A factory reset erases your ASUS router’s saved configuration—including its internet connection settings and Wi-Fi name and password—so make sure you have any ISP-required details before you begin. After the reset, reconnect the modem, run ASUS Quick Internet Setup (QIS), and create new Wi-Fi and router-admin credentials.
Before you reset: what will be erased?
ASUS says a reset deletes current settings and restores the router’s factory defaults. That includes the saved internet configuration and Wi-Fi credentials; household devices will have to join the network again using the new Wi-Fi name and password you choose. Menu names and reset methods vary by model and firmware, so use the manual for your exact router if its controls differ from the general steps below. ASUS reset instructions

How do I reset my ASUS router to factory settings?
Reset through the web interface
Use the interface method if you can still sign in. ASUS’s general router instructions give this path:
- Open the router’s web interface and sign in.
- Go to Administration > Restore/Save/Upload Setting > Restore.
- Confirm the restore and let the router restart. Do not unplug it while the reset is in progress.
Where supported, the ASUS Router or ExpertWiFi app may offer Settings > System Settings > System reset to factory default. App labels and availability depend on the model and firmware. ASUS reset instructions

Reset with the physical button
If you cannot reach the interface, find the RESET button using your model’s manual. ASUS’s general instructions say to hold RESET for 5–10 seconds, until the power LED flashes, then release it and wait for the router to restart. Button placement and behavior can differ by model; do not assume the timing applies to every ASUS router. ASUS reset instructions
What if the ASUS reset button doesn’t work?
Check your model’s manual and try the standard reset method first. ASUS describes a hard factory reset as a model-specific recovery procedure, not a universal alternative. For models covered by ASUS’s Method 1, the documented sequence is to turn the router off, hold WPS while turning it on, release WPS after the power LED begins flashing, and wait for reboot. Use this only if the exact model is listed for that method. ASUS hard-reset instructions

How do I set up my ASUS router again after a factory reset?
Reconnect and open QIS
- Connect the modem’s Ethernet cable to the router’s WAN port, then power on the modem and router.
- For a wired setup, connect a computer to a router LAN port. For wireless setup, join the default Wi-Fi network printed on the router label.
- Open asusrouter.com or the router’s LAN IP address in a browser. ASUS says the Quick Internet Setup (QIS) page ordinarily opens on the first web-interface login after a reset. ASUS QIS instructions
Configure the internet connection
Let QIS detect the WAN connection first. ASUS’s setup flow supports Automatic IP (DHCP), PPPoE, and Static IP, with manual configuration when needed. If detection does not work, select the connection type your ISP gave you; do not guess. PPPoE may require an ISP-supplied account name and password. Static IP setup requires the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS values provided by the ISP. ASUS QIS instructions
Create separate Wi-Fi and administrator credentials
Choose a Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password, then set the router’s administrator username and password. These are separate credentials: the Wi-Fi password connects devices to the network, while the administrator login opens the router settings. Some models show factory login information on their label; after setup, use the administrator credentials you created. ASUS’s QIS example specifies a Wi-Fi password of at least eight characters, but exact prompts can vary by model and firmware. ASUS QIS instructions

How do I get my internet back after resetting my router?
Check the router’s management page for an internet-connected status after QIS finishes. If it is not connected, verify that the modem is plugged into the WAN port and that the WAN type and any ISP-provided credentials or static-IP values are correct. If the ISP requires account details or special settings you do not have, contact the provider rather than trying arbitrary values. Once the router reports a connection, reconnect devices using the new Wi-Fi credentials.
For wireless security, choose an encryption option supported by both the router and client devices. ASUS lists WPA3-Personal and WPA2/WPA3-Personal on supported configurations, but availability depends on model and firmware. ASUS also notes that WPS is not supported with WPA3; if you rely on WPS, choose a compatible security mode instead. ASUS Wi-Fi security guidance
