Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo make your Android phone ring longer before voicemail picks up, you usually need to change a setting with your mobile carrier—not in Android’s Phone app. Whether you can extend the unanswered-call timeout, and how to do it, depends on your carrier, network, and voicemail setup. Check your carrier’s current instructions before entering a dial code; there is no universal Android code.
What controls how long your phone rings?
The carrier network controls what happens when you do not answer a call, including when it forwards the call to voicemail. Android does not have one cross-carrier setting for that timeout. Changing your ringtone can make the sound more noticeable, but it does not give the network more time before voicemail picks up.
Some carriers let you adjust the no-answer timeout using conditional call forwarding or a supported dial code; others set it themselves. “More rings” is not a reliable measure of a specific number of seconds because ring cycles and network timing can differ.
How to check whether your carrier allows a longer ring time
- Identify your carrier and network. If you use an MVNO, check which network option your line uses; different options from the same provider may have different rules.
- Look up the carrier’s current instructions. Search its support site for voicemail, unanswered-call forwarding, or ring-time settings. Use instructions for your exact carrier, country, and network.
- Ask support if the instructions are unclear. Confirm whether your line and voicemail setup support a longer no-answer timeout, the available intervals, and the correct method.
A dial code that works on one carrier may not work on another. Avoid generic codes or voicemail access numbers copied from unrelated instructions: an unsupported forwarding change can interfere with voicemail routing. If a carrier-approved code returns an error, stop and contact the carrier rather than trying alternatives.

Carrier examples: what is supported
| Carrier or service | Published guidance | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| US Mobile Light Speed | US Mobile lists 5-, 10-, 15-, 20-, 25-, or 30-second options. Its example code is **61*18056377243**[seconds]#. |
US Mobile’s Light Speed network only. See US Mobile’s Advanced setup instructions before using the code. |
| US Mobile Dark Star | US Mobile lists the same 5–30-second options. Its example format is *61*+1[your 10-digit phone number]*11*[seconds]#. |
US Mobile’s Dark Star network only. Follow the carrier’s current instructions and replace the bracketed parts as directed. |
| US Mobile Warp | US Mobile says calls ring for 30 seconds and that the duration cannot be changed. | US Mobile’s Warp network; do not apply the Light Speed or Dark Star codes to this option. |
| Verizon consumer wireless | Verizon support describes the mobile ring time as about 30 seconds and says customers cannot extend it. | Consumer wireless guidance; confirm any account-specific options with Verizon. See the Verizon Community discussion. |
| AT&T wireless | AT&T’s support index lists a topic about changing the number of rings before voicemail, but no validated method or maximum is established here. | Check AT&T’s voicemail support page or ask AT&T for instructions for your line. |
| Vodafone UK | Vodafone UK describes a 5–30-second range in five-second increments. | UK guidance only; it is not an instruction for other carriers or countries. See Vodafone UK’s voicemail ring-time instructions. |
Use US Mobile dial codes only on the supported network
US Mobile’s instructions distinguish the network options: ring-duration adjustment is available only on Light Speed and Dark Star; Warp is fixed at 30 seconds. If you are on one of the supported options, consult the carrier’s current Advanced setup page for the precise steps and the duration you want. Do not treat either example code as a general Android or carrier code.
Changing the no-answer timeout is different from forwarding all calls. US Mobile warns that full call forwarding prevents the phone from ringing while forwarding is enabled. Use only the carrier’s instructions for the specific forwarding behavior you intend to change.

What if there is no ring-time setting?
If your carrier says the timeout is fixed, changing Android settings or installing a different ringtone will not extend it. You can ask the carrier whether another voicemail or line configuration is available, but do not assume a business voicemail feature applies to a consumer mobile line.
For example, Verizon’s business voicemail guides describe ring-count features for certain business products. Those are separate offers, not evidence that Verizon consumer wireless customers can change their mobile voicemail timeout. See Verizon’s Voicemail User Guide for the business product context.
