How to invert vertical look
- Open How to Fish‘s settings and find the X- and Y-axis inversion controls for looking around.
- Enable Y inversion to reverse vertical look.
- Leave X inversion unchanged unless you also want to reverse horizontal look.
- Try the setting in a safe situation and adjust the relevant axis if the result is not what you want.
Dazed Games’ Patch 1.0.5 announcement says, “Added option to invert axis on x and y for looking around.” The note confirms separate X and Y options, but does not give a precise menu route or the controls’ exact on-screen labels. Read the Patch 1.0.5 announcement.

What X and Y inversion change

These are look-direction controls. They are separate from aiming or attack behavior.
Axis inversion is different from aim and attack options
Patch 1.0.11 added toggle aiming, toggle sprinting, and hold-to-attack options, according to the official Steam announcement archive. Those settings change how actions are activated; they do not reverse camera movement.

Is a controller workaround necessary?
No workaround is established as necessary: the in-game Y-axis option was announced in Patch 1.0.5. A Steam discussion opened on August 21, 2026—one day before that patch announcement—contains a player report that Steam controller settings worked, alongside a reply noting that the route did not help mouse users. The official archive includes updates through Patch 1.1.3, dated September 29, 2026. The later reviewed notes do not explicitly restate the inversion option or specify where it appears in the current settings menus.
