Back up anything you want to keep before you start; after the reset, that data may not be recoverable. On many Galaxy tablets, the reset is under Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset, though labels vary by model and software version.
Before you reset: back up your data
Save the photos, videos, documents, and other files you want to keep somewhere you can access after the tablet is wiped. Samsung warns that personal information may not be recoverable after a factory reset. See Samsung’s reset guidance.

If your tablet uses an encrypted microSD card, decrypt it before resetting. Samsung warns that an encrypted card may not be readable by the tablet afterward. Also check removable storage separately: Samsung’s regional guidance says a factory reset erases internal-storage data but does not automatically delete SD-card data. Do not assume the card is either backed up or wiped; preserve needed files and check the card yourself.

Open Settings.

Tap General management, then Reset, then Factory data reset. Names and locations can differ by model and software version. If you do not see the option, use Settings search and search for Factory data reset.

Read the on-screen information about what will be erased. Continue only if you are ready to wipe the tablet; depending on the screen, you may need to tap Reset and then Delete all.

Enter your screen-lock credentials if requested. If a Samsung account is signed in, the tablet may also request its password. Samsung’s US instructions say a network connection is required to log out of a Samsung account before completing the reset.

Allow the tablet to restart and finish resetting. When it is done, it returns to the initial setup screen.

Samsung’s tablet-specific instructions describe the same general route to the reset and initial setup. Your exact confirmation screens may differ.

What gets erased—and what does not
Factory data reset erases personal data stored on the tablet and returns it to its initial setup state. It is the option to use when you intend to wipe the device.
Reset all settings is a different operation. Samsung says it does not erase apps or personal data, so it is not a substitute for a factory data reset when you want to clear the tablet. Removable SD-card data may be handled differently from internal storage; check and preserve card contents separately.

Be ready to verify your accounts during setup
After the reset, Android’s Factory Reset Protection (FRP) may ask you to verify the Google account previously registered on the tablet. Samsung says FRP applies to Android 5.1 (Lollipop) and later, and that reset methods other than the factory-data-reset option in Settings can trigger it. Make sure you know the account credentials associated with the tablet before proceeding. Samsung explains the feature in its factory-reset support article.

If you cannot open Settings
Do not try a generic button combination from instructions for another Galaxy model. Recovery-button sequences can differ by device, and the cited Samsung guidance directs locked-out users to additional support rather than giving one universal sequence. Consult Samsung support for your specific tablet model before attempting a reset outside Settings.
