How to Find, Run, and Manage Plugins in Figma

Learn where to find Figma plugins, how to open and run one in a file, how saving and Dev Mode pinning work, and what to check when access is blocked.

Find plugins in Figma Community or from the editor, then open one in a file and choose Run. In Figma, “installing” usually means opening or running a plugin; saving it to your account is the documented way to make it easier to reuse. Whether you can run it depends on your editor surface, seat, file permissions, and any organization approval rules.

How to find a plugin in Figma

Search Figma Community

Go to Figma Community or open Community from the file browser. Search by plugin name or by the task you want to accomplish, then filter the results to Plugins. Available source or category filters can help narrow the list.

Open a listing before deciding whether to use it. The page may include a description, creator contact, comments, usage indicators, and security or network-access details. Information varies by listing.

Find plugins inside an editor

Where plugins appear depends on the Figma product surface:

  • Figma Design: Open a design file, select Tools in the left navigation, filter by Plugin, then select a recent or suggested plugin or search Community.
  • Dev Mode: Find plugins in the right-sidebar Plugins panel.
  • FigJam: Use recent plugin icons or the More menu.
  • Figma Slides: Open the Actions menu and select the Plugins tab.
  • Figma Buzz: Use the left-panel Plugins tab; Plugins may also appear in the right-click menu for an asset.

How to install or run a Figma plugin

Figma’s documented workflow is to open a plugin in a file and run it—not to install a conventional desktop app. In Figma Design, open the plugin details and choose Run. You must run plugins manually; only one plugin can run at a time, and plugins cannot work in the background.

Open a plugin from Community

  1. Open the plugin’s Community listing and choose Open in. For a paid plugin, choose Buy instead.
  2. Select a recent file or create a new one if Figma offers that option, then follow any prompts to choose a location.
  3. In Figma Design, open the plugin details and select Run.

Some listings use a playground file and may not offer the option to create a new file. A paid plugin labeled In-app purchases may offer a time- or usage-based trial, but a trial is not guaranteed for every paid plugin.

Save and manage plugins

Save plugins you use often so they are easier to find when moving between files. Figma links saved plugins to your account. Recent and saved lists may be available depending on the editor surface.

Dev Mode also lets you keep a plugin at the top of the sidebar: open the plugin’s More menu and choose Pin to top. To reverse that, choose Unpin from top.

Can you uninstall or remove a plugin?

Figma’s current end-user usage guidance documents saving and pinning, but not a universal control for removing a plugin from an account. If a plugin is missing or no longer convenient to access, check the relevant editor’s recent or saved list and your organization’s plugin settings.

Plugin creators have separate controls to publish updates, unpublish a Community plugin, or remove an in-development plugin. Unpublishing removes the plugin from Community and affects users who installed it; deleting an in-development plugin cannot be undone. These are creator-maintenance actions, not an end-user uninstall workflow.

Check whether your seat and file allow plugins

Figma’s published access table distinguishes editor surfaces and seat types. View is unavailable for plugins in every surface listed below. The table can change as Figma updates plans and entitlements, so check the current Figma Help Center guidance if your access differs.

Figma Buzz Starter, Full, and Dev

Figma says any Starter-plan user or a user with a paid seat on an Organization or Enterprise plan can access the plugin feature, but the supported surfaces depend on the seat and plan. You also need can edit access to the file to run a plugin. Organization restrictions may still apply.

Why you may not be able to use a plugin

Your editor surface or seat does not support it

Check the access table above for the product surface and seat you are using. A plugin feature being available in one Figma editor does not mean it is available in every other surface.

You do not have edit access

Confirm that you can edit the file. Figma says users with can edit access can run plugins, subject to applicable organization restrictions.

Your organization requires approval

Organization and Enterprise admins can require members to use approved plugins and can decide whether members may request approval. On Organization plans, approval applies organization-wide; Enterprise admins can scope approvals by workspace and review plugin usage. The approval setting described by Figma does not include private plugins published by people in the organization. An admin can remove an approved plugin, which immediately blocks its use in files.

If a plugin is blocked or missing, ask your organization admin whether approval is required and whether requests are enabled. Where available, submit a request through the organization’s approval process.

The plugin itself may need developer support

Figma says it does not support third-party plugins. For plugin-specific problems, use the support contact on the plugin’s Community listing.

Review plugin security before running it

Figma warns: “Plugins run third-party code and can access user and file information for their plugin actions.” Treat a plugin as third-party software, especially in a work account, and inspect the listing before you run it.

Some listings show a reviewed Data security info available label when a developer’s voluntary disclosure has been reviewed and accepted. Not every plugin has this disclosure. Listings may also show network access information:

  • Unknown: The plugin manifest does not define network access; the plugin can access any domain.
  • Unrestricted: The plugin can access any domain.
  • Restricted: The listing specifies the permitted domains.
  • No network access: The plugin does not have network access.

These labels describe disclosed or configured access, not a guarantee that a plugin is safe for every file or account. Consider whether the plugin’s purpose justifies the access shown before running it.
