If the blue text is a phone number, address, or date rather than one of your navigation links, a mail app may have detected it and made it clickable; that needs a different, client-specific diagnosis.
First identify what turned blue
Look at the message markup and the affected text. An authored navigation link appears in the HTML as an <a> element. Plain text such as a phone number or address may instead have been automatically recognized as a link by the app displaying the email.

- Your own navigation link: style the anchor element in the email HTML.
- Contact information or a date: note the app, device, and operating system; automatic link styling varies by client.
- Gmail’s application interface: this advice concerns the appearance of links inside an email, not changing Gmail’s own interface colors.
Set the color on navigation anchors
Put the desired color and text decoration directly on the anchor. For example:

Replace the example URL and color with your own. Choose a color that contrasts with the email background, and keep an underline or another clear cue so readers can tell the text is clickable.

Google’s Gmail CSS support documentation says, “Most CSS selectors, attributes, and media-queries are supported.” Gmail supports standard CSS in email, including embedded <style> blocks and class, element, and ID selectors, but unsupported properties or selectors may be ignored. If you use a class or embedded rule instead of an inline style, make sure your sending platform preserves it and inspect the delivered message.
Check whether the sending platform changes your HTML
- Open the sent message’s HTML or source and confirm the affected navigation text is inside an
<a>element. - Check that the intended
colorandtext-decorationare on that anchor, not only on a surrounding table cell or container. - Review the markup after sending. A template editor or email service may rewrite or remove styles, so the source you entered may not match the delivered email.
- Send a test message and check it in the Gmail web or mobile view where the blue links appeared.
If the blue text is automatically detected
When a phone number, address, or date becomes blue and underlined, first establish which client is displaying the message. Advice about suppressing or restyling automatically generated links is not universal. Critical Impact describes an approach for blue links added in iPhone and iPad email views, using a class on the target text and a style in the message head. It notes that the generated link remains tappable and recommends checking on a phone or with an iOS inbox preview. That is iOS-specific guidance, not evidence that the same technique fixes Gmail web or Gmail mobile.

Test any client-specific styling in the actual app and device where the issue occurs. The available guidance does not establish a universal fix for automatically detected links in Gmail or a general solution for dark-mode color changes.

Test the delivered email on the affected device
Gmail supports responsive email styling, but responsive behavior is not a guarantee that every link-color declaration will render identically everywhere. Google product manager Pierce Vollucci wrote in 2016 that “Text, links, and even buttons will enlarge to make reading and tapping easier on a smaller screen.” That statement concerns responsive rendering, not a remedy for blue links. Compare the sent email in the specific Gmail view and other inbox/device combinations your readers use, and check light and dark appearance if the color change seems theme-dependent.
Apple’s Mail Links reference explains the mailto: scheme for opening a compose sheet; it does not provide guidance on Gmail email CSS or automatic link colors.
