SAP’s latest reported quarter in the materials available here is Q2 2026: cloud revenue grew 22% year over year as reported, or 24% at constant currencies, and current cloud backlog reached €22.9 billion. Those figures support a business-growth case, but they do not establish whether the stock is cheap or expensive; that requires a dated share price and consistent valuation inputs.
What SAP sells, and what investors should assess
SAP SE, headquartered in Walldorf, Germany, sells enterprise applications that connect business processes such as finance, procurement, human resources, supply chain and customer experience. Its stated strategic direction is toward integrated applications on a cloud platform. That makes growth among existing customers—through migrations, added modules and capacity—as important to assess as new-customer wins. SAP SE’s 2025 Form 20-F describes the company’s strategy and business risks.

For investors, the business model creates a transition to watch: SAP is shifting customers from on-premise licenses and maintenance toward cloud subscriptions. Cloud growth and backlog can indicate momentum, but the quality of execution also depends on renewals, customer adoption and the conversion of contracted demand into reported revenue and cash flow.
What the latest reported results say
In its July 23, 2026 Q2 and half-year release, SAP reported the following year-over-year changes. “Reported” figures reflect results in the reporting currency; constant-currency figures adjust for exchange-rate effects. Compare figures on the same basis rather than treating the two measures as interchangeable. SAP’s Q2 and half-year 2026 results provide the company-reported figures.

| Measure | Q2 2026 change or value | What to look at |
|---|---|---|
| Current cloud backlog | €22.9 billion; up 27% reported and 26% at constant currencies | Whether backlog growth converts into cloud revenue over time. |
| Cloud revenue | Up 22% reported and 24% at constant currencies | Growth in the central recurring-revenue area of the portfolio. |
| Cloud ERP Suite revenue | Up 25% reported and 27% at constant currencies | Performance in SAP’s cloud ERP offering. |
| Total revenue | Up 9% reported and 11% at constant currencies | How the broader business is growing beyond cloud. |
| Operating profit | IFRS: up 8%; non-IFRS: up 7% reported and 9% at constant currencies | Keep IFRS and adjusted measures distinct when assessing profitability. |
These are SAP’s own reported results, not independent market statistics. Currency adjustments matter: in Q2 2026, constant-currency growth was higher than reported growth across the listed revenue measures. A comparison that mixes the two bases can overstate or understate changes in performance.
How to judge the 2026 outlook
SAP’s 2025 Form 20-F gave an original 2026 outlook of €25.8–€26.2 billion in cloud revenue and €11.9–€12.3 billion in non-IFRS operating profit. Those figures are not the latest full outlook available: the Q2 2026 release says the non-IFRS operating-profit outlook was updated to reflect dilution from the Dremio and Prior Labs acquisitions. The available materials do not establish the updated operating-profit range, so the original range should not be treated as current. The annual report also expected current cloud backlog growth to slightly decelerate. 2025 Form 20-F; Q2 and half-year 2026 results.
Rank #2
Use management’s outlook as a set of targets and assumptions to test against subsequent results, not as a guarantee. Track whether cloud revenue moves toward the stated range, how backlog growth develops, and whether operating-profit delivery accounts for acquisition dilution. For operating profit, distinguish IFRS results from SAP’s non-IFRS measure; do not present an adjusted figure as though it were IFRS earnings.

How to assess SAP’s valuation
A business can grow quickly and still be a poor investment if its share price already assumes more growth or profitability than it delivers. Conversely, a high multiple alone does not establish that a share is overvalued. A price-based conclusion needs a quote with a date, currency and share class, plus financial inputs calculated on a consistent basis. The sources cited above do not provide a contemporaneous market quote, market capitalization or current valuation multiples, so they cannot establish whether SAP is cheap or expensive.
Rank #3
- Price-to-earnings (P/E): Match the share price to a clearly defined earnings period and basis. Consider the multiple alongside expected growth and margin trajectory, and label non-IFRS earnings if used.
- Free-cash-flow yield: Compare free cash flow with equity value. Check cash conversion and working-capital effects, and distinguish reported measures from adjusted ones.
- Enterprise-value multiples: These can help compare companies with different cash and debt positions. Use the same reporting period and accounting definitions for SAP and peers.
- Scenario analysis: Test how slower growth, margin delivery, currency changes or acquisition dilution affect the earnings and cash-flow assumptions behind the price.
If comparing SAP with other software companies, align the period, currency treatment and accounting definitions. Useful comparison axes include cloud and total revenue growth, backlog growth and conversion, recurring-revenue mix, operating margins, free-cash-flow conversion, customer retention and expansion, and valuation relative to growth. The figures in this article do not supply peer values, so they do not support a ranking against competitors.

SAP’s 2025 Form 20-F identifies several risks relevant to evaluating future results. They are areas to investigate, not predictions that a particular event will occur. The filing discusses competition, technology, cloud execution, acquisitions, customer migration and renewals, and economic and political conditions.
Quick Recap
Best Value
Rank #4
- Cloud transition and customer retention: Can SAP attract new customers and retain existing ones at renewal while shifting them toward cloud subscriptions? Migration can also affect near-term revenue from on-premise licenses and maintenance.
- Backlog conversion and growth: Does current cloud backlog turn into revenue as expected, especially as the company has anticipated some deceleration in backlog growth?
- Competition and pricing: Can SAP compete with established software providers, hyperscalers and newer entrants without sacrificing growth or margins?
- Technology and product delivery: Rapid change, product defects or integration problems could affect adoption and customer confidence. Innovation investments, including AI-related products, must translate into use and returns.
- Acquisition execution: Acquisitions can bring capabilities but also integration demands and dilution; investors should watch whether they support the business without undermining execution.
- External conditions: Currency movements, global economic and political instability, and public-sector demand can influence results. The materials cited here identify broader economic and political instability as a risk, but do not quantify the company’s exposure to each factor.
A practical evaluation checklist
- Start with the business mix. Separate cloud, cloud ERP Suite, and total revenue growth; note whether each figure is reported or at constant currencies.
- Check demand and conversion. Follow current cloud backlog growth alongside cloud revenue, then assess whether renewals and customer expansion support recurring revenue.
- Test guidance against delivery. Use the latest company outlook, distinguish IFRS from non-IFRS measures, and track the effect of acquisition dilution and expected backlog deceleration.
- Review the disclosed risks. Focus on migration, customer retention, competition, product execution, acquisitions and external conditions that could alter growth or margins.
- Build a dated valuation. Obtain the relevant share price and specify currency and share class—Frankfurt ordinary shares or NYSE ADRs—then calculate valuation metrics using clearly defined financial periods and accounting measures.
- State the assumptions behind a conclusion. Explain the growth, margin, cash-flow and risk assumptions that make the valuation attractive or unattractive for a specified investment horizon.
