A successful command reports that the rule was updated to true, and players should then see a coordinate box at the top-left of the game screen. To hide the display again, use gamerule showcoordinates false.

Bedrock also has a client-side Show Coordinates option in the game settings. That route is useful when an individual player needs the display and no server-console change is appropriate. The two methods have different scopes, permissions and version caveats, so the sections below explain when to use each one.

showcoordinates is a Bedrock-exclusive game rule. When it is active, Minecraft places a coordinate readout in a box at the top-left of the screen. The Minecraft Wiki lists the rule’s default as true, but another current search result describes coordinates as disabled by default on Bedrock. Because that default is not consistently reported, explicitly setting the rule is safer than relying on a newly created world’s initial state.
The setting can be changed in two places:
- Server-side: an administrator changes the game rule from the hosting panel’s console. This is the central setting to try when a managed Bedrock server should expose coordinates for everyone.
- Client-side: a player turns on Show Coordinates in that player’s game settings. This is a per-player preference and does not require changing the server rule.
Bedrock has used both showcoordinates and showCoordinates in published examples. Use the lowercase, one-word form shown in the command above. The available evidence does not establish whether every Bedrock release treats capitalization as interchangeable, so do not insert spaces, hyphens or other punctuation into the rule name.

Method 1: Enable coordinates from the server console
This is the normal method for a dedicated or hosted Bedrock server. You need access to the server’s live console or control panel. The panel must show the server as running before it can accept a command.
Step 1: Open the live console
Sign in to the service that runs the Bedrock server and open its Console, Live Console or similarly named command window. Confirm that the status is Running. A stopped server cannot apply a game rule, and a command entered into a log viewer or chat box may not be sent to the server at all.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteStep 2: Enter the rule without a slash
Paste the command from the introduction exactly as written. In a server console, do not add the leading slash used by in-game chat. The rule name is one word: showcoordinates. There must be one space between gamerule, the rule name and true.
Step 3: Submit it and read the response
Press the console’s submit or Enter control. A successful response should indicate that the rule was updated to true. Treat that acknowledgement as the first verification point; if the panel reports an error, use the troubleshooting section rather than assuming the display changed.
Step 4: Check from a Bedrock client
Join the server with a Bedrock player and look at the top-left corner for the coordinate box. If it is not visible, check the player’s Show Coordinates setting as well. Client-side settings can affect what an individual player sees, although the available guides do not establish exactly how every current client combines that option with the server rule.
Step 5: Turn the rule off when needed
To hide coordinates through the server rule, submit gamerule showcoordinates false in the same console. The server should report that the value changed to false. This reverses the server-side change; it does not document how a player’s local setting will be represented on every Bedrock platform.

Method 2: Use the Bedrock Show Coordinates setting
The Minecraft Wiki’s Coordinates page identifies an in-game alternative: turn on Show Coordinates from the game settings screen. This route is appropriate when one player wants a coordinate readout without asking a server administrator to change a shared rule.
Step 1: Open Settings
From the Bedrock main menu or while paused in a world, open Settings. Menu placement can differ slightly by platform and release, so use the settings search or the section labeled Game if your interface is arranged differently.
Step 2: Find Show Coordinates
In the game-related settings, locate the toggle labeled Show Coordinates. Turn it on, then return to the world. The coordinate box should appear at the top-left of the screen.
Step 3: Apply the preference to the right player
This setting is controlled by the client. Each player who wants the readout should check that player’s own setting. If the server rule is enabled but one player still cannot see coordinates, inspect this toggle before changing server permissions or repeatedly reissuing commands.

The settings route does not replace the server-console route for an administrator who wants a central rule value. Conversely, a player who only needs a personal display may not need console access at all.
Server rule versus client setting
The two routes solve similar problems but operate at different levels. Use this comparison when deciding which one to change first.

Because client override behavior has not been verified across current Bedrock versions, treat a disagreement between the server rule and a player’s screen as a configuration issue to diagnose, not proof that the command failed.
Permissions, cheats and Bedrock version history
Why permission advice differs
Hosting guides commonly say that operator rights or cheats are needed to run the game-rule command. The Minecraft Wiki’s history for this rule says that showing coordinates stopped requiring cheats as of beta 1.8.0.8. Those statements are not fully consistent, and a hosting panel can impose its own operator check even when the game itself no longer requires cheats for this feature.
The practical rule is cautious: an operator or server administrator may be required on your server. If the console rejects the command, verify your role and the server’s cheat or command policy before changing anything else. Do not assume that a permission error proves the rule name is wrong.
What changed after beta 1.8.0.8
The beta-history note matters if you are following an old tutorial. Earlier Bedrock builds may have treated coordinate display differently, while later builds no longer required cheats according to that history entry. Current behavior can still vary by release and host configuration, so check the release notes for the exact Bedrock version running on the server when a documented step behaves differently.
Do not infer a universal default
The Wiki’s rule listing gives true as the default, but a separate search result reports the opposite. This medium-confidence conflict is why an explicit command is preferable for a server you control. It also explains why two newly created worlds can appear to behave differently without either owner having manually changed the setting.

The panel says the server is offline
Return to the hosting dashboard and wait until the status is Running. Then reopen the live console and submit the rule. A command entered while the process is stopped cannot update the world.
The console rejects the command immediately
- Remove a leading slash. In the server console, submit the command as plain text rather than the chat form used inside the game.
- Check that
gameruleandshowcoordinatesare spelled correctly and that the rule name contains no spaces or hyphens. - Confirm that the final argument is the Boolean value
true, not a word such asonor a number. - Check whether your account has operator or administrator rights and whether this host requires cheats for game-rule commands. Permission requirements are reported inconsistently for this rule.
The console accepts it but no coordinate box appears
First look for the server’s acknowledgement that the value became true. If there is no acknowledgement, the command may have been entered into the wrong panel field. If there is an acknowledgement, join with a Bedrock client and inspect the player’s Show Coordinates toggle. The available guidance also mentions that client-side options can override a server setting, but that behavior has not been verified for every platform, so treat it as a possible explanation rather than a universal rule.
Only one player cannot see coordinates
Have that player open the game settings and enable Show Coordinates. Because the setting is per client, another player’s visible display does not prove that this player’s local option is enabled.
The rule appears to revert
Record the exact response shown by the console and check which world or server instance was active when you issued the command. A multi-world panel can expose more than one console context, and changing one context does not establish that another world was changed. The supplied guidance does not document a universal persistence or restart rule, so do not assume that stopping, starting or reinstalling the app is required. If a host specifically advises a full Minecraft app restart, try it only after confirming the rule value and client setting.
The command works on one release but not another
Check the Bedrock version on both the server and the connecting client. The rule’s permission behavior changed during the beta period, and capitalization examples differ between references. Apply the lowercase spelling, review current release notes, and ask the server host whether its console applies additional command restrictions.

Use this short checklist after making a change or handing instructions to another administrator:
Best Value
- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
- Confirm the server panel reports Running.
- Open the actual live console, not a read-only log.
- Submit the lowercase, one-word rule without a slash.
- Read the response and verify that the value is reported as
true. - Join from Bedrock and look for the coordinate box at the top-left.
- If one player lacks the display, check that player’s Show Coordinates setting.
- If coordinates should be hidden again, submit the same rule with
falseand verify the server’s response.
This sequence separates a server-side value, a permission problem and a client display preference. It also gives you a concrete response to record when asking a hosting provider for help.
Which method should you choose?
Choose the console when you manage the server
Use the server rule when you need a central change, have console access and want the world configuration to be explicit. It is also the only route in this guide that lets an administrator set the rule value directly rather than relying on each player’s local menu.
Choose Settings when you are a player without admin access
Use the in-game toggle when your goal is simply to display coordinates on your own Bedrock client. It avoids requesting an operator role and does not require entering a command in the hosting panel.
Use both when their results disagree
If an administrator has set the rule to true but a particular player still sees no readout, verify the local toggle and the player’s platform version. If the local toggle is on but the server rejects the command, return to the permission, spelling and console-status checks instead of repeatedly toggling the client option.
Keeping the procedure current
Coordinate display is a built-in Bedrock feature rather than a plug-in, but its default value, command permissions, capitalization conventions and interaction with client settings can change with Bedrock updates or hosting-panel policies. The reliable, version-conscious practice is to set the value explicitly, note the exact acknowledgement, and check current release notes when a newer server build changes the result.
