To evaluate Nvidia stock, connect its market value to the earnings and growth that may support it—and treat every price-based ratio as a dated snapshot, not a verdict. Start with the company’s reported results, distinguish trailing from forecast-based valuation, then test whether growth, profitability, cash generation, and business risks can justify the expectations built into the share price. The figures below reflect results through Nvidia’s fiscal 2027 second quarter, ended July 26, 2026, and market data dated October 2026.
Start with what market capitalization measures
Market capitalization is the share price multiplied by shares outstanding. It estimates the market value of a company’s common equity; it is not the value of the operating business as a whole. Because the share price changes, market capitalization is time-specific. StockAnalysis reported Nvidia market capitalization of approximately $5.78 trillion as of October 6, 2026. Treat that as a dated market-data snapshot, not a permanent company statistic. StockAnalysis market capitalization data

For comparisons between companies with different debt and cash positions, investors may also examine enterprise value. Enterprise value generally starts with market capitalization, adds debt, and subtracts cash, with conventions varying over other claims. If using it, state the calculation and date: it answers a different question from market capitalization and should not be substituted silently.
Read Nvidia’s earnings over more than one period
A single quarter can show momentum, but it does not establish a durable trend. Read the latest quarter alongside the annual filing, and note the reporting period and accounting basis for every earnings figure.

Latest reported quarter
Nvidia’s fiscal 2027 second quarter ended July 26, 2026. The company reported $96.2 billion in revenue, up 106% year over year, and diluted earnings per share of $2.46 under GAAP and $2.22 on a non-GAAP basis. These are reported company results, but the non-GAAP figure is an adjusted measure and should not be mixed with GAAP earnings as if the definitions were identical. See the Q2 fiscal 2027 earnings release and Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 26, 2026.
Annual context
For the fiscal year ended January 25, 2026, Nvidia reported $215.9 billion in revenue, a 71.1% gross margin, $130.4 billion in operating income, and diluted EPS of $4.90. Annual results help put a fast-growing quarter in context: revenue growth matters, but margins and operating income show how much of that revenue translated into profitability. Consult the FY2026 Form 10-K for the full statements, business discussion, and risk disclosures.

When comparing earnings or growth rates, check that periods and definitions match. In particular, identify whether EPS is diluted, GAAP or adjusted, and historical or estimated. An apparent change in valuation can result from changing the earnings basis rather than a change in the share price.
Interpret trailing and forward P/E correctly
The price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) relates a share price to earnings per share. A trailing P/E uses earnings already reported for a past period. A forward P/E divides the current price by forecast earnings; those estimates are not company-reported results and can change as expectations change.

| Measure | What it uses | Nvidia snapshot | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trailing P/E | Past earnings | 30.25, displayed by StockAnalysis for October 2026 | Provider-calculated and time-sensitive; confirm the earnings period and basis used. |
| Forward P/E | Forecast earnings | 19.78, displayed by StockAnalysis for October 2026 | Depends on estimates and provider methodology; it is not a reported company result. |
The figures are from StockAnalysis financial ratios. A lower forward P/E than trailing P/E may reflect expected earnings growth, but it also embeds forecast uncertainty. Do not compare a trailing multiple calculated using one earnings definition with a forward multiple based on another without accounting for that difference.
Ask whether the business can support the expectations in the price
A ratio does not determine whether a stock is fairly valued on its own. The analytical question is whether the company’s likely future results and risks support the expectations implied by its market price. Consider these factors together:

- Growth and durability: Test whether exceptional recent revenue growth can persist rather than assuming the latest rate continues.
- Profitability: Track gross margin and operating income alongside revenue to see whether growth is translating into earnings.
- Competitive position and execution: Consider competitive pressure and the effect of product transitions on the business.
- Customer demand and investment cycles: Examine demand concentration and whether customers’ investment could change over time.
- Balance sheet and cash flow: Use the filings to assess resilience, obligations, and the cash available to support operations and investment.
Nvidia’s filings discuss business drivers and risks in greater detail; the quarterly filing and annual filing are the appropriate places to examine those disclosures. Management’s description of demand is useful context, not independent proof that growth will continue. Reporting on the Q2 FY2027 results, the Associated Press quoted CEO Jensen Huang saying, “AI has reached its inflection point. It’s doing useful work. Its tokens are productive and profitable. Now, compute is revenue.” That is Huang’s characterization of demand, not a guarantee of future earnings. Associated Press coverage of Q2 FY2027 results

Use a consistent comparison, not an isolated multiple
When comparing Nvidia with its own history or with other companies, align the data before drawing conclusions. A useful comparison checks earnings growth and its durability, gross and operating profitability, trailing and forward multiples calculated on reasonably consistent earnings definitions, and balance-sheet and cash-flow resilience. Peer multiples are only meaningful when reporting periods, accounting treatments, and business mixes are reasonably comparable. The figures here do not establish a source-backed peer comparison or an intrinsic-value estimate, so they cannot by themselves show that Nvidia shares are cheap or expensive.

A practical evaluation sequence
- Fix the date. Record the share-price date and market-data provider before using market capitalization or a valuation multiple.
- Establish the earnings basis. Record the fiscal period, GAAP or non-GAAP definition, and diluted EPS basis; keep reported results separate from estimates.
- Check both quarterly and annual performance. Look at revenue growth, gross margin, operating income, and EPS across periods rather than extrapolating from one quarter.
- Label each multiple. Mark P/E as trailing or forward and note the source and date. Treat forecast-based measures as estimates, not facts.
- Test the supporting assumptions. Evaluate growth durability, profitability, competition, customer investment cycles, supply and product transitions, and financial resilience using the company’s filings.
- State what the analysis cannot establish. Without explicit assumptions and a valuation method, market capitalization and P/E figures alone do not produce a fair-value target.
