The most reliable documented route follows the required island progression—Lighthouse, Forest, Desert, Rocks, then Volcano—and includes the final quest hand-in and RHIB activation. Use a separate save, skip optional activities, and keep each boss’s progression item until its hand-in is confirmed. Community guides agree on this route, but the game’s exact timer start, pause behavior, and completion frame are not documented in the sources reviewed.
Before starting: set up a dedicated attempt
- Use a separate, fresh save. This keeps an ordinary playthrough from becoming a timed run and gives you a clean route to repeat.
- Learn the route first. Plan the required objectives and choose purchases you can execute reliably. Community guides differ on optional upgrades and weapon order; no single shopping list is established as mandatory.
- Leave side activities for later. Collection goals, optional achievements, gambling, exploration, and unnecessary farming take time away from the story route.
- Protect quest-critical items. Do not sell or lose a distinctive boss drop before its associated hand-in updates progression.
- Consider difficulty carefully. A community guide reports that Easy mode in Patch 1.0.9 reduced creature health by 25% and creature damage by 50%. That is community-reported, version-specific behavior; the guides do not establish that Bean is officially guaranteed to count on Easy.
Because the timer’s internal rules are unclear, use a continuous external clock as a conservative measure. Do not assume loading or pauses are excluded from the game’s timer.

Use the quest tracker and unlocked progression: Lighthouse → Forest → Desert → Rocks → Volcano. Older launch-week advice about going directly to locked islands is obsolete for this route: community guides report that Patch 1.0.5 fixed that behavior.

1. Lighthouse: secure the Boat Keys
Earn enough for the opening equipment and Beer. Give the full Beer to the Lighthouse Keeper, but retain the Empty Beer Can for the Spider Crab encounter. Defeat the Crab, keep its progression drop, and complete the related hand-in to obtain the Boat Keys. One fan guide recommends buying the $10 Radar before sailing; another route guide emphasizes checking that the hand-in, keys, and Radar are in place before leaving. Treat the purchase advice as a community route option, not a universal requirement.

2. Forest: complete the leech and Piranha objectives
Collect three Leeches and complete the Modified Leech objective to trigger the Giant Piranha. Defeat it, retain its Skeleton, and complete the required hand-in before sailing onward. Some community routes recommend a shotgun; one describes an engine purchase as optional. Choose a fight plan you can carry out without losing time to avoidable retries.
3. Desert: use the Carrot to trigger the Pufferfish
Catch an endangered fish accepted by the Tourist, receive the Carrot, and use it to trigger the Pufferfish encounter. Keep the resulting progression remnant and finish the hand-in that opens the next route. A fan guide suggests skipping the grill if your health is sufficient; cooking or healing is a conditional detour, not a required step established by the route sources.

4. Rocks: use the Tuna and protect the Bird’s Head
Use the Tuna to trigger the Terrorizing Bird, also called the Albatross in community material. Defeat it, keep its Head, and make the progression hand-in. Guides differ on optional upgrades and weapon paths, so prioritize a repeatable fight strategy over copying a particular purchase sequence.

Complete the remaining Scientist and catch objective described by the route, then use the Bowhead Whale to trigger the Mutated Bowhead encounter. Defeat it and retain the final Fin or tail item for its required hand-in. After receiving the RHIB keys, activate the RHIB. A boss kill alone is not the conservative finish state.

Use checkpoints as planning aids, not fail conditions
A September 2026 Gamers.Wiki community guide suggests these approximate landmarks:

Aiming to activate the ending before the hour leaves more execution margin than relying on a last-second boss defeat.

The one-hour requirement and five-island progression are described consistently across community guides published or checked in August and September 2026. The speedrun field guide reports checking Steam achievement text and patch notes against version 1.0.11 on September 4, 2026; that is the latest version explicitly checked in the available route material, not a guarantee about later builds. Timer mechanics, official Easy-mode eligibility, and one universally optimal weapon or purchase order are not established by those sources. If the game has updated since then, verify the current build and quest behavior before relying on version-specific details.
