Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsVerify the exact cloud service offering in the FedRAMP Marketplace, review the security package for the scope and responsibilities that matter to your planned use, and then make a separate agency authorization decision. A provider’s FedRAMP certification is reusable security evidence—not your agency’s authorization to operate (ATO).
Start with the agency’s planned use
Before assessing a vendor’s claim, describe how the service would be used. FedRAMP scope depends on the use case, and only a federal agency can determine whether its use of a cloud service falls within that scope. FedRAMP puts it this way: “Only a federal agency can determine if their use case for a cloud service falls within the scope of FedRAMP.” (FedRAMP, Using a FedRAMP Certified Cloud Service.)

Record the information the service will handle, the intended features and deployment model, the agency tenant, necessary integrations, and the agency system in which the service will operate. Consider whether it handles sensitive federal information, needs agency-specific administration, connects to enterprise security services, or may be reused by multiple agencies. Mixed answers call for closer scope analysis rather than a quick assumption.
Verify the exact Marketplace listing and its status
Search the FedRAMP Marketplace for both the provider and the specific cloud service offering. A company-wide claim does not establish that every product, version, deployment model, or feature is covered. Inspect the offering details and confirm the current status before finalizing an agreement; status can change.

Review the service description and included services, certification class, authorization details, agency users, independent assessor, and annual assessment date. Check that the listed boundary covers the features and deployment model your agency plans to use. The Marketplace guide states plainly: “FedRAMP does not grant ATOs.” (FedRAMP Marketplace Quick Start Guide.)
Do not confuse a Marketplace listing or an “In Process” designation with certification. FedRAMP’s 2026 listing guidance describes initial implementation listings for providers preparing for certification, subject to requirements concerning intended use, progress, and assessment scheduling. Read the record’s status and disclosures, not just its presence in search results. (FedRAMP Marketplace listing guidance.)
Request and inspect the security package
Use the package-request process linked from the Marketplace listing to obtain the secure documentation. For Rev5 materials, look for the package overview, security decision record, control implementation and inheritance information, assessment results and artifacts, secure configuration guide, and ongoing certification data. The Marketplace guide describes the listing and package request process (FedRAMP Marketplace Quick Start Guide); FedRAMP’s package guidance explains the package materials (Rev5 package guidance).

Trace the boundary and data flows
Identify which products, features, deployment models, and supporting services are inside the assessed boundary. Note third-party information resources and data flows, and identify anything your planned use depends on that sits outside the boundary. A package about one offering should not be treated as evidence for another offering or an excluded capability.
Separate provider controls from customer responsibilities
Review which controls the provider implements, which are inherited from other services, and which the agency must configure, operate, monitor, or supply. Use the secure configuration instructions to identify settings and operational tasks required for your deployment. The package describes protections for the provider’s service boundary; the agency’s own security plan must describe how the service is configured, integrated, monitored, and authorized within the agency system.
Read assessment findings alongside current risk information
Examine independent assessment results, known risks, corrective actions, and current certification information. Consider whether the evidence is sufficient for the agency’s information sensitivity, mission, architecture, integrations, and risk tolerance. A certification class indicates the kind and rigor of available certification information; it is not, by itself, a risk verdict for your system.

Make an agency-specific authorization decision
FedRAMP certifications make common security evidence reusable, but each agency authorizes its own federal information system and accepts risk for its particular use. The agency must document its implementation and responsibilities, decide whether the offering and configuration are suitable, and complete its own ATO or other applicable authorization before use. (FedRAMP, Using a FedRAMP Certified Cloud Service.)
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Compare the package with the actual agency system: its information, integrations, required settings, control inheritance, known risks, and operational capacity. If comparing offerings, use the same criteria for each:
- Boundary and features covered by the package.
- Current certification status and class.
- Independent assessment evidence, risks, and corrective actions.
- Controls inherited from the provider versus tasks left to the agency.
- Secure-configuration effort and monitoring visibility.
- Fit with the agency mission, architecture, and risk tolerance.
Plan for continued monitoring and changes
Authorization is not a one-time check. Set a risk-appropriate process to review current certification reports, vulnerability information, quarterly reviews, significant changes, and incident-related information. Clarify who supplies each item, how quickly it is shared, and which provider and agency contacts handle escalation. FedRAMP’s monitoring guidance describes ongoing monitoring information and activities (FedRAMP continuous monitoring guidance).

If package information conflicts with the agency’s findings or a significant concern remains, work with the provider and coordinate with the agency’s FedRAMP liaison. Reassess the agency system when changes affect its boundary, configuration, dependencies, or risk.
Interpret an “Authorized” label with context
An offering may remain on the Marketplace as Authorized after it loses active agency customers if it continues required monitoring while seeking another ATO. FedRAMP says such cases carry a disclosure that there is no federal monitoring oversight. Treat that disclosure as material: conduct an independent review and provide a risk briefing rather than relying on the label alone. (FedRAMP Help Center, updated July 22, 2026.)
Quick Recap
Use a practical approval checklist
- The planned agency use and scope have been described and assessed.
- The precise offering, features, and deployment model match the Marketplace record and package boundary.
- The current status, class, authorization details, assessor, and assessment date have been reviewed.
- The package’s controls, inheritance, assessment evidence, configuration guidance, risks, and customer duties have been evaluated.
- The agency has documented its own implementation and accepted the risk through its applicable authorization before use.
- Monitoring deliverables, change notifications, and incident escalation responsibilities are agreed and operational.
