Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If a Fios Wi-Fi extender keeps disconnecting, first check whether the router still has internet and whether the extender is actually connected to it. Then use the extender’s exact model and status light to check placement and backhaul before rebooting. Verizon sells several extender generations, and their pairing, wiring, and reset instructions are not interchangeable.
Identify the equipment before changing settings
Find the model number on the extender’s label and identify the router model too. This matters because an E3200, CE1000A, WCB6200Q, and WCB3000N can have different compatibility and setup requirements. Use the guide for your specific extender rather than assuming every “Fios extender” pairs or resets the same way.

Check whether the problem is the router, extender, or one device
Confirm the router has internet
Test internet access on a device connected directly to the router, or use the router’s own status indicators and Verizon’s service checks. If the router itself has no internet, troubleshoot that connection first; restarting or moving an extender will not repair an upstream outage.
Check the extender and its upstream connection
Make sure the extender has power and look at its status indicator to see whether it reports a connection to the router. For an E3200, inspect the router’s WAN coax or Ethernet cable at both ends. Verizon’s E3200 troubleshooting guide starts with the router connection and extender status.

See whether other devices disconnect too
If only one phone or computer drops, move it near the extender and test another device there. On the affected device, confirm Wi-Fi is enabled and that it has the correct network name (SSID) and password saved; toggle Wi-Fi off and on, then restart the device. If another device stays connected, the first device’s saved network settings or software are more likely to be involved than the extender itself.
Use the E3200 status light to improve placement
These light meanings and placement directions apply to the E3200; check your model’s guide if you have another extender. Verizon recommends placing the E3200 upright between the router and the area with weak coverage. Its FAQ says a fast-blinking yellow light means the extender is too close to the gateway, while a slow-blinking yellow light means it is too far away. Move it accordingly and allow time for the indicator to update; finding a useful location may take several attempts.

- Avoid placing it near large metal objects, moisture, dust, or temperature extremes.
- Use the Wi-Fi Analyzer in My Verizon, if available, to help assess coverage. Verizon’s E3200 FAQ and support page includes the indicator and placement guidance.
Check that the extender and router support the same backhaul
Backhaul is the connection between the extender and router. Depending on the models, it may be wired through coax or Ethernet, or wireless. A weak or unsupported backhaul can make the extender appear to be dropping even when a client device is close to it.
| Extender or setup | Router compatibility and backhaul |
|---|---|
| E3200 | Verizon lists the Fios Router G3100 and Verizon Router CR1000A/B as compatible. The E3200 can use wired coax or Ethernet; with CR1000A/B, Verizon specifies a wired connection. Its listed limit of up to 1 Gbps for connected clients is a product specification, not a guarantee of internet speed. Verizon E3200 support |
| WCB6200Q and WCB3000N | These legacy extenders require wired coax or Ethernet backhaul and do not communicate wirelessly with the router. Older router configurations may also need manual Wi-Fi name setup. Verizon network extender support |
| Non-Verizon extender with a Fios router | It may work, but Verizon says manual setup may be required. Verify both devices’ documentation rather than assuming Verizon pairing steps apply. Verizon network extender support |
The E3200 guide describes wireless WPS pairing as well as wired coax or Ethernet setup, but the supported option depends on the router. Do not apply E3200 pairing instructions to a different model without checking that model’s guide. For advanced settings, Verizon’s E3200 Wi-Fi Extender User Guide (2023) cautions: “The advanced settings should only be configured by experienced network technicians to avoid adversely affecting the operation of your Wi-Fi Extender and your local network.”
If an E3200’s network name does not match the gateway
This is a specific symptom, not a general fix for repeated disconnections: Verizon says to unplug and reconnect the E3200, wait five minutes, and consult its user guide for manual pairing if the network name still does not match. See the E3200 support page.
Reboot before trying a factory reset
A reboot restarts the extender without intentionally erasing its saved configuration. For the E3200, Verizon’s 2023 guide gives these steps:
Rank #4
- DEAD ZONES, ELIMINATED: Bring WiFi 6 to the rooms your router cannot reach - bedrooms, garage, basement, and backyard - with up to 1,500 sq. ft. of added coverage for up to 20 devices, from any wall outlet
- ONE WIFI NAME ACROSS YOUR HOME: Smart Roaming keeps your existing network name and moves each device to the strongest signal automatically, so there is no manual switching and no dropped calls or streams as you move room to room
- EASY SET UP: Use the NETGEAR Nighthawk app for guided setup, or press WPS on your router and the extender
- STREAM AND GAME ON EVERY DEVICE: Let more devices stream, game, and video call at once with up to 1.8 Gbps (AX1800) across two bands with 4 streams, plus a Gigabit Ethernet port. Real-world speeds vary depending on connected devices and internet plan
- WORKS WITH THE ROUTER YOU ALREADY HAVE: Connects to any router or gateway from Xfinity, Spectrum, AT&T, Cox, or Verizon and rebroadcasts its signal. It extends your router, it does not replace it, with no closed ecosystem to lock you in
- Press the red button on the rear of the E3200 for 2–4 seconds to start a reboot.
- Wait 3–5 minutes, then check again when the status light is solid white.
- If it still drops, unplug the extender for two minutes. Power-cycle the affected client device during that wait.
- Reconnect the extender’s power, wait another 3–5 minutes, and test the connection again.
These timings and button instructions are for the E3200, not a universal procedure for every Verizon extender. Verizon’s E3200 guide distinguishes this short reboot from a factory reset.

A factory reset erases saved extender settings and may require connected devices to reconnect or the extender to be paired again. Do it only after less disruptive checks fail and you have the instructions for the exact model. Verizon’s E3200 guide specifies holding its reset button for at least 10 seconds; that duration should not be transferred to another extender. Verizon’s CE1000A instructions describe a separate, model-specific reset that deletes configuration and requires clients to reconnect. Use the E3200 guide or the CE1000A support page as appropriate.

When to use Verizon’s health checks or support
My Verizon’s Wi-Fi Analyzer can help assess signal coverage, and Verizon offers a Wi-Fi Health Check through My Verizon or customer service. If the router has internet, placement and model compatibility check out, and the extender still loses its connection after a reboot, contact Verizon support with both model numbers and the extender’s light pattern. Equipment eligibility, ownership, charges, and return obligations depend on the customer’s plan and service terms; they are not universal.
