Start with the official Xbox Game Pass games catalog, then filter by your subscription, device, and genre. For less obvious picks, browse the Indie genre and ID@Xbox collection, and use Recently added as another discovery route. Check each game’s live listing before you commit: catalog membership and access can vary by plan, platform, and time.
Use the Game Pass catalog as your starting point
The official catalog is more useful than a general popularity list when you want to find something unfamiliar. Search for a title or clue, sort alphabetically, or sort by Recently added. If you do not have a specific game in mind, filtering first makes a large library easier to explore.

Filter the library to match what you can play
- Choose your subscription. In the catalog’s subscription filter, select the plan you have. Game access can differ by subscription tier.
- Choose your play destination. Set the platform or destination you intend to use; the catalog includes platform controls, and not every game is available in every way.
- Narrow by genre. Try Indie for independent games, or explore Puzzle & trivia, Strategy, Simulation, and Role playing to find games outside your usual habits.
- Set a maturity rating if useful. The catalog includes a rating filter, which can help you narrow the list for your preferences or household.
These filters help distinguish a promising game from one that is actually playable on your plan and device.

Indie and ID@Xbox
Start with the catalog’s Indie genre and ID@Xbox collection. These are direct routes to independent games, although neither label guarantees that every title will suit your taste. Scan descriptions and game details for a play style that appeals to you.

Recently added and Play day one
Recently added is a useful way to spot games that have just joined the library. Play day one can also expose new releases available through Game Pass at launch. Both collections change over time, so revisit them rather than relying on an old list.
All games, Coming to Game Pass, and Leaving soon
All games provides a broad browse when you want to work through the catalog. Coming to Game Pass can help you plan for upcoming additions, while Leaving soon is the place to check for games with a time-sensitive departure. The catalog says members can buy games leaving the library with a member discount; verify the current listing and deadline before relying on that option.

Most popular
Most popular can orient you to widely played games, but it is less likely to reveal overlooked choices. Use it to get your bearings, then switch to genre filters or less prominent collections.

Use Xbox Indie Selects for leads, not availability checks
Xbox Indie Selects is a staff-curated source of indie recommendations. Xbox says its weekly collection focuses on titles that are not in Game Pass, although Game Pass favorites may appear in themed collections. Treat it as a way to discover names, then search for each game in the live Game Pass catalog before assuming it is included.

Check a game before you set aside time for it
Game Pass membership changes. Before recommending or starting a title, open its current catalog listing and confirm that it is available for your subscription and intended device. If you are choosing something to play soon, check Leaving soon as well. Availability by region and title-specific access should be confirmed in the listing rather than inferred from a general collection or an older recommendation.

- Genre and play loop: Check whether the core activity—solving puzzles, managing a system, exploring, or competing—sounds appealing.
- Session commitment: Look for reliable information on how long a session or full playthrough tends to take if that matters to you; the catalog filters do not establish this for every game.
- Solo or multiplayer: Confirm the mode in the game’s official details if you want to play alone or with others.
- Platform and access: Verify your device, subscription tier, and any listed cloud availability for that specific game.
- Rating and timing: Check its maturity rating and whether it is recently added or leaving soon.
These checks turn a promising discovery into a practical choice without relying on an old “best games” list that may not match your subscription or device.
