To raise weapon mastery, keep your chosen weapon equipped and use it in combat; character level and mastery are separate progression tracks. For character XP, follow the quest chain for your current region, then move on when its turn-ins stop being worthwhile. A community guide updated September 30, 2026, reports a level cap of 255 and recommends Crow and Biwa Bell quests for mastery farming at cap. Because these are community-sourced, update-sensitive routes, check quest requirements and rewards in the live game before committing to a long grind.
Choose the right farm for your goal
Character levels come primarily from quest chains, while weapon mastery advances through weapon use and unlocks later moves. Do not assume that gaining character XP also raises mastery: equip the weapon family you want to develop and keep using it while you complete your level route. The recommendations below reflect community guides available as of September 30, 2026, rather than official developer documentation.

| Your goal | Community guide recommendation | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Character levels, before cap | Quest chains | Move to a new region when your current turn-ins no longer make useful progress. |
| Weapon mastery, before cap | Dungeons can be useful | Keep the target weapon equipped and use it in combat; no measured mastery-per-hour rate is established. |
| Weapon mastery, at cap | Crow and Biwa Bell quests | The September 30, 2026 guide recommends these for mastery and endgame farming. |
| Weapon mastery, alternative | Ranked PvP: moderate pace | This is the guide’s qualitative comparison, not a measured rate. |
| Character XP, private servers | Lower than quest chains in the guide’s comparison | Use them for other reasons, not on the assumption that they are the fastest XP route. |
The activity rankings are the guide author’s comparisons; the consulted pages do not establish XP-per-hour or mastery-per-hour figures. See the September 30 leveling guide and farming-methods guide.

Follow the character-level quest route
Use these brackets as route targets, not guaranteed gates. Clear speed, server population, clan bonuses, and updates can affect when it makes sense to move on. The ranges and NPCs below are from a community guide updated September 30, 2026.

| Approximate character level | Region and quest giver | Route focus |
|---|---|---|
| 1–10 | Windy Peak; Krue and Kazu | Opening kill quests and Zuko |
| 10–26 | Bear Area; Tom | Bear Cubs, then Mother Bear |
| 26–40 | Kaiden Area; Chaka | Kaiden Subordinates, then Kaiden |
| 40–58 | Final Selection route; Wagwan | Trial enemies and the Hand Demon milestone chain |
| 58 and above | Hidden Mist and beyond; Jugg, Goro, Tomoi, and Mitsu | Continue through mid- and late-game quest chains |
| At the reported cap | Crow and Biwa Bell quests | Repeatable activities for mastery and endgame farming |
- Take the quests from the listed giver for your current region and bracket.
- Complete and turn in objectives promptly instead of repeatedly farming an outgrown zone.
- If other players help clear shared targets, group play may speed up the route.
- When turn-ins stop producing useful progress, check the next chain and its live requirements before relocating.
Final Selection is a point of disagreement between community guides: the September 30 leveling guide places its route around levels 40–58, while an older guide recommends a level 40–45 window. Treat neither as a confirmed universal entry requirement; check the in-game gate. The older recommendation appears in the older leveling guide.
Raise weapon mastery while you quest
Commit to the weapon family you want
Mastery is tied to weapon use, not simply character progression. The progression guide recommends choosing a weapon family early and training it as you follow the character-level quest route, since later moves are gated along mastery lines. The community progression guide describes the distinction and move unlocks.

Use the weapon in combat, not at the quest giver
A mastery guide says mastery advances while you swing the equipped weapon, so standing idle between turn-ins does not train it. For a focused session, loop through combat with enemies you can defeat quickly, using the target weapon. This is community advice, not official confirmation of the precise mastery mechanic; see the mastery guide.

Change activities as you approach the cap
Before the cap, the methods guide considers dungeons useful for mastery; at cap, it recommends Crow and Biwa Bell quests. Ranked PvP is described as a moderate mastery option. These are qualitative recommendations, not promises that one activity will be fastest for every build or server.

Check requirements before farming for a breathing style
A beginner guide updated September 30, 2026, reports a level-25 requirement for the breathing-style path and a trainer chain involving meditation, strength tasks, and a parkour dungeon. Horn requirements vary by style, and the guide warns that early-access gates and prices can change. Inspect the trainer’s current list of requirements before farming a particular material. Details are in the community beginner guide.

The newest consulted leveling guide, updated September 30, 2026, reports a character cap of 255 and says older videos may give 225 from an earlier build. A separate launch-week guide dated September 19, 2026, still states 225. The newer figure is the better-supported current answer among these sources, but the conflict means it is not a confirmed permanent cap.
