A completely drained Pixel may show no sign of life for up to 25 minutes after you plug it in, so give it time on a known-working charger before concluding that it has failed.
Identify what the Pixel is doing
Different symptoms point to different checks. Note whether the phone is fully unresponsive, shows a charging icon but gains little charge, charges only when the cable is held at an angle, charges wirelessly but not by cable, or charges normally but drains unusually fast.

- No display, vibration, or charging icon: Start with a known-working outlet, cable, and adapter, then leave the phone connected. Google says a completely drained Pixel that has not been turned on for a long time may show no charging icon, vibration, or display response for up to 25 minutes after it is plugged in. This is a possible wait, not a guarantee that a defective phone will recover. See Google’s charging and startup troubleshooting steps.
- Charging slowly or intermittently: Check the power source, connections, port, temperature, and—if charging wirelessly—alignment and compatibility.
- Battery percentage falls quickly: Check app and system usage, recent setup or updates, and temperature rather than assuming the charger is at fault.
Check the outlet, cable, and adapter
- Plug the adapter directly into a working wall outlet. Make sure the cable is seated firmly at both the adapter and phone.
- If practical, test the cable and adapter with another device. Then try a known-working USB-C cable and adapter with the Pixel, changing one component at a time so you can identify what makes a difference.
- If the phone displays “Check charging accessory,” treat the cable or adapter as a suspect: Google says that warning can indicate a broken or unsupported accessory and may result in very slow or no charging.
- Check the charging guidance for your exact Pixel model before buying an adapter. Google recommends a USB-C PPS adapter rated at 30 W or more, or a USB-C PD adapter rated at 15 W or more, for the best battery experience and charging speeds, but supported charging speeds vary by phone. Those adapter ratings are guidance, not a promise that every Pixel will draw that power or charge at the same rate.

For wired charging
Remove the case and any accessory that could keep the plug from seating fully. Look into the USB-C port for visible lint or dust. Do not push metal tools into the port or scrape it forcefully; if debris is not easy to remove safely, seek support rather than risk damaging the connector. If the phone charges only when the cable is angled, stop flexing the connection and try another cable. A persistent angle-dependent connection may need inspection.

For wireless charging
First confirm that your exact Pixel supports wireless charging and that the charger is compatible. Center the phone on the charging pad, remove magnetic or metallic accessories such as ring holders, and take off a case if it interferes. Try wired charging as a comparison: if wired charging works but the wireless setup does not, focus on the pad, compatibility, placement, and accessories.
Compatibility depends on both phone and charger generation. Google’s current guidance says wireless charging is available on Pixel 3 and later with listed exceptions; Pixel 10 and later, except Pixel 10a, support Qi2. Pixel 10 and later do not charge wirelessly with first- or second-generation Pixel Stand models. Because compatibility is model-specific, check Google’s current charging guidance for the exact phone and charger rather than relying on a general “Pixel-compatible” label.

Rule out heat and expected slow charging
A Pixel may slow or pause charging when it gets too warm, including during wireless charging. Move it out of direct sun and away from other heat sources, remove a case that traps heat, turn the screen off, and let the phone cool in a shaded, ventilated place. Avoid charging it under bedding or in direct sunlight. Google says wireless charging can resume after the phone cools.
Some slow charging is expected in specific circumstances. With Adaptive Charging active, charging may slow above 80%. Background apps and weak wireless or cellular coverage can also contribute to apparent slow wireless charging. See Google’s slow wireless charging guidance and charging help for further checks.

Find what is draining the battery
- Open Settings > Battery > Battery usage. Review the apps and services using power, paying particular attention to high background use or an app whose use is unexpectedly high.
- For an app with high background or total use, review its background-usage settings and change them if appropriate. Google’s battery-drain guidance also recommends keeping Adaptive Battery and battery optimization enabled.
- Restart the phone and install available Android and app updates. If the drain began after setup, a factory reset, or an update, allow time for optimization before treating the change as a persistent fault.
- For practical ways to reduce use, lower screen brightness, consider Dark theme, and turn off hotspot or tethering when you are not using it.
Battery diagnostics are available on Pixel 6 and later, according to Google’s battery-drain guidance. Google says optimization after a new-device setup or factory reset can take a few weeks to take full effect. Somewhat higher drain for a few days after a software update can also occur while the phone optimizes; if unusually high drain continues after a few days, seek help. These are approximate adjustment periods, not a reason to ignore a phone that is overheating or behaving abnormally.

When to contact support or arrange repair
Contact Google support or an eligible repair provider if the Pixel remains unresponsive after you have checked the outlet and accessories and allowed the initial charging wait, or if abnormal battery drain continues after you have reviewed usage, restarted, and updated the phone. Google’s Pixel help page describes support options.

A factory reset is a late software troubleshooting step, not a fix for a faulty cable, port, or battery. Back up your data before resetting: Google warns that a factory data reset removes local data and apps. Do not make opening the phone or replacing its battery a routine first step.
