How to Fix Angular NG0505: No Hydration Info in Server Response

NG0505 occurs when Angular’s client expects hydration data that the server response lacks. Check that provideClientHydration() is registered for server bootstrapping.

Angular NG0505 means the browser is trying to hydrate the app, but the server response does not contain the serialized application information hydration requires. First, check that provideClientHydration() is included in the providers used to bootstrap the server-rendered app—not just the client.

What NG0505 means

Hydration connects Angular’s client-side application to HTML that was rendered on the server. For that process to work, the server response must include serialized information Angular expects. NG0505 is raised when hydration is enabled in the client but that information is absent from the response. Angular describes the error in its NG0505 error reference.

Hydration is an SSR capability. If the application is not using server-side rendering, first confirm that hydration is appropriate for its setup by consulting Angular’s hydration guide.

Check the server bootstrap providers first

The common configuration problem is registering provideClientHydration() for the browser while omitting it from the providers used to bootstrap the server application. Angular requires the provider in the server bootstrap provider set as well.

  1. Find the configuration that bootstraps the server-rendered application.
  2. Check whether that configuration includes provideClientHydration(). Do not rely on seeing it only in the browser or client configuration.
  3. If it is missing, add it to the server bootstrap providers, following the pattern that matches the project’s standalone or NgModule setup.
  4. Run the SSR application again and inspect its browser-side hydration status.

Where to add the provider

Standalone applications

Angular’s documented standalone pattern registers hydration in the providers passed to bootstrapApplication:

import { provideClientHydration } from '@angular/platform-browser';

bootstrapApplication(App, {
  providers: [provideClientHydration()]
});

Make sure the provider is present in the provider configuration used for server bootstrapping, too. Angular’s hydration guide covers the server-side requirement and setup context.

NgModule applications

For an NgModule-based app, add provideClientHydration() to the root module’s provider list, and confirm the server configuration uses that provider set. Angular’s guide describes both standalone and NgModule setup patterns.

Shared versus separate configurations

  • Shared providers or a shared root module: Check that the provider set shared with the server bootstrap includes provideClientHydration().
  • Separate client and server configurations: Inspect the server providers directly. A client-only registration does not satisfy the server requirement.

Verify the fix and distinguish other hydration errors

In development, Angular recommends checking hydration statistics in the browser console or using Angular DevTools to inspect hydration status. These checks can help confirm whether hydration is running, but NG0505 specifically calls for verifying that the server bootstrap providers include provideClientHydration().

If the provider is correctly configured and NG0505 persists, check whether the server response reaching the browser contains the expected serialized information. Do not treat every hydration failure as NG0505: DOM mismatches, changes to server-rendered HTML, and other hydration conditions have separate error guidance in Angular’s Error Encyclopedia.

What the provider does

provideClientHydration configures hydration functionality and includes default features such as DOM hydration and HTTP response caching/transfer, as documented in the API reference. The targeted NG0505 fix, however, is to ensure the provider is included in the server bootstrap configuration as well as the client setup.
