Wait for the page’s real completion signal—not just navigation—to capture it after the spinner disappears. For a single-page app, that usually means waiting for the expected content to appear or the loading indicator to become hidden. Network-idle and fixed delays can help in some cases, but neither proves that the page is ready.
Why a screenshot can capture a spinner
Browser navigation and application rendering are separate events. A browser can finish loading the document while JavaScript is still fetching data, hydrating the page, drawing a chart, loading an iframe, or waiting on a third-party service. If the screenshot job runs between those stages, it records the spinner.

The fix is to make capture wait for a condition that represents success on the specific page. Since the screenshot API provider and request format vary, use its documentation to find the equivalent wait option; do not assume a parameter name from another service will work.

Identify what the spinner is waiting for
Inspect the page in the same browser context and viewport as the screenshot job. Determine whether the spinner represents initial document loading, a client-side request, hydration, a chart or widget, an iframe, or a third-party service. Compare the page’s network activity with what is visible. This helps distinguish a slow-but-working page from an error, missing authentication, or a consent screen.

Wait for a page-specific ready condition
Prefer a stable signal tied to the content you need: the result becomes visible, the spinner becomes hidden or is removed, or an application readiness flag becomes true. If possible, wait for both the expected result and the spinner to disappear. A generic condition such as the presence of body can resolve long before useful content is rendered.

Replace the sample selectors with selectors that describe completion on the target page. This illustrates the sequence; check the API reference for the exact options supported by your installed Playwright version.

Choose the right wait strategy

Configure waits at a hosted screenshot API
If the API accepts a URL instead of giving you access to a live browser page, check its documentation for a wait-for-selector, wait-for-function, script or action sequence, network-idle option, or post-navigation delay. Confirm that the wait occurs before capture and that its timeout can accommodate the page. The right parameter names and defaults depend on the provider; the title alone does not establish them.

Troubleshoot a wait that times out
- Check the selector: Confirm it matches the rendered page and describes the desired result, not just an element that appears during loading.
- Check frame and shadow boundaries: The target content may live in an iframe or shadow root, so a page-level selector may not reach it.
- Check authentication and consent: Missing cookies, an expired session, or a consent screen can prevent the expected content from appearing.
- Check the page outcome: The site may have returned an error or blocked the request rather than remaining in a normal loading state.
- Inspect an intermediate result: If the service allows it, capture an earlier screenshot or inspect page text and network responses to see which stage failed.
- Adjust the timeout only after checking the condition: A longer timeout helps only if the page is progressing toward the expected state. It will not fix an invalid selector or a page that never receives its data.
