How to Find, Favorite, and Report Worlds in VRChat

Learn how to discover VRChat worlds, refine searches, save and organize favorites, and report worlds or missing content warnings—with dated feature details clearly qualified.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To find worlds in VRChat, open the Worlds or Search area and either browse suggestions or search for a topic; use any available filters and sorting controls to narrow results. Save useful worlds in favorite lists, and use VRChat’s reporting flow for a world or missing content warnings. Exact menu labels and options vary by client version and platform, so use the controls shown in your current app rather than relying on older screenshots or walkthroughs.

How world discovery works in VRChat

VRChat’s Worlds/Search experience is meant for both exploring unfamiliar places and locating worlds related to a known interest. Its layout and tools have changed over time, so release notes are useful for understanding the features’ purpose, but not as a guarantee of today’s exact screen sequence.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

In its 2022.3.1 release notes, VRChat described a redesigned Worlds menu intended to help people find what they were looking for and improve discoverability. It introduced “VRCat’s Variety Box,” which offered a random world from a set of categories; selecting Shuffle supplied different suggestions. The same update described a search experience with more results and additional filter options. These details establish the feature’s direction at that time, not a promise that the same names or arrangement remain in every current client. VRChat release notes

VRChat summarized that redesign this way: “The Worlds Menu has been completely redesigned to help users find exactly what they’re looking for as well as improve overall world discoverability.” This is wording from the company’s release notes, not a quotation attributed to a named person. The practical distinction is that discovery does not always require knowing a world’s name first: suggestions can help you explore, while search gives you more direct control when you have a subject or title in mind.

Choose a discovery method

Method Best for Control What to keep in mind
Browse suggestions Finding worlds when you do not have a specific destination in mind Lower: suggestions or randomized picks do the initial selection Past release notes describe randomized suggestions, including a Shuffle option; current labels and availability may differ.
Search by a topic or title Looking for a known world, subject, or keyword Higher: you choose the search term and can refine results where controls are available Search filters and sorting have changed over time; do not assume an old filter inventory is complete.

These approaches answer different needs rather than representing a documented “best” way to find a world. If you want an unexpected destination, try the suggestion or browse experience if your client offers it. If you already know a topic, a world title, or a keyword, search gives you a query to work from and may offer filters or sorting for further refinement. VRChat’s release notes do not establish how results are ranked, whether popularity is weighted, or what every current filter does.

How to search VRChat worlds by topic or tags

Start in the current Worlds or Search interface and enter a meaningful word or phrase. If the client exposes filters or sorting, apply only the controls relevant to your goal, then check that the results appear refined as expected. A previous custom search can affect later searches, so if results seem unexpectedly narrow, inspect the active settings before changing your search term.

VRChat’s 2023.1.1 release notes said world and user search filters and sorting had been improved and made persistent. Custom settings could remain in effect while the Main Menu stayed open and could refine later searches, including canned searches. The interface indicated this behavior with “Search Refined” text. Thus, a surprising result set may reflect retained filters rather than an absence of worlds matching your phrase. VRChat release notes

Persistence is useful when you want successive searches to follow the same constraints, but it can also make a later search appear to behave unexpectedly. For example, a custom refinement left active could continue affecting a later, prebuilt or “canned” search while the Main Menu remained open. If you are switching from a narrow search to general browsing, review the current refinement settings and clear or adjust them where the interface permits. Do not assume that changing only the text query resets every filter or sort choice.

Can you search VRChat worlds by tags?

An older 2018 patch note described a tag-search method: enter a term, then change “Search In” from “Title” to “Tags.” This is a historical UI description, not confirmation that the current client still exposes that exact selector. Look in today’s Search controls for an equivalent title/tag choice; if it is not present, use the available query and filters rather than assuming the older workflow still applies. • 33% MORE MEMORY — Elevate your play with 8GB of RAM. Upgraded memory delivers a next-level experience fueled by sharper graphics and more responsive performance.

In other words, the historical note supports that tag search existed in that version, but it is not enough to promise a current step-by-step tag workflow. The same caution applies to names and locations of filter controls: release notes document changes over time, not a complete current inventory for PC, VR, and mobile.

If your results look wrong

  • Check for active filters or sorting options that may have persisted from a previous search.
  • Look for an indicator such as “Search Refined” if your client displays one.
  • Clear or adjust the active settings, then run the search again.
  • Do not infer a world’s ranking or popularity from its placement; the release-note evidence does not establish a current ranking formula.

How to save and organize favorite worlds

Use the favorite control on a world’s current detail page or listing, then choose a favorite list if the client offers that choice. Favorites are useful for keeping destinations organized rather than searching for them again. VRChat’s 2026.1.1 release notes describe the ability to move worlds between favorite lists, so a world need not remain in the first list where it was saved. VRChat release notes

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The sources establish that worlds can be organized in favorite lists and that worlds can be moved between lists; they do not provide one universal button sequence for every client. If you are reorganizing, use the list-management or world-detail actions available in your app and confirm the destination list before moving the world. This is especially useful when a saved world belongs in a different collection later, without needing to treat the first list as permanent.

For capacity, VRChat’s 2026.1.1 notes say the world-favorite allowance for VRC+ subscribers increased from 400 to 800. That figure is specifically for VRC+ and should not be treated as the allowance for every account. VRChat release notes

Sorting by Date Added is intended to show worlds in the order they entered a list. VRChat’s 2025.3.2 notes described favorite-list worlds as sorted newest-first by date added and specified a maximum of 20 characters for a favorite-list name in the client. The later 2026.1.2 notes say the Date Added setting was fixed to sort worlds by when they were added, making that later fix the best available indication of its behavior. These are versioned release-note details and may change in future updates. VRChat release notes

  • EXPERIENCE VIRTUAL REALITY — Blend virtual objects with your physical space and experience two worlds at once in your VR headset.

The 20-character maximum is a client limit reported in the 2025.3.2 notes, so it is a practical reason to use concise names rather than long descriptions. The 400-to-800 increase, by contrast, is a VRC+ world-favorite capacity change announced in 2026.1.1; it does not establish a general limit for non-subscribers. Keep those two details separate when planning lists: one concerns list naming, and the other concerns a specific subscription tier’s favorite allowance.

Practical organization tips

  • Create short, recognizable list names; the 20-character client limit was stated in VRChat’s 2025.3.2 notes.
  • Move a world to a more appropriate list when your organization changes, where that action is available in your client.
  • Use Date Added when you want to surface recently saved worlds, and verify the active sort setting in the current list view.

How to report a VRChat world

VRChat’s 2024.2.2 release notes introduced report entry points in both the Main Menu and Quick Menu. The reporting page covered the world you are in, users and avatars, and groups represented in the current instance; it also added a page for viewing reports you have submitted. The notes said reports were also available from the relevant detail pages. Because menu placement can vary by client, open the current menu and follow its reporting option rather than relying on a fixed button sequence. VRChat release notes

The scope matters: the feature announcement describes reporting the world you are in and relevant people, avatars, and represented groups in the current instance, as well as accessing reports from their respective detail pages. It does not mean every report is limited to the current instance, since the notes also mention detail-page entry points. Choose the subject that matches the issue you are reporting, and use the current form’s categories rather than assuming a particular category or menu location based on an older client.

  1. Open the current Main Menu or Quick Menu, or open the relevant world’s detail page.
  2. Select the report action associated with the world or other relevant subject.
  3. Choose the category that best describes the issue and submit the report through the on-screen form.
  4. Use the submitted-reports page, if available in your client, to review reports you have filed.

The release notes establish these report destinations and access points; they do not establish a guaranteed response time, moderation result, or appeal route. Include accurate, relevant details in the report form and select the closest-fitting category rather than guessing about what action VRChat will take. The submitted-reports page is a way to view reports you filed; the cited information does not promise a particular status update or outcome there.

Reporting missing content warnings

VRChat’s 2023.4.2 notes describe content labels for worlds and avatars, including sexually suggestive content, adult language and themes, graphic violence, excessive gore, and extreme horror. The notes also identify “Missing Content Warnings” as a report category for a world or avatar that is not properly labeled. If you encounter content that appears to need a label, use that specific category when it is available in the current report form. VRChat release notes

This reporting category is specifically about content that is not properly labeled; it is distinct from simply disliking a world or finding that it is not what you expected. The labels named in the release notes span sexual content, adult language and themes, and violence or horror. Use the closest available category in the current form and report the world or avatar as appropriate. The source does not define a full checklist for deciding every label, so avoid treating this list as a complete policy manual.

Those 2023.4.2 notes said content-label filters were off by default for users aged 18 or older and always on for users under 18, based on the birthday entered during registration. That is a dated description of defaults, not a reliable statement of current Safety Settings. Check the Safety Settings in your current client to see which filters are enabled for your account and how they can be changed.

What varies by client and version

Release notes document feature announcements and later fixes, not one consolidated, current manual for PC, VR, and mobile. Search controls, exact button labels, filter availability, favorite-list actions, and report entry points may differ across platform and version. When a control described in an older note is missing, treat the current interface as authoritative and look for an equivalent function instead of assuming the feature is broken.

  • Search has historically supported filters and sorting, but a complete current list of filter choices is not established here.
  • Persistent search settings can affect later queries, so inspect refinements before concluding that search returned no relevant worlds.
  • Favorite capacity depends on account tier; the cited 800-world allowance applies to VRC+ subscribers in the 2026.1.1 notes.
  • Content-label filter defaults and reporting controls can change, so confirm current settings and labels in the app.

None of these discovery, favorite, or reporting tasks has a hardware purchase requirement established by the reviewed material. The relevant differences in this guide are client interface, version, and, for the cited favorite capacity increase, subscription tier. For the most reliable on-screen instructions, check the controls and settings in the client you are using.

How do I search VRChat worlds by tags?

A 2018 patch note described entering a term and changing “Search In” from “Title” to “Tags.” That is historical guidance, not confirmation of the current interface. Check today’s Search controls for an equivalent option; if it is not there, use the available query and refinements.

Why are my VRChat search results unexpectedly narrow?

Custom filters and sorting could persist while the Main Menu remained open, including into later or canned searches. Check active settings and look for “Search Refined” if your client shows it. Clear or adjust refinements and search again.

How many worlds can I favorite in VRChat?

VRChat’s 2026.1.1 release notes say the world-favorite allowance for VRC+ subscribers increased from 400 to 800. That specific figure should not be applied to every account; check the current client for your account’s allowance.

How do I report a VRChat world or missing content warning?

The 2024.2.2 notes describe report entry points in the Main Menu and Quick Menu, plus relevant detail pages. Select the subject and the closest-fitting category in your current form. For a world or avatar that is not properly labeled, the 2023.4.2 notes identify “Missing Content Warnings” as a category. The sources do not promise a response time or outcome.

The Bottom Line

Use suggestions to explore and search to pursue a topic, while checking for filters that may have carried over from an earlier query. Organize saved worlds in favorite lists, keeping in mind that the cited 800-world allowance is for VRC+ subscribers and list names were limited to 20 characters in 2025. For reports, use the current form and choose the category that matches the issue; verify exact controls and content-label settings in your client because the cited instructions are release-history details, not a universal current walkthrough.
