Find demos through Steam’s official Next Fest event page, browse by category or tag, or use the personalized Discovery Queue. Open a participating game’s Steam page and select its demo install button; you can also add the demo to your library and install it later. Steam lists its October 2026 Next Fest for October 19–26, but each game sets its own demo contents and availability.
When is the next Steam Next Fest?
Steam’s event page lists the October 2026 Next Fest for October 19–26. Check the official Next Fest page for current details and use its event reminder if you want Steam to notify you when the festival begins. Dates can change between festivals, so confirm the listing for the event you plan to attend.

How do I find demos to play?
Next Fest showcases demos of upcoming games, which Steam describes as free to try. Browse the event page’s featured games, then narrow the selection using categories, tags, subgenres, or features. Steam also offers a personalized Discovery Queue with recommendations based on games you already play, plus an event schedule for developer streams and chats. To choose among titles, compare the details each game actually provides: genre and tags, supported features and languages, system requirements, and estimated playtime if listed. Check the event schedule if you would like to watch a developer stream or join a chat. Not every game page lists every detail.

How do I download and launch a Steam Next Fest demo?
- Open the participating game’s Steam store page from the Next Fest event or Discovery Queue.
- Look for the demo control. Some demos have a standalone store page; others put the install button on the page for the full game.
- Select the demo install option. If you do not want to install it yet, add it to your library and install it later.
- When installation finishes, open the demo from your Steam Library and launch it.
Steam’s demo guidance also says you may receive a notification when a demo becomes available for a wishlisted game or one from a developer you follow. Wishlist games you want to keep track of.
How long is a Next Fest demo available?
There is no single availability period that applies to every demo. A game’s demo may have its own end date, and the developer may announce when it will be deactivated. For example, the DragonSword: Awakening team said its June 2026 demo would be deactivated 24 hours after Next Fest ended; that was a title-specific announcement, not a Steam-wide rule. Check the particular game’s store page and developer announcements for its availability dates, contents, and system requirements.

What should I check before installing?
- Requirements: Confirm the game’s listed system requirements against your computer.
- Contents and playtime: Read the game page or developer announcement; demo scope and estimated playtime vary, and may not be listed.
- Features and languages: Check the title’s page for controller support, supported languages, or other features you need rather than assuming every demo offers them.
- Availability: Look for a demo-specific end date, especially if you plan to install or play after the event.
Steam said in its July 25, 2024 demo update that thousands of playable demos launch on Steam every year and millions of players try them. Those are approximate platform-wide figures, not a count for a particular Next Fest. Steam also points players to its demo hub for demos beyond the festival.
