Open the app used to fly the drone and check its Find My Drone or equivalent aircraft-location feature. Start at the aircraft’s last recorded coordinates—not the controller’s current position—and treat the map pin as a starting point, not live tracking. If the feature is unavailable, use the flight record’s final coordinates and a map app. Do not enter dangerous terrain or water to retrieve the aircraft.
Check the drone’s app for its last recorded location
For a compatible DJI aircraft, the recovery feature depends on the model and app. In DJI Fly, try Profile > Find My Drone or Camera View > Safety > Find My Drone. DJI GO 4 also has a Find My Drone entry. In DJI Pilot 2, use Camera View > Flight settings > Assistance > Find aircraft. DJI lists these options in its support guidance; the available menu varies by aircraft and app.

- Open the app associated with the aircraft and look for Find My Drone or Find aircraft.
- Note the aircraft’s recorded coordinates. Do not confuse them with the current location of your phone or controller.
- Save or copy the coordinates before leaving the area, then use them to plan a search.
DJI describes the feature as showing the drone’s last known coordinates, “not used for real-time positioning.” The pin may therefore show where the aircraft was when it last recorded or transmitted location data, not where it is now. See DJI’s Find My Drone guidance.

Check the app’s flight records for the final recorded longitude and latitude. DJI’s retrieval instructions are aircraft-specific, so follow the steps for your model rather than assuming every app stores or displays records in the same way. Enter the coordinates into a map app; DJI mentions Ovital Map, Google Earth, or another map as options in its support instructions.

- 【𝐔𝐩𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞】The R111S drone remote id module includes a built-in beeper, making it easier to locate lost aircraft. This enhancement provides added convenience when retrieving your drone from challenging locations, adding another layer of safety and control to the flying experience.
- 【𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭】This remote id module for drone can be used as a GPS tracker for FPV drones, RC gliders, RC helicopters, RC jet fighters, fixed-wing aircraft, fixed-wing helicopters, multirotors, flapping-wing drones, paragliding drones, etc. By integrating the aircraft's original positioning function with the module's app, it enables precise real-time tracking within a range of 500-1000 meters for dual positioning, enhancing the safety and reliability of your flight adventures.
- 【𝐅𝐀𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭】Ruko R111S remote id module can ensure all drones over 250g comply with FAA regulations. It is applicable to all Ruko drones and various other brands/models such as DJI Mini 2 SE, Mini 4K, Mini 3, Mini 3 Pro, Mini 4 Pro, Air 2S, Air 3, Mavic 3, Mavic 3 Pro, Avata 2, FPV, Spark, Phantom 2, Phantom 3, Phantom 3 SE, Phantom 4, Inspire 1, Inspire 2, Inspire 3, Matrice 210, Matrice 350, Matrice 600, Matrice 600 Pro; F7/F7GB2; ATOM, ATOM SE, etc.
- 【𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧】It only weighs 13.5g (0.48oz) with a size of 1.3*1.1*0.5 inch, more compact than other modules, and has almost no impact on drone flight.
- 【𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲】A full charge of R111S only takes 40 minutes and can last up to 3 hours of constant use when the buzzer is off and up to 2.5 hours when the buzzer is on, so can assist a drone for 5-6 flights. The built-in battery does not need to be replaced and can be charged directly by plugging it into the Type-C charging cable included in the package.
Use the final video, image information, and flight path as additional clues to orient yourself. DJI Fly may show image information from around the time the aircraft disconnected. These clues can narrow the search area, but they do not establish the drone’s precise current position.
Search safely and use onboard alerts only if available
If the aircraft is nearby, the app may offer a sound or flashing-light function. It can help you locate a drone hidden by vegetation or other obstacles only if the aircraft still has power, can function, and reconnects to the controller. A depleted battery, collision damage, or lack of connection may prevent an alert.

- 【FAA Compliance】Easily meets FAA requirements for drones over 250 g (0.55 lb). This RID module replaces bulky add‑on RID units, enabling legal flight for Mavic 3, Mini 4 Pro, Phantom 4, ATOM 3‑Axis, HS720 series, FPV drones, and 20+ other models.
- 【Locate-Helpful Buzzer & Protected Charging Port】HSRID02 features a built-in buzzer that helps locate the drone easier, supporting safer and more confident flights. The charging port is protected with a silicone cover to help reduce dust and water exposure. With an IP54 dust- and splash-resistant design, it is built to handle outdoor use.
- 【Customizable Strobe Lighting】HSRID02 is equipped with bright strobe lights offering green flash and red‑green‑white alternating modes. You can also set your own pattern through the app, improving visibility and make night flights easier and safer.
- 【GPS Drone Tracker】This Remote ID module helps track FPV drones, RC gliders, helicopters, and fixed‑wing aircraft. Paired with the app, it offers real-time tracking with accuracy within 3 m to enhance flight safety and reliability.
- 【4-Hour Battery Life】A full charge of HSRID02 takes only 60 minutes and can last up to 4 hours of constant use. The built-in battery doesn’t need replacement and can be charged directly by the Type-C charging cable included. Charge once, go for hours.
Keep the search within safe, accessible areas. DJI specifically warns that searching in places such as the sea, mountains, and cliffs can be dangerous; do not risk injury to recover equipment. Its flyaway guidance puts safety first. If you find the drone damaged, DJI recommends submitting an online repair request and obtaining a diagnosis before flying it again.
Do not assume Return to Home brought it back
Return to Home (RTH) behavior depends on the aircraft’s configured settings and the circumstances of the flight. DJI advises checking the Home Point and return altitude in its RTH guidance. After a lost signal, use the flight record and last known aircraft coordinate to investigate; do not treat RTH as proof that the drone returned safely.

Submit a flyaway case if you cannot recover it
If the aircraft remains missing, synchronize its flight records where the app and your region allow, then follow the manufacturer’s process for a flyaway case. DJI’s flyaway support page describes that process. Availability and record-sync options can vary by location: DJI says U.S. consumer and enterprise operators lost the option to sync flight records to DJI servers in June 2024, and previously opted-in server copies were to be deleted. Check the current regional support instructions rather than assuming server synchronization is available.

A locator accessory can help only if it was installed and set up before the drone went missing. One retailer lists the STARTRC Drone Alarm System as a finder buzzer with Apple Find My navigation, light, and sound, naming DJI Mini 4 Pro, Avata 2, and Mavic series among supported devices. That listing is not independent performance testing or proof of compatibility with every model. Before buying or attaching any locator, confirm current compatibility with its maker and check its mounting, setup, and power requirements. A locator cannot be added retroactively to find an aircraft already lost.
