Quick path: Open Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Zoom > Larger Text > Done > Use Zoomed. Display Zoom enlarges the iPhone’s overall interface—controls, icons, buttons and supported text—not just the font. The menu is not available on every model or iOS release, so use the alternatives below if you do not see it.
Turn on Display Zoom
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display & Brightness.
- Tap Display Zoom.
- Select Larger Text.
- Tap Done.
- Tap Use Zoomed to confirm.
Apple documents this sequence in its current iPhone guide: Adjust iPhone display and text settings. The enlarged layout remains active until you select the device’s standard/default option from the same screen.
Because elements occupy more space, you may see fewer items at once. Individual third-party apps can also lay out their screens differently, depending on how well they support Apple’s interface and text-sizing systems.
Does it work on iPhone 17, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro?
On an iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro, open Display & Brightness and check whether Display Zoom appears. Apple’s current display documentation covers these model families, but its user guide does not provide a complete model-by-model compatibility table. Availability and labels can vary with the installed iOS version, so do not assume that every iPhone has the control.

Display Zoom, Larger Text and Accessibility Zoom compared
| Feature | What it changes | Where to find it | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display Zoom | Persistent enlargement of the general system interface and supported elements | Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Zoom | Everything—controls, icons and text—feels too small |
| Larger Text | Increases text in areas and apps that support Apple’s text-sizing features | Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text | Words are too small but the standard layout is acceptable |
| Accessibility Zoom | Magnifies the full screen or a movable window, with gesture controls | Settings > Accessibility > Zoom | You need much stronger or selective magnification |
Accessibility Zoom is separate from Display Zoom. It offers Full Screen Zoom or Window Zoom, along with options such as Zoom Region, Zoom Filter, Follow Focus, Smart Typing and a maximum zoom level. Apple explains these controls in Zoom in on the iPhone screen.
Make text larger, heavier or easier to distinguish
Larger Text and additional sizes
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text. Turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes to reveal additional slider levels, then adjust the size. Supported apps can respond to these settings, but an app that does not fully support Dynamic Type may wrap, truncate or rearrange labels. See Apple’s display and text size preferences.
Bold Text
In the same Display & Text Size area, turn on Bold Text when characters are difficult to distinguish but do not need to be physically larger.

Contrast, transparency and other visual aids
- Increase Contrast strengthens separation between foreground and background.
- Reduce Transparency makes translucent or blurred surfaces more solid.
- Button Shapes or Show Borders, where offered by your iOS version, make controls easier to identify.
- Dark Mode may be more comfortable for some readers.
On iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air, Apple also documents Display Pulse Smoothing. It is a separate display-comfort option, not a zoom setting: Apple’s display color guide.
If Display Zoom is missing
- Confirm that you checked Display & Brightness, not Accessibility > Zoom.
- Install the latest iOS version available for your iPhone and check the menu again; labels and availability can differ by release.
- Use Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text. Enable Larger Accessibility Sizes if needed.
- For stronger magnification, use Settings > Accessibility > Zoom.
A very old or unsupported model may not offer Display Zoom. A work- or school-managed (supervised) iPhone can also have display choices restricted during setup; Apple describes this possibility in its deployment documentation.
Turn Display Zoom off
- Open Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Zoom.
- Select the standard or default layout option shown on your iPhone.
- Tap Done and confirm the change.
Apple’s wording for the standard choice can vary by iOS release, so select the non-enlarged option actually displayed on your device rather than relying on an older label such as “Standard.”
When the entire screen suddenly looks huge
This is usually Accessibility Zoom, not Display Zoom. Immediately double-tap the screen with three fingers to zoom out. After you can navigate, go to Settings > Accessibility > Zoom and turn it off, or adjust its region and maximum level. Apple documents the gesture and controls in its Zoom guide.

If the Home Screen remains too magnified to operate, Apple’s recovery instructions explain how to change accessibility settings through Finder on a Mac, or iTunes on older macOS and Windows setups: If your Home Screen icons are magnified.
Choose the setting that matches the problem
- Everything is too small: Display Zoom.
- Only reading text is too small: Larger Text, with Larger Accessibility Sizes if necessary.
- Text needs stronger definition: Bold Text, Increase Contrast or Reduce Transparency.
- You need extreme or selective magnification: Accessibility Zoom; Window Zoom is useful when only part of the screen should be enlarged.
You can also add Apple’s Text Size control to Control Center and adjust text while using a supported app. This changes text sizing, not the overall Display Zoom layout: Make text easier to read on iPhone.

Does Display Zoom change the iPhone’s resolution?
Apple’s user-facing documentation describes an enlarged interface layout; it does not establish a general claim that Display Zoom changes the phone’s physical display resolution.
Can Display Zoom and Larger Text be used together?
Yes, where both controls are available. Combining them can produce a very large or awkward layout, and some apps may wrap or truncate text.

Does Display Zoom enlarge every app identically?
No. System screens and supported elements enlarge, while third-party apps can respond differently depending on their layout and text-support implementation.
Is Display Zoom the same as the Zoom setting under Accessibility?
No. Display Zoom is a persistent layout choice under Display & Brightness. Accessibility Zoom is a magnification tool under Accessibility that can be toggled and moved with gestures.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose content when Display Zoom is enabled?
The enlarged layout uses more screen space, so fewer items may be visible at once; scrolling and app-specific layout behavior can vary.
Why does my app ignore Larger Text?
Text-size controls depend on app support. An app that does not fully implement Apple’s text-sizing system may not enlarge all labels or may rearrange them.
The Bottom Line
Use Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Zoom > Larger Text > Done > Use Zoomed when you want the whole supported interface to appear larger. Choose Larger Text for text alone, and Accessibility Zoom for powerful or selective magnification.
