You can find or share a Wi‑Fi credential only if the device has already saved or connected to that network. On iPhone, open the saved network in the Passwords app to view or copy its password. Android’s documented route shares access with a QR code, while Windows provides steps to show saved passwords in Settings or Control Panel.
Choose the right method
| Device | Best route | What it gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Android | Settings > Network & internet > Internet > select network > Share | A QR code another device can scan to join. Google’s general instructions do not guarantee a plain-text password display on every Android build. Google’s Android Wi‑Fi instructions |
| iPhone | Passwords app > Wi-Fi > select network | View or copy the saved password. Apple’s iPhone instructions |
| Windows 11 | Settings > Network & internet > Properties, or Manage known networks | Show the current network password or a password for a saved network. Microsoft’s Windows instructions |
| Windows 10 | Network and Sharing Center > Wireless Properties > Security | Show the saved password in the Network security key box. Microsoft’s Windows instructions |
Find or share a saved Wi‑Fi network on Android
- Open Settings, then go to Network & internet > Internet.
- Tap the network you want to share. If it is not listed, it may need to be nearby for the list to refresh.
- Tap Share. Your phone displays a QR code that another device can scan to join the network. Google notes that some steps apply only to Android 12 and later, and menu labels can vary by phone maker and Android version. Google’s Android instructions
The documented Android method is QR-code sharing; it does not promise that every phone will also show the password as text. If your screen only shows a QR code, have the intended recipient scan it with a trusted device. Adding a network by entering its name (SSID) and security details does not reveal a forgotten password.

View or copy a saved Wi‑Fi password on iPhone
- Open the Passwords app and tap Wi-Fi.
- Select the saved network. The network you are currently using appears at the top; the list also includes previously saved networks.
- Tap the Password field to view it, or tap Copy Password to paste it into another app. Apple’s iPhone instructions
Share access with a nearby Apple device instead
If you do not need to read or copy the credential, Apple supports sharing it from a nearby iPhone. The sharing iPhone must be unlocked and connected to the Wi‑Fi network. The recipient selects that network in Wi‑Fi settings on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac; tap Share Password when prompted. Both devices must be within Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi range, not using Personal Hotspot, and have each other saved in Contacts. Apple also documents a Show Network QR Code option. Show a saved Wi‑Fi password in Windows
Windows 11
- For the current network, open Settings > Network & internet > Properties.
- Select Show beside Wi-Fi network password.
- For an earlier saved network, go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, select the network, then choose Show beside Wi-Fi network password. Microsoft’s Windows instructions
Windows 10
- Open Settings > Network & Internet > Status > Network and Sharing Center.
- Beside Connections, select the Wi‑Fi network.
- Choose Wireless Properties > Security, then select Show characters. Read the password in Network security key. These are Microsoft’s documented Windows 10 labels; they may look different after interface updates. Microsoft’s Windows instructions
If the network or password option is missing
- Check that the device has joined or saved the network before. These steps expose credentials stored on that device; they cannot retrieve a password for a network it has never joined.
- Search Settings for the relevant feature. Try “Wi-Fi” or “Passwords,” then open the saved network’s details. Android settings are especially likely to use manufacturer-specific labels.
- On Android, use the QR code if that is all the phone displays. The documented sharing flow is to let another device scan it; plain-text display is not assured across Android versions and devices.
- Keep QR codes private. Anyone who can scan a code that grants network access may be able to join, so share it only with intended recipients.
