First identify the exact QuietComfort earbud generation: Bose sells similarly named fit kits that are not all interchangeable. Then try tip sizes separately in each ear, look for a comfortable seal, and replace the tips gently. If none of the supplied sizes works, choose an alternate kit only after matching it to your exact model.
Identify your QuietComfort earbud model first
“QuietComfort” covers several earbud generations. Check the model name in the Bose app or on the product packaging, then match that name to the fit kit before buying. Do not choose a kit based only on its appearance or on the words “QuietComfort” or “Ultra.”

Find a comfortable seal in each ear
Try the supplied sizes one side at a time
Start with a supplied size, insert the earbud, and assess that ear on its own. Your ears may need different eartip sizes, and models with stability bands may also need different band sizes on each side. There is no requirement to make the left and right match.

Judge comfort and stability
For QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen), Bose says the tip should rest gently at the ear-canal opening and make a comfortable seal. A tip that feels squashed or creates pressure may be too large. One that sits too deep, feels loose, or comes out when you move your head may be too small. The band should rest against the ridge of your ear without protruding or feeling compressed. Use the seal test when available
For covered Ultra models, the Bose app includes an Earbud Seal Test under the earbuds’ Settings menu. On the 2nd Gen, Bose recommends trying a different tip or band if the test does not indicate a good fit. Treat the app check as an additional fit aid: comfort and secure seating still matter.

Replace an eartip without tearing it
Original and 2nd Gen QuietComfort Ultra
- Hold the earbud securely. Gently squeeze the eartip and peel it away from the nozzle; do not yank or pull at the tip’s edge, which can tear.
- Choose the replacement size and line it up with the nozzle.
- Press the tip into place until it snaps securely and clicks.
- Repeat on the other ear if needed, then wear the earbuds and check comfort and seal again. Changing a tip may also mean changing the stability band.
Bose gives these removal and attachment instructions in the original Ultra user guide and the 2nd Gen Ultra user guide.
QuietComfort Earbuds (2024)
- Align the oval nozzle with the oval base of the correct model’s replacement tip.
- Slide the tip onto the nozzle, keeping the oval openings aligned in the same direction.
- Press gently until it clicks securely, then insert the earbud and reassess the fit.
The oval alignment and installation steps are specified in the QuietComfort Earbuds user guide. For the earlier model’s numbered tips, that guide says to try size 3 if the initially attached size 2 feels too loose, or size 1 if it feels too tight.

Check or change a stability band
This applies to models supplied with stability bands. On original QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds, align the dot on the band with the gray dot on the bottom of the earbud, and position the band’s microphone hole over the earbud microphone. Avoid pulling on the band’s thin section. Bose’s original Ultra specifications and guidance describe this alignment; try a different band size if the fit is uncomfortable or unstable.
