One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware match“How do I fix a YouTube lofi radio stream that says no data?” Start by opening YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and reading the exact, timestamped error beside the stream-health indicator. “No data” is not defined in the official YouTube guidance cited here as a specific error label, so it does not point to one guaranteed cause. The fault may be in the stream key or server, encoder output, outbound connection, or a media setting YouTube rejects.
1. Find the exact error and when it occurred
In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room for the stream and check the health indicator and its error details. YouTube says the Live Dashboard and Live Control Room check the stream sent to YouTube and show errors with timestamps. A critical error can prevent an event from starting or affect viewers; a moderate error can reduce quality. Use the message and time to guide the next check rather than changing settings at random. YouTube’s live-stream error guide explains the messages.
- Note the exact wording and timestamp.
- Compare that time with encoder logs, any local recording, and network interruptions.
- If YouTube names a specific format or setting, go to that configuration first; otherwise, follow the checks below in order.
2. Confirm the stream key and server
If you use a third-party encoder, verify that it is sending to the intended YouTube stream URL and that the key entered in the encoder is the current key for that stream. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address”: they identify where the encoder sends the feed and let YouTube accept it. If the key was reset or replaced, update it in the encoder before starting again. See Manage live stream settings and YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting steps.
- Check that you selected the correct stream in Live Control Room and copied its current key.
- Check the encoder’s server or stream URL against the destination shown in YouTube’s stream setup.
- Re-enter the key carefully; if YouTube generated a replacement, the old key will not become current again by retrying.
3. Check what the encoder is actually sending
Look at the encoder’s preview, status, error messages, and CPU load while the stream is running. Update the encoder to its latest available version. If its local preview is missing, frozen, silent, or otherwise unhealthy, resolve that problem in the encoder or source before troubleshooting YouTube’s ingest. If the preview and local recording look and sound right but YouTube receives nothing, attention shifts toward the outbound connection or destination settings; a healthy preview alone does not prove the ISP is at fault. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance also suggests trying a different encoder if local checks do not identify the issue.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
4. Test the outbound connection
An encoder can produce a healthy local feed while the connection sending it to YouTube is unstable or insufficient. Test the internet connection and the upload bitrate available during the event, and watch stream health while transmitting. If the connection test points to a problem, check the router and current network, then contact your ISP. YouTube recommends connection testing and ISP troubleshooting in its live-stream troubleshooting guide and discusses bitrate and stream health in its encoder settings guidance.
If tests isolate a weak wireless link, trying a wired Ethernet connection may help; it is not a guaranteed fix and should not replace checking the router, connection, and ISP. Do not buy new equipment based solely on the phrase “no data.”

5. Match the settings to YouTube’s specific error
YouTube lists several possible ingest errors, including unsupported format or codec, incorrect bitrate, audio sample rate, missing or multiple audio/video streams, unsupported audio channel count, a resolution mismatch, and keyframe frequency. Correct the setting named in Live Control Room, then confirm the selected protocol and resolution against YouTube’s encoder settings. Changing bitrate blindly may not fix a key, transport, audio, or format problem.
Audio and keyframes
YouTube’s error/settings guidance recommends 128 Kbps for stereo audio. It also recommends a keyframe every 2 seconds; at 30 fps, that corresponds to one every 60 frames. These are recommendations for the relevant encoder configuration, not guarantees that a stream will work. Check the error details and encoder’s selected frame rate when applying them. See YouTube’s error and settings guidance.

Keep the stream’s media consistent
Check that the encoder is sending the audio and video streams YouTube expects, with supported codecs and channel configuration, and that the output resolution matches the stream setup. If YouTube identifies a mismatch, change that specific setting rather than rebuilding the whole profile. For setup context, see Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
6. Use the symptom to choose the next check
| What you see | Most useful next check |
|---|---|
| Encoder will not start, or YouTube rejects the key/server | Confirm the current stream key and destination URL, especially if the key was reset. |
| Encoder preview or local recording is unhealthy | Fix the source, encoder configuration, software, or local CPU issue before testing YouTube ingest. |
| Local output is healthy but YouTube does not receive it reliably | Test upload connectivity and bitrate; compare network and encoder logs at the dashboard error timestamp. |
| Live Control Room names a format or setting error | Correct the named codec, bitrate, audio, stream count, resolution, or keyframe setting. |
7. If it still says “no data”
- Record the exact Live Control Room wording and timestamp, not only the phrase “no data.”
- Check that the encoder uses the current key and correct YouTube destination.
- Verify local preview, sound, errors, CPU load, and any available local archive.
- Test outbound upload and connection stability while streaming.
- Apply only the media or ingestion change indicated by YouTube; if local checks remain inconclusive, try another encoder as YouTube suggests.
For YouTube encoder streams under 12 hours, YouTube says the stream is automatically archived. That behavior does not diagnose an ingest problem, but a local archive or recording can help establish whether the encoder itself produced usable audio and video. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
