Samsung documents a built-in Privacy Display on the Galaxy S26 Ultra; on that phone, enable it in Settings or from the Quick Panel. Other Android privacy settings can hide lock-screen notifications or manage app access, but they do not block people beside you from seeing the screen.
Check whether your phone has a side-view privacy display
First confirm the exact make and model. Samsung identifies the Galaxy S26 Ultra as having built-in Privacy Display; that does not mean the same feature is available across Android phones. On other models, search Settings for “Privacy Display” or check the manufacturer’s current support instructions for your model and software version.

Menu labels and availability can vary by software version and region. If the option is missing, do not assume that a similarly named privacy or security setting limits the screen’s viewing angle.
Turn on Privacy Display on the Galaxy S26 Ultra
- Open Settings and find Privacy Display. Samsung’s regional instructions place it under Display.
- Turn on Privacy Display.
- Alternatively, open the Quick Panel and tap the Privacy Display control, if it is available there.
- Review the available conditions and customization options. Samsung describes options related to entering sensitive password information and limiting visibility for popup notifications; its regional guidance also describes app-specific activation. The exact choices may differ by software version.
- Check the screen from the angles and in the lighting where you expect to use it. Do not assume that sensitive information is fully concealed.
What the feature does—and what it cannot guarantee
Samsung describes Privacy Display as display hardware that controls how pixels disperse light to limit peripheral vision. It can be switched off, restoring the display’s full viewing range. Samsung also warns that image quality may change outside the viewing range and that some information can remain visible depending on the viewing environment, angle, or brightness. It reduces casual side viewing; it is not a guarantee against shoulder surfing.

If your Android phone does not have the feature
Reduce exposure from notifications and apps
On Pixel phones, Google documents privacy controls under Settings > Privacy, including Notifications on lock screen, Permission manager, and Privacy Dashboard. These settings help control what appears on the lock screen and which apps can access data; they do not optically restrict the screen’s viewing angle. Google notes that steps may vary by device.
Consider an exact-model screen protector
A physical privacy screen protector may provide side-angle filtering on a phone without built-in hardware. Check that it fits the exact model and review the maker’s documentation for effects on brightness, clarity, touch response, and fingerprint-reader access. Compatibility and performance are not universal, and a protector may make the screen harder to read from the front.

Samsung says aftermarket stick-on covers can permanently reduce brightness and clarity and degrade touch responsiveness. That is manufacturer guidance, not an independent comparative test, so evaluate the documentation for the specific protector you are considering.
