Evaluate an AI SOC platform against the work your security operations center actually performs—not a feature list. Check which tasks it can automate, what data and actions its integrations expose, and whether analysts can inspect, approve, correct, and stop its activity. Then test it on representative cases using success measures agreed in advance. Microsoft Security Copilot offers documented examples of these capabilities, but vendor documentation is not independent evidence that a platform improves detection or response.
Start with the SOC work you need the platform to handle
List recurring tasks before comparing products. Common candidates include alert triage, incident investigation, enrichment, threat-intelligence gathering, reporting, and approved remediation. For each task, write down the trigger, required context, expected output, tools involved, and any action an analyst must approve.

Ask each vendor to demonstrate the complete workflow, from trigger through result. Distinguish a feature that helps an analyst interactively from one that runs repeatedly or starts automatically. Record whether it is manually started, interactive, event-triggered, or scheduled, and identify where human review is required.
Separate assistance from automation
A prompt that drafts an investigation summary is not equivalent to an agent that runs when an alert arrives and invokes tools. Confirm what the system actually does in your intended configuration: what it reads, what it can change, and whether the action is proposed or executed.

- Use tools like the Beat Maker and Midi Creator.
- Work efficiently by using Bookmarks and tools like Effect Chain, which allow you to apply multiple effects at a time
- Use one of the many other NCH multimedia applications that are integrated with MixPad.
Microsoft’s Security Copilot documentation makes distinctions useful as questions for any vendor, though the product names and capabilities are specific to Microsoft:
- Prompts: interactive requests for assistance.
- Promptbooks: reusable sequences of prompts for multi-step work.
- Agents: designed for automation and repeatable tasks, with behavior ranging from prompt-and-response to semi-autonomous workflows under human oversight.
- Plugins: connections to services that can provide data or actions.
- Connectors: can trigger agents, run prompts, or start automation workflows. Microsoft also documents Logic Apps and Copilot Studio connectors for submitting prompts or promptbooks into workflows.
Ask for the trigger, repeatability, inputs, tools, outputs, and approval points for every demonstrated workflow. A polished demonstration is not enough if it omits the handoff or the conditions under which the automation stops.
Evaluate integrations by usable data and actions
Make an inventory of the systems your SOC relies on: SIEM, endpoint and identity tools, threat intelligence, ticketing, SOAR or other workflow automation, and cloud services. For each required connection, establish what information the platform can read and what actions it can call. A logo or connector count does not show whether the integration supports the data and workflow you need.

Microsoft describes Security Copilot plugins as connecting to Microsoft and non-Microsoft services through APIs to provide data or actions. Its documented integrations include Defender XDR, Sentinel, Intune, Entra, Purview, and supported third-party services. Microsoft also says products integrated with Security Copilot must be purchased separately. These are product-specific examples; verify the current integration depth and dependencies for each platform you assess.
Make analyst oversight part of the workflow
For each automation, determine what an analyst can inspect before, during, and after it runs. Look for visibility into the evidence used, tools invoked, rationale available in the product, and proposed or completed actions. Analysts should be able to review source material and outputs, correct errors, provide feedback, and pause an agent.
Set an approval boundary for consequential changes—for example, disabling an account, isolating an endpoint, or changing a policy. Decide which actions can be suggested, which can be executed only after approval, and whether any are permitted to run automatically. Check whether a completed action can be reversed and who is authorized to approve it.

Microsoft’s Security Copilot application card cautions that AI-generated responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, biased, or misaligned with the user’s goal, and says users should review and verify responses before acting. Its planning guidance recommends transparency about sources, memory, limitations, and the tools or data informing an action, as well as safeguards against overreliance. Treat those as minimum questions for a vendor demonstration, not as proof that every output will be correct.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck identity, permissions, and governance in configuration
Ask the vendor to show the actual configuration for agent identity, permissions, triggers, plugins, required products, and role-based access control. Determine whether an agent acts under a dedicated identity or inherits a user’s identity; those choices have different access implications. Check that permissions follow least privilege and that the access granted is limited to the agent’s assigned work.
Verify how the product handles role separation, approvals, and auditability: who can create or edit an agent, grant it access, approve its actions, review its activity, and disable it? Confirm the approval path for any tenant-wide or administrator-level setup. In Microsoft’s documentation, some partner-built agents that access Microsoft tools or data require tenant Global Administrator approval. That requirement is specific to those configurations, not a general rule for AI SOC products.

Compare platforms with one consistent evaluation matrix
Use the same criteria and representative cases for every product. This framework organizes the questions; it is not a validated scoring model. Avoid numerical weights or claims of a market winner unless you have comparable, controlled evidence to support them.
| Evaluation area | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Workflow coverage | Fit to your tasks, repeatability, trigger types, outputs, and range of available actions. |
| Integration fit | Required systems, accessible data, callable actions, authentication, permissions, and workflow handoffs. |
| Human control | Evidence visibility, approval gates, feedback, reversibility, and pause controls. |
| Governance | Agent identity, least privilege, role-based access, auditability, data handling, and vendor transparency. |
| Operating fit | Deployment and product dependencies, compute or usage model, token and context limits, and unsupported scenarios. |
| Demonstrated results | Performance on your representative cases, measured using pre-agreed criteria and human-reviewed outcomes. |
Run a proof of value on representative cases
Choose a workload that reflects real SOC conditions, such as alert triage or investigation. Define success measures before the demonstration, then use the same cases and review process for each platform. Possible measures include analyst handling time, the proportion of cases needing correction, escalation quality, and the rate of inappropriate actions. These are candidate measures, not published outcome figures.
- Define the workload: Specify its start condition, required evidence, systems involved, expected result, and permitted actions.
- Agree on measures: Set a baseline and decide how each measure will be recorded and human-reviewed. Avoid changing the criteria after seeing a vendor’s result.
- Test ordinary and difficult cases: Include incomplete or conflicting context and situations where the correct outcome is to request review rather than take action.
- Inspect the trace: Review evidence used, tools called, approvals, errors, and any actions taken. Record whether the analyst could understand and correct the result.
- Document constraints: Capture unsupported scenarios, setup dependencies, usage limits, permission requirements, and any manual work needed to complete the task.
Microsoft’s planning guidance recommends defining success metrics such as reduced triage time or improved detection accuracy, but the documentation does not report independent measured results for those examples. Treat vendor statements about intended benefits as claims to test, not established outcomes.
Best Value
Include operating limits and purchasing dependencies
Confirm the commercial and technical conditions needed to run the workflows you tested. For Microsoft Security Copilot, the documentation says agents use Security Compute Units (SCUs), integrated products require separate purchase, and token limits can affect results when prompts, sessions, or plugin output are large. Its FAQ also says IoT/OT recommendations are not currently supported. These details may change; verify current terms, capacity, and supported scenarios with the vendor before making a decision.
Apply the same scrutiny to other platforms: check deployment prerequisites, usage or compute consumption, context limits, product dependencies, and gaps in coverage. A capability that depends on an unbudgeted service, unavailable data source, or unsupported scenario may not be usable in your SOC.
Separate capability descriptions from evidence of results
Vendor documentation can establish what a product is designed to do and how the vendor says it is configured. It does not, by itself, prove that the product reduces workload, accelerates response, or improves detection. Base outcome claims on evaluations that specify the measured task, sample, methodology, comparison conditions, and results. When that evidence is unavailable, report what your own controlled proof of value showed—and its limits—rather than generalizing from a product description.
