If installation failed and the phone will not reach the home screen, use the Recovery or System Repair steps for your exact vivo or iQOO model. Back up important data before recovery or firmware work, and do not install a package for a different model or region.
First identify what has stopped
A slow download and a failed installation need different responses. Note your exact vivo or iQOO model, country or region, current software build, and the version you are trying to install. Recovery menus and button combinations can vary by device. The official guidance cited here does not set a universal timeout or download percentage that proves an OriginOS update is frozen.

- Phone still opens normally; download is stalled: start with the network and storage checks below.
- Installation failed, the screen is unresponsive, or the phone will not boot: follow the model-specific Recovery guidance, rather than repeatedly interrupting the installation.
If the download is stalled and the phone still works
- Check the connection. Connect to stable Wi-Fi, or use mobile data if needed. vivo’s phone manual allows either for system updates and recommends Wi-Fi because an update may use substantial data. If possible, try another trusted Wi-Fi network. vivo phone manual and support.
- Check free storage and battery. Make sure the phone has room to download and install the update, and enough charge to complete it. vivo’s firmware instructions call for sufficient battery but do not establish one battery percentage for every model. vivo India firmware tutorial.
- Restart normally if the phone responds. Use its usual restart menu, then open Settings > System update and retry. This is a cautious troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix: the official guidance does not say that restarting clears an update cache or prescribe a cache-reset procedure.
- Let an active installation finish. Do not repeatedly power off a phone that is still showing installation progress. If the screen is genuinely unresponsive or the phone cannot boot, move to Recovery guidance.
If installation failed or the phone will not boot
vivo support documents System Repair in Recovery for devices that cannot boot or have an online-upgrade failure. If your model presents the option, the documented menu route is Install system software > Online update to the latest version > Download and install latest version (retain data). Another listed route is System Repair mode > Enter System Repair mode > Download and install latest version. The menu names and Recovery-entry steps are not universal. A separate vivo customer-service article gives different instructions for foldables, most models released after September 2017, NEX 3/NEX 3S, and older models. It also describes different force-restart combinations for specific device and Funtouch OS groups: Power + Volume Down for more than 10 seconds for tablets and models with Funtouch OS 3.2 or later; the top round button for more than 10 seconds for NEX 3/NEX 3S; and Power for more than 12 seconds for older Funtouch OS models. These categories do not establish the correct combination for every OriginOS phone. If the repair menu is missing or the online repair does not restore normal operation, stop and contact official support or a service center. The China support page also directs users to official firmware guidance or a service center when the System Repair or online-update option is unavailable. vivo China support.
Use manual firmware only when it matches your device
Manual firmware is a model- and region-specific fallback, not a general substitute for Recovery repair. vivo India’s tutorial says to download the firmware for the phone, copy it to the root of internal storage or an SD card without decompressing it, and install through File Manager or Recovery as supported by the device. Back up important data first and ensure sufficient battery. These India instructions do not establish that the package or process applies to another market or model. The tutorial also says phones running Android 8 or later cannot flash a lower version; do not attempt a downgrade without official compatibility confirmation. vivo India firmware tutorial.

Use vivo’s official software and instructions. The phone manual warns that recovery or system updates not performed by vivo may pose security risks and recommends backing up before upgrading. Avoid unofficial ROMs, captured OTA links, generic flashing tools, and bootloader workarounds. vivo phone manual.

Rollouts can be staged and vary by market, so an update listed for one vivo or iQOO model does not show that it should already be available for every device or country. As of October 13, 2026, vivo China’s OriginOS 7 plan lists its first wave beginning October 9, 2026, followed by waves dated October 29, late November 2026, late December 2026, and late January 2027. When to contact vivo or iQOO support
Contact official support or visit an authorized service center if Recovery does not offer the documented repair option, repair fails, the phone repeatedly returns to Recovery, or you cannot confirm the correct firmware for your model and region.
