fails.”
- Cancel the attempt on both devices and start pairing mode again.
- Ensure you selected the normal audio name, not a model-specific
LE_entry. - Forget the source’s saved speaker entry and pair again.
- Check whether the source supports sending A2DP audio.
“It reconnects, then immediately drops.”
- Check whether another remembered source is taking the active connection.
- Keep the devices close while completing setup.
- Test with a different source to determine whether the drop follows one device.
- If every source drops after a documented reset, seek model-specific service.
“It connects but there is no sound.”
- Select the speaker as the active media output.
- Check source and speaker volume and remove mute.
- Test another app or system sound.
- Verify that the connection uses the model’s normal audio entry and that the source supports A2DP.
Choose the least disruptive remedy
| Action | What it changes | When to use it | Diagnostic value |
|---|---|---|---|
| Manually reconnect | Starts the existing saved link | The speaker is already listed but not connected | Shows whether the saved authorization still works |
| Disconnect another source | Releases the active connection | The speaker may be occupied by another phone, tablet, or computer | Confirms a one-active-connection limitation |
| Forget and pair again | Deletes the source’s saved record | The saved record may be stale or corrupted | Separates saved-data problems from radio or compatibility problems |
| Clear speaker memory | Deletes remembered sources on the speaker | The model supports this and ordinary re-pairing failed | Tests whether the speaker’s device list is the obstacle |
| Factory or Bluetooth reset | Erases pairings and restores the model’s reset state | Only after earlier steps and the exact manual procedure | Useful for persistent configuration faults, but disruptive |
| Try another source | Changes the test device without altering the speaker | At any point you need to isolate the failing side | High: success elsewhere points to the original source |
What not to do
- Do not use a reset combination from a different speaker model.
- Do not assume that “paired” means “currently connected.”
- Do not keep retrying while another device remains connected.
- Do not treat a USB adapter as a cure for a speaker that is already discoverable on a Bluetooth-equipped computer.
- Do not delete every Bluetooth device on a source when removing only the affected speaker is sufficient.
- Do not infer a universal rule from a model-specific
LE_entry or multipoint behavior.
When manufacturer support is the right next step
Contact the speaker manufacturer or an authorized service provider when the speaker cannot pair with multiple compatible sources after close-range pairing, releasing other connections, fresh pairing, and the documented reset. Provide the exact model and region, the source devices and operating-system versions tested, whether the speaker appears during scanning, the indicator or sound during pairing mode, and whether another source ever succeeds. Those details let support distinguish a configuration issue from a hardware or firmware fault.
Before service, preserve any purchase or warranty information and avoid undocumented button combinations that could erase useful diagnostic state. Procedures, indicators, multipoint behavior, reset controls, and menus vary by model and source device, so the exact manual remains the authority for final button sequences.
Quick Recap
Prevent the next connection problem
- Turn off Bluetooth on an old source when you want a different device to connect to a speaker that permits only one active link.
- Keep the speaker’s model manual available for its pairing, memory-clear, and reset controls.
- When lending the speaker to another source, expect to select it manually again later rather than assuming automatic reconnection.
- Remember that forgetting a speaker on a phone and clearing the speaker’s own memory are separate actions.
- For a computer, confirm Bluetooth hardware and A2DP audio support before buying an adapter.
- Use a second source as an early diagnostic when you need to decide whether to troubleshoot the speaker or the original device.
