Where to look for a show right now
Start with the app that currently carries the series or movie. Until the companies announce a transition, treat Paramount+ and HBO Max as separate services with separate libraries. A planned future unification does not mean the catalogs have already been combined, that a show has moved, or that one app can search both libraries. For now, search each service on its own.

If you subscribe to both, keep using both apps. HBO Max’s transition FAQ says subscribers can continue as before and do not need to take immediate action. The FAQ also says there are no immediate changes to the apps, libraries, subscriptions, pricing, or access. The separate discovery+ company update FAQ likewise says there are no immediate changes to discovery+ or Paramount+ and that existing subscribers need take no action right now.

The available information does not establish specific Paramount+ menu labels or a title-by-title catalog map, so use the app’s own search and browsing options rather than relying on an assumed navigation path. If you are unsure which service currently carries a title, check both apps; the merger announcement does not provide a list of titles or a way to search across them.
How to check HBO Max for a title
- Open HBO Max. Use the app or website you already use to watch the service. No new app or account-migration step has been announced.
- Search by title. Enter the show or movie name in Search. This is the direct way to check whether a particular title is available in the HBO Max library.
- Browse by category or brand. If you are looking for programming from HBO or another featured brand, look under Categories or in Brand Spotlight rows. The placement and labels may differ by device.
- Check Paramount+ separately if you do not find it. A show’s association with a studio or network does not by itself establish which app currently carries it. Search in the service where you expect it to stream, and verify availability in that app.
HBO Max’s official discovery guidance explains its search and browsing options at HBO Max: Find shows and movies. It describes ways to discover HBO series and movies, Max Originals, and selected programming from other brands. Those brand categories are useful starting points, not a promise that every title from a listed brand is available.
Do not treat a search result in one service as proof that the same show is included in the other. The official information available as of October 13 does not provide a combined search tool or title-by-title map. If a title is missing from the first app you check, try the other app rather than assuming the merger has made it available there.

What the merger announcement changes—and what it does not
Skydance announced on October 6, 2026, that its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery had closed. The company said its direct-to-consumer streaming products “will unify into a single service over time.” That statement sets an intended direction, not a launch schedule or instructions for viewers. The announcement does not give a new service name, launch date, combined price, plan tiers, account-migration process, or title-by-title catalog plan. For current subscribers, the more immediate guidance is that nothing needs to change today. HBO Max’s transition FAQ says there are no immediate changes to the apps, content libraries, subscriptions, pricing, or access, and subscribers can continue using each service as before. It says the FAQ will be updated as details become available. See the HBO Max transition FAQ before changing a subscription or expecting a title to move.
The discovery+ company update FAQ makes a similar point about discovery+ and Paramount+: no immediate changes apply, existing subscribers do not need to take action right now, and no new bundle options have been announced. That is useful context for Paramount+ customers, but it does not supply a schedule for a future change or instructions for migrating accounts. Associated Press reported on October 6 that no timeline had been given and quoted Skydance CEO David Ellison saying, “Our viewpoint is, HBO should stay HBO.” That is Ellison’s stated view, not a finalized promise about the future name, app design, or product. The distinction matters: the company has announced an eventual unification, but consumer-facing details remain unannounced. As of October 7, AP reported that the services looked unchanged immediately after the acquisition closed.

The announced direction is a future unified streaming service; the practical details viewers need to plan around are still open. The table separates the current instructions from details that have not been announced. “Not announced” does not mean a specific outcome is guaranteed; it means the cited company guidance has not yet supplied that information.

These unanswered questions are the ones to revisit when the companies publish more information: whether viewers will use one app or multiple apps; which titles will be available and whether any will move; what the service will cost and what plan tiers will exist; and whether subscribers will need to change accounts, billing, or devices. None of those future arrangements should be treated as settled based on the phrase “unify into a single service over time.”
A bundle is not necessarily a single app
Do not assume that a subscription bundle means all included shows appear in one interface. HBO Max’s current help page for the Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max bundle says customers get access to three separate apps, each with its own library. A bundle can group access or billing without combining every show into one catalog or search screen.
That example is a distinction, not a preview of how the future Paramount+ and HBO Max service will work. The available official transition guidance does not announce a new Paramount+/HBO Max bundle. The discovery+ company update FAQ also says no new bundle options have been announced. The current Disney+, Hulu, and HBO Max bundle should not be mistaken for evidence that a Paramount+ and HBO Max offer is available.

When to check for updates
If you are deciding whether to cancel, change billing, or wait for a show to appear in another app, check the official transition FAQs first. HBO Max says its FAQ will be updated as details become available; the discovery+ FAQ likewise describes no immediate changes and no current new bundle announcement. An acquisition closing does not itself tell subscribers when a specific title will move or whether it will be included in a future service. Until the companies publish those details, use the existing apps and verify availability in each library.
Associated Press also reported on October 7, 2026, that the services looked unchanged immediately after the acquisition closed and that no timeline had been given. Associated Press, October 7, 2026. There is no need to buy a streaming device or change your setup just to find shows during this interim period. The current guidance is to continue using the existing services, and the available guidance does not establish that a new device, remote, or other product is required. If you already have access to the relevant service, search or browse within its app.
