To fix audio crackling in a 24/7 YouTube rain stream, first find out where the sound becomes distorted: compare the original rain audio, encoder monitoring, a local recording and YouTube playback. Then check source routing and levels, review YouTube’s audio settings and stream-health messages, and test one change at a time before restoring the continuous schedule. There is no single confirmed cause for every crackling stream, and the available guidance does not identify a cause specific to India.
Find where the crackling begins
Listen to the rain file or feed outside the livestream, then compare it with the encoder’s monitoring or preview, a local recording of the encoder output, and playback on the live YouTube page. This comparison narrows the part of the chain to inspect; it does not assume YouTube is changing the audio.
- The source already crackles: Check the file or feed, the app or device playing it, and any processing before it reaches the encoder.
- The source is clean but the encoder monitor or local recording crackles: Focus on source selection, routing, levels and the encoding chain.
- The local recording is clean but YouTube playback crackles: Review YouTube’s stream-health messages and compare playback under another listening condition before changing equipment.
Keep a local recording when possible. It gives you a useful before-and-after comparison when you test a change.
Check the audio source, routing and levels
Confirm that the intended rain source—not an unintended capture device—is reaching the stream. Check whether the same source has been added or routed twice, and whether its level is being driven high enough to distort. These are practical checks, not a diagnosis of your particular setup.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Play the source by itself and listen for crackling before it enters the streaming software.
- Verify the selected input or playback source and remove unintended duplicate routes.
- Reduce a source level that sounds distorted; avoid compensating for a weak source by pushing the encoder output into distortion.
- After each adjustment, compare the encoder monitor and a fresh local recording with the original.
Compare encoder settings with YouTube’s guidance
YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists RTMP or RTMPS for delivery, AAC or MP3 audio, and constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. For audio, it specifies 44.1 kHz for stereo or 48 kHz for 5.1 surround, with 128 Kbps for stereo or 384 Kbps for 5.1. Match the setting to the channel format you actually intend to stream; YouTube’s listed stereo sample rate is 44.1 kHz, not 48 kHz. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
| Audio format | Sample rate | Bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| Stereo | 44.1 kHz | 128 Kbps |
| 5.1 surround | 48 kHz | 384 Kbps |
These are YouTube’s published settings, not a guarantee that changing a setting will cure crackling. Do not change several unrelated options at once: make one adjustment, record a test, and compare the result.

Read YouTube’s stream-health messages
YouTube’s Live API health reference identifies audio configuration warnings and errors for bitrate that is too high or too low, unsupported codecs, sample rate, mismatched sample rates between primary and backup audio, stereo mismatches, too many audio channels, multiple audio streams, and a missing audio stream. If Live Control Room displays a message, use it to guide the next check rather than guessing. The reference was last updated 2026-09-14 UTC: YouTube Live stream health messages.
A message about channel count or sample rate points to configuration to verify; it does not by itself prove the precise source of an audible crackle. Check the primary and backup audio paths too if both are configured.

Keep network problems separate from audio artifacts
Audio crackling and dropped frames are different symptoms. OBS explains that dropped frames mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. That can interrupt a stream, but it does not establish why the audio is crackling. See the OBS stream-connection troubleshooting guide (dated 2024-09-30).
If Live Control Room or your encoder also reports dropped frames or disconnections, investigate the network path separately:

- Check whether the configured video bitrate is sustainable on your stable upload connection; OBS suggests lowering it if the connection cannot keep up.
- Try a wired connection, another server or service, and check for VPN or security software interference.
- Consider router or modem trouble, outdated network drivers, or faulty hardware such as a damaged network cable.
These are network troubleshooting steps, not direct audio-crackle fixes. A replacement cable is relevant only if a wired cable is suspected or shown to be faulty.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Test safely before resuming a 24/7 schedule
YouTube advises testing before going live with audio and video movement similar to the actual broadcast. For a rain stream, include the actual rain source and the runtime conditions used for the continuous stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance also says to use a 2-second keyframe interval and not to exceed 4 seconds; that is video guidance, not an audio-crackle remedy.

- Save or note the current encoder and audio settings.
- Run a representative test and monitor stream health and its messages in Live Control Room.
- Change one relevant source, routing or audio setting at a time; make a local recording after each change.
- Compare the new recording and YouTube playback with the original source and prior test.
- When the result is stable, resume the continuous schedule and check the stream after the change.
A short successful test helps you compare settings, but it cannot guarantee a failure-free 24/7 broadcast.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your current setup depends on a computer staying on, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos. Upload the rain recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; the uploaded audio is streamed as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. This changes where the stream runs; it does not repair crackling already present in the source recording.
