1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesGoogle’s documented Find Hub features are for supported Android devices, and Google’s guidance reviewed here does not list Chromebooks as supported. Do not expect a lost Chromebook to appear on a Find Hub map or to be lockable, erasable, or made to ring through that service. If it is a school or work device, contact its administrator; if it is yours, secure the Google Account you used on it and follow the appropriate local process if you suspect theft.
Can Google Find Hub locate a Chromebook?
Google describes Find Hub as a way to locate, secure, or erase a lost Android device, with options such as making a supported device play a sound. Google’s Android guidance also describes finding supported devices through the web or app. The official guidance reviewed for this article does not list Chromebooks or provide Chromebook-specific enrollment, location, lost-mode, or remote-erase instructions.

That is a careful statement about the documented scope, not a direct Google quote saying every Chromebook configuration is categorically unsupported. In practical terms, though, you should not rely on Find Hub to find a Chromebook. A map pin for a phone or accessory is not evidence of where the Chromebook is, and Find Hub actions for Android devices should not be assumed to work on ChromeOS hardware.
Google’s current service pages use the name Find Hub. Some people may search for the older name “Find My Device”; the key question is the same: Google’s reviewed guidance describes Android devices, not Chromebook tracking.

What to do first if a Chromebook is missing
Choose the next step based on who owns or manages the computer. A school or employer may have a process for lost devices, while a personally owned Chromebook calls for account-security measures and, if theft is suspected, a report through the appropriate local channel.
Use a short immediate checklist
- Write down when and where you last had the Chromebook, including the room, vehicle, classroom, office, library, or travel stop.
- Call or revisit places where it may have been left, and ask whether a lost-and-found desk has logged it. If you were traveling, contact the carrier or venue promptly.
- Record the make, model, color, case markings, serial number, and any asset label. A purchase receipt, original box, warranty record, or organization inventory may contain the serial number.
- Decide whether the device is personally owned or managed by a school or employer. That determines who can take the next formal step.
- If there is any sign of theft or unauthorized account access, secure the account and make the appropriate report rather than trying to recover the device yourself.
These actions do not create a location signal. They improve the chance that someone can identify and return the correct computer and give an administrator or local authority useful information.
If it belongs to a school or employer
- Contact the school or employer’s IT team, administrator, or designated device contact as soon as possible.
- Give them identifying details they request, such as the device’s make, model, serial number, and the time and place it was last seen, if you have that information.
- Follow the organization’s lost-device procedure. Google’s account setup guidance says that a managed Chromebook is typically owned by its organization, so the organization is the appropriate first contact.
- Tell the administrator whether the Chromebook may have been left somewhere, lost during travel, or stolen. That context can determine which internal forms, inventory updates, or notifications are required.
Do not assume that organization management provides a location or remote-control feature. The sources reviewed establish that managed devices belong to the organization in typical cases, but do not document a specific Chromebook tracking capability or promise that an administrator can locate a particular missing device. An organization may have its own policies or tools, so ask what it can actually do instead of assuming that Find Hub can do it.

If it is your personal Chromebook
- Secure the Google Account you used on the Chromebook with Google’s account-security tools. Review the account’s active sessions and sign out of anything you do not recognize, where those controls are available.
- If you suspect someone has accessed the account or learned its password, change the password and review the account’s security settings. These actions protect the account; they do not locate, lock, or erase the Chromebook.
- Check other accounts that were used on the computer, such as school, work, shopping, banking, or cloud-storage accounts. Change credentials when compromise is possible, using each service’s own security controls.
- Write down the Chromebook’s serial number and identifying details if you can find them in your purchase records, packaging, or other records you already have access to.
- If you believe the Chromebook was stolen, report the loss through the appropriate local channel and provide the identifying details. Do not confront anyone or approach a place based on a location shown for an unrelated phone or accessory.
Account security and device recovery are different tasks. Taking steps to protect an account can reduce the risk of account misuse, but it should not be presented as a way to control the missing computer remotely. If the Chromebook was used for sensitive work, notify the relevant employer, school, or service provider so it can apply its own incident process.
Why Find Hub may show another device but not the Chromebook
Find Hub’s documented lost-device actions concern supported Android devices and accessories. A Chromebook is a ChromeOS computer, and Google’s reviewed Find Hub pages do not explain how to enroll one, report its location, put it into a lost state, erase it remotely, or make it play a sound. Without such Chromebook-specific instructions, there is no supported Chromebook setup path to follow in Find Hub.
If a phone appears in Find Hub, its reported location is information about that phone, not the Chromebook. The same distinction applies to an accessory: even if a separate tag attached to a bag can be found through a compatible service, its location identifies the tagged item, not necessarily the computer. A bag may have been moved, separated from the Chromebook, or left behind.

Google’s Android overview describes finding supported devices through the web or app, but that does not extend support to every device signed into a Google Account. Being able to sign in to the same account on both a phone and a Chromebook is not, by itself, evidence that the Chromebook can be tracked in Find Hub.

Can a bag tracker help?
A compatible tracker attached to a Chromebook case or bag can be a preventive aid if it was set up before the loss and the tracker’s service can be accessed from a supported device. It tracks the tag, not the Chromebook itself. The official sources reviewed do not establish that a Chromebook can access Find Hub to locate such a tracker, so do not treat a tag as a way to track the missing computer through Find Hub.
For future prevention, consider the practical details before relying on a tracker:
- Attach it to what you want to find: a tag secured to a case or bag can help identify that item, but it may stop being useful if the Chromebook is removed from it.
- Check compatibility and access: confirm which phone, app, and network the tracker requires, and how you would view its location if your Chromebook were unavailable.
- Set it up in advance: a tracker that has not been configured before the loss cannot retroactively provide a location.
- Plan for power: check whether its battery is replaceable or rechargeable and how you will know when it needs attention.
- Consider placement and identification: secure the tag so it is not easily detached, and keep its account or pairing details somewhere you can retrieve without the Chromebook.
- Understand the result: a tag’s map point is evidence about the tag and the item carrying it at that time, not proof of the Chromebook’s own position.
These are considerations for locating a tagged item in the future, not a replacement for a Chromebook location feature. A tracker also cannot tell you whether a bag still contains the computer unless you physically check.
What Chromebook Recovery does—and does not do
Google’s Chromebook Recovery instructions are for repairing ChromeOS after you have physical access to the Chromebook. Recovery is not a locator, lost-device mode, or remote-control tool. Creating a recovery drive will not reveal where a missing computer is.

Google specifies a USB drive with at least 8 GB of capacity for USB recovery and warns that the drive’s contents will be erased. Treat recovery media as a repair step for a Chromebook you have recovered, not as part of searching for one. Recovery can also erase files stored on the device, so consider the consequences before proceeding and consult Google’s recovery guidance for the current procedure.
Do not insert a recovery drive into a computer you have not recovered simply to test whether it can be found. The utility prepares repair media; it does not register a device with Find Hub, add a serial number to a map, or transmit a location. If the Chromebook turns up but will not start correctly, first preserve any information you still need and then follow the current recovery instructions. The 8 GB requirement applies to the USB media, not to a requirement for tracking or account recovery.
What information should you give an administrator or report?
A precise description is more useful than a claim that Find Hub should locate the Chromebook. Include the Chromebook’s manufacturer and model, color, screen size if known, stickers or scratches, case color, serial number, organization asset tag, and the Google Account or user assigned to it. Add the last confirmed time and place, likely travel route, and names of locations already checked. If you have a receipt or photograph, keep it available but do not publish sensitive account details publicly.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Searching for a Chromebook in Find Hub as if it were an Android phone: the documented Find Hub coverage reviewed here does not provide Chromebook location instructions.
- Assuming a shared Google Account means shared tracking: signing in to the same account on multiple devices does not establish that each device is locatable in Find Hub.
- Treating a nearby tag’s map location as the computer’s location: the tag identifies itself or the item carrying it, not the Chromebook independently.
- Using recovery media to try to find the computer: recovery requires access to the Chromebook and repairs ChromeOS; it does not locate the device.
- Assuming a managed Chromebook is yours to recover independently: an organization is typically the owner of a managed Chromebook, so follow its process.
- Waiting to report a possible theft: delays can make it harder to reconstruct where the device was last seen and may conflict with an organization’s incident policy.
- Approaching a person or location based on an unrelated map pin: a pin for a phone or accessory does not confirm where the Chromebook is, and acting on a mistaken assumption can create safety risks.
- Buying recovery media as a locator: an 8 GB-or-larger USB drive is for OS repair after recovery of the computer, not for finding it.
Google’s relevant official guidance
- Google’s Find Hub: Locate, Lock, or Erase Your Device page describes lost-device actions for Android devices.
- Google Account Help’s Find, secure, or erase a lost Android device page discusses Android lost-device and Find Hub network functions; it does not list Chromebooks among the devices described.

- Google Chromebook Help’s Recover your Chromebook instructions cover ChromeOS recovery, including the USB-drive requirement and erasure warning.
- Google Chromebook Help’s Sign in with your Google Account guidance explains that an organization is typically the owner of a managed Chromebook.
These pages establish the distinction between Android device finding, managed Chromebook ownership, and ChromeOS recovery. They do not establish a Chromebook-specific Find Hub feature or a guarantee of location accuracy. Google could change product support in the future, so check the current official device list if you are setting up a replacement or prevention plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add my Chromebook to Google Find Hub?
Google’s documented Find Hub material covers supported Android devices and accessories. It does not provide a Chromebook enrollment or location procedure, so you should not expect a Chromebook to appear as a trackable device.
Recommended Free Tools
Is Google Find Hub the same as Find My Device?
Google now uses the Find Hub name in its current pages. The relevant limitation is unchanged for this question: the documented lost-device functions describe Android devices, not Chromebook tracking.
Best Value
What if my Chromebook is signed in to the same Google Account as my phone?
Sharing an account does not prove that every signed-in device is locatable. A phone shown in Find Hub supplies information about that phone, not automatically about the Chromebook.
Can my school or employer track a missing Chromebook?
Contact the organization’s administrator immediately. Google says a managed Chromebook is typically owned by the organization, but the official guidance reviewed here does not promise a particular Chromebook location or remote-control capability.
Will a Chromebook bag tracker locate the Chromebook?
A compatible tag configured before the loss can help locate the tagged bag or case through its supported service. It does not report the Chromebook’s own location, and the computer may have been separated from the bag.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Can Chromebook Recovery Utility help me find a lost computer?
No. Recovery is a ChromeOS repair process that requires physical access to the Chromebook. Google specifies an 8 GB-or-larger USB drive and warns that the drive is erased; recovery media is not a locator.
What should I do if I think the Chromebook was stolen?
Secure the Google Account and other accounts used on the machine, record the serial number and identifying details, notify a school or employer if it is managed, and make the appropriate local report. Do not confront anyone based on an unrelated map pin.
Can Google remotely erase my lost Chromebook through Find Hub?
The official Find Hub guidance reviewed here describes remote actions for supported Android devices. It does not provide Chromebook-specific remote-erase instructions, so do not assume that an Android erase command applies to ChromeOS hardware.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Google’s current documented Find Hub coverage is for supported Android devices, not a stated Chromebook-finding workflow. Contact the school or employer for a managed Chromebook, secure accounts and report a suspected theft for a personal one, and reserve ChromeOS recovery for a computer you have physically recovered. A preconfigured bag tracker may locate the tagged bag, but it is not Chromebook tracking through Find Hub.
