Start by checking that your PC meets the game’s requirements and that 007 First Light is updated. Then restart, update Windows and your graphics driver, verify the game files, and temporarily disable overlays. The next step depends on the symptom: lower demanding settings for consistently low FPS, check SSD and shader-cache issues for loading hitches, and test at stock hardware settings if the game crashes. These steps narrow down likely causes; none guarantees a fix for every PC.
First identify when the problem happens
Low average FPS, uneven frame pacing, a hitch while loading an area, a crash on launch, and a crash after a long session can have different causes. Before changing settings, note the pattern and record your PC’s CPU, GPU, RAM, Windows version, resolution, graphics preset, storefront, and whether Path Tracing is enabled. Also check whether the game is installed on an SSD and how much free space remains.

Compare your system with the current official PC requirements. The requirements page specifies 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, an SSD, and at least 80 GB of storage; it was updated May 15, 2026. IO Interactive’s January 6, 2026 PC announcement published a minimum target of 1080p/30 FPS and a recommended target of 1080p/60 FPS, with different hardware configurations for each. Those are the publisher’s targets, not independent benchmark results. Near the minimum tier, Player Support advises starting at 1080p with Low settings. Check the current requirements page because specifications can change.

Try the common, low-risk fixes first
- Restart the PC. This clears temporary states and gives updates a clean start.
- Update Windows. Install available updates, then restart.
- Update the graphics driver. Get the current driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel for your GPU, then restart.
- Verify or repair the game files. Use the repair or verification option in the Steam, Epic Games Store, or Xbox app client where you own the game.
- Disable overlays and capture tools temporarily. Test with Steam Overlay, Discord Overlay, Xbox Game Bar, and GPU recording or performance overlays turned off.
- If the game crashes, return hardware settings to stock. Temporarily disable CPU or GPU overclocks and RAM XMP or EXPO, then retest.
These are the first steps in 007 First Light Player Support’s troubleshooting guide, updated June 16, 2026.

Fix consistently low FPS
Change one setting at a time and retest in the same location. Lower the resolution first; if performance is still poor, reduce shadows, reflections, volumetrics, and view distance. Close demanding background applications such as browsers, streaming software, and capture tools. On a laptop, connect the power adapter and set Windows power mode to Best performance.
If performance drops only after roughly 10–30 minutes, treat heat or instability as diagnostic possibilities rather than assuming a graphics-setting problem. Check temperatures and signs of throttling, improve airflow if needed, and test again with overclocks disabled. Support identifies these checks as possibilities; they do not establish the cause on an individual PC.
Reduce stuttering and loading hitches
When entering areas or loading
Confirm the game is installed on an SSD and that the drive has free space. The game’s official requirements list an SSD as required, and Player Support specifically recommends checking SSD installation and available space when hitches occur during loading or when entering areas. If your PC lacks solid-state storage, a compatible SSD may address that storage-related bottleneck; check the computer’s form factor and interface before buying. It will not resolve unrelated GPU, driver, or game defects.

Clear the DirectX shader cache
- Open Windows Disk Cleanup.
- Select the Windows drive, if prompted.
- Select DirectX Shader Cache in the files-to-delete list and run cleanup.
- Restart the PC and test the game again.
Use the named Windows cleanup option rather than deleting arbitrary game or driver folders.
When hitches come with texture pop-in
Texture pop-in alongside heavy hitching can point to possible VRAM pressure. Lower resolution and texture-heavy settings, then compare the same scene. This is a troubleshooting clue, not a definitive diagnosis.
Fix crashes or a game that will not launch
For launch failures
Complete the common fixes above first. If the game still will not start, check whether security software or permissions are blocking it, remove custom launch arguments temporarily, and use a clean boot to look for conflicts with background software. Reinstalling is a last resort in Player Support’s launch troubleshooting guidance.

For crashes during play
Lower demanding graphics settings and check for temperature or throttling problems. If crashes happen after a long session, retest at stock clocks and check cooling and airflow. For more advanced troubleshooting, Player Support also suggests setting the Windows page file to System managed, reviewing Event Viewer around the crash time, and performing a clean graphics-driver reinstall. BIOS updates are an advanced option: follow the motherboard maker’s instructions and proceed only if you are comfortable with the process.

Do not apply Path Tracing-specific advice unless you use that mode. IO Interactive’s September 25, 2026 Update 1.2.2 notes address reported issues after the Path Tracing update, including severe FPS drops in specific scenes and heavy stuttering when starting online Escalations with Path Tracing enabled. The notes say the update fixed drops to 5–10 FPS in the Gala area and during a cutscene camera zoom on RTX 5070 systems using Path Tracing, as well as the Escalation stuttering issue. These are described fixes for specific scenarios, not general performance benchmarks.
If you use an RTX 50-series card with Path Tracing, the same official Steam announcement recommends restoring default graphics settings and choosing a mode and resolution by GPU: Medium at 1080p for RTX 5070, Medium at 1440p for RTX 5080, and High at up to 4K for RTX 5090. It also recommends NVIDIA DLSS Super Resolution on Auto and Multi Frame Generation, with Dynamic Multi Frame Generation as an alternative. IO Interactive’s approximate 60 FPS expectations at recommended settings vary by mission and checkpoint; its claim that adding 2x DLSS Frame Generation with DLSS Super Resolution on Auto should keep play consistently above 60 FPS is a publisher expectation for those settings, not an independently verified result or guarantee.
