Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFirst determine whether the audio is out of sync by a steady amount or whether the gap grows as the stream runs. A fixed offset and accumulating drift have different likely causes, so do not treat an OBS sync-offset adjustment as a universal fix. Check sample rates across OBS and the audio chain, inspect OBS statistics, and review YouTube Live stream health before changing settings.
Tell fixed offset from accumulating drift
Compare a repeatable event near the start with the same event later in the recording or stream replay—for example, a visible handclap or a clearly timed instrument strike. If the audio is displaced by about the same amount at both points, the mismatch is steady. If it is increasingly early or late, the discrepancy is accumulating.

This comparison is a practical diagnostic method, not a kirtan-specific test prescribed by YouTube or OBS. Make the comparison using the actual long-running setup, and repeat it after each change. A nominally matching sample rate does not always rule out timing differences: OBS community discussions describe possible drift when physical devices have independent clocks. That is a possibility to investigate, not a rule that applies to every setup.

Check sample rates throughout the audio chain
Inspect the rate configured in OBS, the operating-system audio devices, virtual audio devices, capture hardware, and any primary and backup stream outputs. Use one consistent rate throughout the chain where possible. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documentation lists 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended audio sample rates and identifies primary/backup stream rate mismatches as a configuration issue. OBS forum guidance also identifies inconsistent device rates as a possible cause of drift or distortion; that forum guidance is community advice rather than formal OBS documentation.

- Choose the rate supported by your complete setup, then make the relevant devices and OBS agree.
- If your setup uses a primary and backup output, check that their audio configurations match.
- Do not infer that selecting 48 kHz alone will cure accumulating drift; it is consistency across the chain and the clock behavior that matter.
YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS and provides audio configuration guidance. Treat RTMPS as an encoder connection recommendation, not as a guaranteed correction for timing drift. The guidance’s association of 44.1 kHz with stereo and 48 kHz with 5.1 surround is specific to that published configuration advice; it should not be generalized into a universal mapping for every audio setup.
Simplify setups with multiple audio devices
If OBS combines audio from separate USB devices, capture hardware, or virtual devices, test with a simpler routing arrangement. Separate hardware devices may rely on separate clocks, and matching their displayed sample rates may not make those clocks behave identically over a long run. Compare the result with fewer devices active or with sources routed through a single interface that has the inputs you need.

- The new generation of the songwriter's interface: Plug in your mic and guitar and let Scarlett Solo 4th Gen bring big studio sound to wherever you make music
- Studio-quality sound: With a huge 120dB dynamic range, the newest generation of Scarlett uses the same converters as Focusrite’s flagship interfaces, found in the world's biggest studios
- Find your signature sound: Scarlett 4th Gen's improved Air mode lifts vocals and guitars to the front of the mix, adding musical presence and rich harmonic drive to your recordings

- Everything in the box: Includes Pro Tools Intro+, Ableton Live Lite, Cubase LE, and Hitmaker Expansion: a suite of essential effects, powerful software instruments, and easy-to-use mastering tools
Keep the change practical: first try settings alignment or simpler routing, which may be enough. An interface with multiple inputs is a hardware option only if your source count or clock arrangement makes it relevant; buying one is not a guaranteed fix. Compare candidate arrangements by how many devices and clocks they involve, the inputs available, setup complexity, and whether drift persists during a long test.

OBS statistics and dropped frames
Open OBS statistics while the stream is running and note network-dropped frames and other performance indicators. OBS’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide explains that dropped frames indicate an unstable connection or one that cannot sustain the configured bitrate. That is a reason to investigate network delivery or bitrate capacity; dropped frames alone do not prove audio clock drift. OBS notes that bitrate adaptation can reduce dropped frames, at a possible cost to stream quality.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.

YouTube Live stream health
Review the stream health information in YouTube Live for audio sample-rate, channel, or primary/backup configuration warnings, and correct any reported mismatch. YouTube documents these configuration issues in its LiveStreams documentation and LiveStream configuration issues. Also check YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions guidance for the encoder configuration relevant to your stream.
Use this troubleshooting sequence
- Record the symptom. Note whether the stream starts out of sync or becomes progressively more displaced. Compare a repeatable audio/visual event near the beginning and later in a local recording or stream replay.
- Check the entire sample-rate chain. Compare OBS, operating-system devices, virtual audio devices, capture hardware, and any primary/backup outputs. Align the settings at a rate supported across the setup.
- Reduce device complexity for a test. If separate devices feed OBS, simplify the routing or temporarily remove a device, then repeat the long-run comparison. Change one part of the chain at a time.
- Inspect OBS statistics. If network-dropped frames appear, troubleshoot connection stability or bitrate capacity as a delivery issue, separately from sample-rate and clock checks.
- Review YouTube Live health. Resolve reported audio sample-rate, channel, or primary/backup mismatches.
- Compare local and delivered output. Check both the local capture and the live output or replay, if available. If the local file stays synchronized but the delivered stream does not, the problem may be later in the chain; the cited documentation does not establish a universal YouTube-side correction.
Change one variable at a time and repeat the same comparison. If you alter sample rate, routing, or bitrate together, a better or worse result will not tell you which change mattered.

Common symptoms and what to check
| What you observe | What to check next |
|---|---|
| Audio is already displaced at the beginning and stays similarly displaced later | Confirm the mismatch is fixed with repeatable events, then inspect the capture and synchronization settings. Do not assume a growing clock mismatch. |
| The mismatch grows as the stream runs | Check sample-rate consistency and whether separate audio devices have independent clocks; test a simpler routing arrangement. |
| OBS reports network-dropped frames | Investigate connection stability and whether the connection can sustain the configured bitrate. This indicator does not by itself establish audio clock drift. |
| YouTube Live reports an audio or primary/backup configuration issue | Correct the reported sample-rate, channel, or stream-output mismatch and test again. |
| The local recording is synchronized but the live output or replay is not | Investigate the delivery/output portion of the chain after confirming the comparison is repeatable; the available YouTube and OBS guidance does not give a single guaranteed correction for this case. |
YouTube’s guidance about mismatched audio and video track durations concerns uploaded videos, not live-stream clock drift. It may be relevant if a prerecorded upload itself is out of sync, but it is not direct evidence of the cause of drift in a live broadcast.
