If your soundbar shows no sign of power, start with its power cord and wall outlet, then test the soundbar’s own power button and follow the reset instructions for your exact model. If it turns on manually but not with your TV, troubleshoot the TV-link settings instead: that is a different problem from a soundbar that is completely unresponsive.
First, identify what “won’t turn on” means
Try the power button on the soundbar itself and note what happens:

- No response from any control: Check the power connection and outlet first.
- The soundbar’s button works, but the remote or app does not: The soundbar has power; focus on the control method that failed.
- The soundbar turns on manually but not when the TV starts: Focus on the connection or settings that link the TV and soundbar. Sony treats this as a separate symptom from a soundbar that will not power on at all.
This quick distinction helps avoid treating a remote, app, or TV-link issue as a power failure.
Check the soundbar’s power connection and outlet
- Reseat the power cord at both ends. Check the connection at the soundbar and at the wall outlet or power adapter. A loose or disconnected cord can prevent power-on, according to Sony’s soundbar troubleshooting guidance.
- Inspect the cord. If it is damaged or missing, do not substitute an unverified cord. Check the manual or manufacturer support for a compatible replacement for your specific model.
- Bypass the power strip or surge protector. Temporarily plug the soundbar directly into a working wall outlet. Sony notes that a strip’s protection circuit may have tripped; Bose also recommends bypassing a strip when checking a soundbar that will not turn on.
- Verify the outlet. Test it with another device, such as a lamp, and check whether a wall switch controls it. If the outlet does not work, resolve that issue before assuming the soundbar is faulty.

Test the soundbar button, remote, and app
Press the power button on the soundbar, then try the remote and—if your model supports one—the companion app. Bose specifically recommends comparing these control methods. If one works while another does not, the result points to that control path rather than proving the soundbar itself needs replacement.
If the remote is the only method that fails, check that it is aimed at the soundbar and that its batteries are usable. If the app is the only method that fails, try the soundbar’s physical button while you investigate the app or connection. These checks isolate the failing control without requiring a factory reset.

Try a model-appropriate power reset
A power reset means disconnecting the soundbar from power temporarily and reconnecting it. The required wait is not universal, so use the instructions for your model rather than applying another brand’s timing.

- Bose Soundbar 550: Bose’s product-specific basic reset calls for disconnecting power for 30 seconds, then allowing about 30 seconds after reconnection for the soundbar to reboot.

Use a factory reset only when the model’s instructions call for it
A factory reset is not the same as unplugging the soundbar briefly. It may erase saved settings or configuration, and button combinations differ by product. Bose distinguishes a basic reset intended to address minor processor errors from restoring factory settings. LG likewise lists different reset procedures for particular soundbar models.
Look up the exact model number and use its official instructions before attempting a factory reset. Do not try a button combination found for a different model, and do not assume a factory reset will fix a soundbar that shows no sign of receiving power. If it turns on manually but not with the TV
When the soundbar powers on from its own button but does not start with the television, investigate the TV-to-soundbar control link rather than repeating power checks. The relevant settings depend on the TV, soundbar, and how they are connected; there is no single menu path that applies to every combination.

Interpret status lights using your model’s manual
Do not diagnose a fault from an LED color alone. Light colors and blink patterns vary by soundbar model. LG’s examples include a red light for standby and a red blink during power-on, but LG also cautions that indicator colors differ across models. Check your own soundbar’s status-light chart in its manual or manufacturer support page. See LG’s status-light examples.
When to contact support or arrange repair
If the outlet works, the cord is firmly connected, the soundbar has been tested directly from the wall rather than through a power strip, and the correct power-reset procedure has not helped, contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair service. Sony recommends professional service when its troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem.
Do not open the soundbar or probe internal power components. If a cord needs replacement, confirm compatibility with the exact model and its electrical requirements through the manufacturer or manual; a cord that fits physically is not automatically suitable.
