To check your processor’s core count in Windows 11, open Task Manager > Performance > CPU and read the value beside Cores. The nearby Logical processors value is a different count.
Find your CPU core count in Task Manager
- Open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Shift + Esc, or right-click Start and select Task Manager. Microsoft documents both routes. Microsoft Support’s instructions also note: “Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to also open Task Manager.”
- Select Performance in the left pane.
- Select CPU.
- Find Cores in the CPU details. That is the core count you are looking for.
What “Cores” and “Logical processors” mean
A processor can contain one or more cores, and a core can provide one or more logical processors. Windows therefore shows separate values for Cores and Logical processors. Microsoft’s processor reference defines these as distinct counts; the logical-processor count can reflect enabled processor features such as hyperthreading. Microsoft’s Win32_Processor documentation describes the core and logical-processor properties.

Use the number beside Cores when you want the CPU core count. Do not assume the logical-processor number will always be exactly twice the core count; the relationship depends on the processor and its enabled features.
