To find a device’s Hardware ID in Windows 11, open Device Manager, open the device’s Properties, then go to Details and choose Hardware Ids from the Property list. If you need the most specific value, use the first entry.
Find a device’s Hardware ID in Device Manager

Open Windows Search, type Device Manager, and select it from the results.

Expand the category that contains the device and locate it. Its category depends on the type of device.

Right-click the device and select Properties.

Open the Details tab.

Open the Property dropdown and select Hardware Ids. The IDs appear in the value list.

If you were asked for the most specific Hardware ID, copy the first value in the list. Windows orders the list from most specific to least specific.
Choose the right identifier
Windows uses Hardware IDs to match a device to a driver package. Microsoft defines a hardware ID as “a vendor-defined identification string that Windows uses to match a device to a driver package.” The list can contain multiple values, with more specific entries ahead of more general ones; it can contain up to 64 IDs.

Hardware Ids: Select this when the request specifically asks for a device’s Hardware ID.

Compatible Ids: Select this property only if the request asks for compatible IDs. They are generally more generic than Hardware IDs and may describe a device type without specifying its manufacturer or model.

Device instance ID: This identifies an installed device instance. It is not the same as the Hardware Ids property.

Computer hardware ID (CHID): This identifies the computer as a whole, not the selected device. Windows generates it from SMBIOS field data when the system boots, provided the fields required for that CHID are populated.

If Hardware Ids is not the property you need
Use the wording of the request to guide your choice. For a form that asks for Compatible Ids, return to the same Details tab and select that property from the dropdown. If the request asks for an instance ID or a computer CHID, do not substitute a value from the device’s Hardware Ids list: these are different identifiers for different purposes.
