Its growth depends on a mix of sports betting, online casino, daily fantasy sports and newer products, each with different economics and regulatory constraints. Start with reported results, distinguish operating activity from earnings, then build valuation scenarios around the risks rather than relying on a single multiple or price target.
Understand what DraftKings sells and how it makes money
DraftKings describes itself as a digital sports entertainment and gaming company. Its reported products include online and retail Sportsbook, iGaming, daily fantasy sports, digital lottery courier, prediction markets and other offerings. Sports revenue includes sportsbook and prediction-market activity; the company’s measures for that activity help separate customer wagering from the revenue DraftKings reports.

- Sports Consumer Volume is the value of settled customer wagers or trades, as defined in DraftKings’ Q2 2026 release. It measures activity, not revenue or profit.
- Sports Net Revenue Margin is Sports revenue divided by Sports Consumer Volume. It indicates how much reported Sports revenue the company generated relative to that activity, but it is not a measure of overall company profitability.
- Revenue and profit reflect additional factors, including customer promotions, product mix, sports outcomes and operating costs. More wagers or users do not automatically mean more revenue or earnings.
Market access is also local rather than uniform. In its August 2026 Q2 release, DraftKings reported mobile sports betting in 27 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, representing approximately 53% of the U.S. population; iGaming was available in five states, representing approximately 11%. The company also reported sportsbook and iGaming availability in Canadian provinces representing approximately 51% of that population following an Alberta launch. These are company-reported footprint figures at the time of that release, not permanent counts or a guarantee of future access.

| Measure | Q2 2026 | Q2 2025 | What it helps assess |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sports Consumer Volume | $13.140 billion | $11.475 billion | Settled customer wagers or trades; up 14.5% year over year, but not revenue. |
| Total revenue | $1.443 billion | $1.513 billion | Reported company sales; down 4.6% year over year despite higher Sports Consumer Volume. |
| Net income (loss) attributable to common stockholders | $(67.610) million | $157.936 million income | GAAP result attributable to common stockholders. |
| Adjusted EBITDA | $114.597 million | $300.644 million | Company-defined non-GAAP measure; assess alongside the GAAP result and its reconciliation. |
| Monthly unique payers (MUPs) | 3.6 million, approximately 9% higher year over year | Not stated in the Q2 2026 release summary | Paying-customer activity; it does not by itself show how much each customer contributes. |
| Average revenue per MUP | $132, approximately 13% lower year over year | Not stated in the Q2 2026 release summary | Revenue per monthly unique payer; DraftKings attributed the decrease primarily to sports outcomes and new-customer promotions. |
The company attributed the Q2 revenue decline primarily to customer-friendly sports outcomes and increased promotional reinvestment in acquiring Sportsbook and Predictions customers. That explanation illustrates the operating questions to investigate: how much revenue activity produces, how results vary with sports outcomes, and what it costs to attract or retain customers. One quarter does not establish a lasting trend, so compare results over multiple reporting periods and examine the company’s explanations against subsequent results.
Keep the non-GAAP measure in context. Adjusted EBITDA is not a substitute for GAAP net income or loss, and it does not by itself establish cash generation. Review DraftKings’ definition and reconciliation in the Q2 release, then compare the adjusted figure with GAAP results, cash flows, stock-based compensation, interest and other costs disclosed in its filings.

Use the annual figures as a broader baseline
DraftKings’ FY2025 investor-relations headline figures were 10.9 million customers, $6.1 billion in revenue and $620 million in adjusted EBITDA. These are company-reported figures; use the FY2025 10-K for audited results, definitions, reconciliations and further detail rather than treating the headline measures as a complete profitability picture.
Test guidance and growth plans as forecasts, not results
In its August 2026 Q2 release, management maintained FY2026 guidance of $6.5 billion to $6.9 billion in revenue and $700 million to $900 million in adjusted EBITDA. Those ranges are projections, not achieved results. Compare later reported performance with the ranges and assess whether the assumptions behind them—such as customer activity, promotions, sports outcomes and market access—are holding.
DraftKings’ March 2026 announcement described a proposed DraftKings Sports & Casino Super App intended to bring together Sportsbook, Predictions, Casino and Lottery through a phased integration. Management also stated an expectation of at least a 30% long-term adjusted EBITDA margin and described an expected $55 billion to $80 billion 2030 industry gross-revenue opportunity. These are forward-looking management statements, not independently established forecasts or realized company results.
To judge whether the plan deserves a place in your assumptions, look for evidence of execution: launch timing, customer retention, cross-selling, acquisition costs, promotional levels and unit economics. An app combining products is not, by itself, proof that customers will use more products or that the company will earn higher margins.

Build a valuation instead of relying on one ratio
A price-to-sales or enterprise-value-to-revenue multiple can help frame expectations, but neither tells you whether the shares are attractive without assumptions about future growth, profitability, cash generation and dilution. Use a consistent market-data date: share price and share count affect market capitalization, while debt and cash affect enterprise value.

Record the latest share price and use a fully diluted share count from a consistent date. Calculate market capitalization from those inputs, then calculate enterprise value using the corresponding debt and cash figures.
- Choose a small set of measures. Compare revenue multiples with growth expectations, but also examine GAAP earnings, operating cash flow, adjusted EBITDA and the reconciliation between adjusted and reported results. Include stock-based compensation, debt, interest and changes in share count rather than treating them as peripheral details.
- Make the operating assumptions explicit. Estimate customer retention, promotional spending, sports outcomes, iGaming contribution, potential state launches, taxes and prediction-market economics. Identify which assumptions drive revenue and which determine conversion into profit and cash.
- Model downside, base and upside cases. Change the key assumptions rather than applying an unexplained discount or premium to one headline multiple. Consider what happens if growth slows, promotions remain high, sports outcomes reduce revenue conversion, or market access and taxes constrain margins.
- Compare peers only after checking comparability. Differences in geography, product mix, licensing, profitability and regulation can make operators’ headline valuation multiples poor one-to-one comparisons.

Connect the main risks to the business model
DraftKings’ FY2025 10-K identifies risks that can affect both results and the assumptions investors use to value the company. Consider how each could change revenue, margins, cash needs or the range of possible outcomes:
- Legal access, licenses, taxes and market structure: jurisdiction-specific rules can determine whether DraftKings can enter a market and what economics are available there. Expansion depends on jurisdictions becoming accessible and economically beneficial; more legal markets do not automatically mean attractive returns.
- Sports outcomes and hold rates: customer results can affect revenue relative to betting activity. A favorable or unfavorable stretch can obscure the underlying trend, so examine results over time and distinguish volume from revenue conversion.
- Competition and customer spending: competition for attention and discretionary spending can pressure retention or require more promotional investment, weakening the economics of customer acquisition.
- Technology, privacy and cybersecurity: reliable service and protection of customer information are necessary to operate digital wagering products; failures can disrupt operations and create regulatory or financial consequences.
- Capital structure and governance: the filing flags volatility in the Class A stock and controlled-company governance. Review the filing’s description of these risks alongside debt, dilution and the rights associated with the shares.
- Forecast uncertainty: management projections rely on assumptions and may differ materially from actual outcomes. Treat guidance and long-range targets as scenarios to test, not as guaranteed inputs.
Use a repeatable checklist before making a decision
- Separate customer activity, revenue, GAAP earnings and cash flow; do not treat one as a proxy for the others.
- Check whether customer growth is accompanied by sustainable revenue per customer and reasonable promotional costs.
- Review the company’s current jurisdiction footprint, regulatory exposure and tax economics using its latest filings and releases.
- Compare management guidance with reported results over time, and distinguish realized performance from product plans and long-term targets.
- Recalculate valuation with current market data and explicit downside, base and upside assumptions.
- For a peer comparison, account for differences in business mix, geography, regulation, profitability, debt and dilution.
The evidence available here does not establish DraftKings’ intrinsic value or support a universal buy-or-sell conclusion. The decision depends on whether your own assumptions about growth, margins, regulation and valuation are defensible and whether the downside case fits your risk tolerance.
