If your Nespresso Vertuo POP+ head will not open or close, first check the handle position and do not force the mechanism. Nespresso’s guidance covers operating checks and specific capsule obstructions, but it does not establish a safe do-it-yourself fix for a jammed or failed head. Try only the steps below that match what you can see; stop and contact Nespresso if the head remains stuck.
Check the handle and machine before troubleshooting
The handle must be unlocked before opening the head. For brewing, the head should be closed and the handle properly locked. Confirm the water tank is filled and, if you are trying to brew, that a fresh, undamaged capsule is positioned correctly. Only try these capsule steps if the head can be opened safely. Nespresso distinguishes between a capsule that is fully visible and tilted above the brewing unit and one that is not fully visible. Its stuck-capsule FAQ warns against putting fingers or tools into the brewing unit to dislodge a capsule.

If the capsule does not release through the applicable gentle step, stop and contact Nespresso. The FAQ’s instruction is specific to capsule obstruction; it is not a repair procedure for a head that remains mechanically stuck.
Use the 10-second power retry only for the specified alert
A power interruption is not a general fix for a head that will not open or close. The Vertuo Pop troubleshooting excerpt links unplugging for 10 seconds to a continuing alert pattern of two blinks and one pause. If that exact pattern is present, follow this sequence:

- Unlock and open the head, then check or replace the capsule.
- Disconnect the machine from power and wait 10 seconds before reconnecting it.
- Close the head, turn the machine on, and retry brewing.

When to stop and contact Nespresso
Contact Nespresso if the head remains stuck, a capsule cannot be released using the applicable guidance, or the safe operating checks do not resolve the problem. Do not escalate to force, prying, or an unsupported teardown. The US assistance page lists Vertuo technical support and a one-year Vertuo Pop+ warranty; confirm the support route and warranty terms for your country and purchase, since these can vary.
