PS5 graphics settings are split between the console’s video output options and each game’s own graphics menu. Start at Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output to configure resolution, HDR, VRR, and 120 Hz output. For modes such as Fidelity, Performance, or ray tracing, check the individual game’s settings; those options vary by game.
Before changing PS5 graphics settings
Check what your TV or monitor supports, then open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output. This screen reports the current video output signal and provides the main console-level picture settings. PlayStation says the console detects a TV’s capabilities and automatically selects the best available resolution. PlayStation’s resolution guide explains the available controls.
Change one setting at a time. If the picture becomes unstable, restore the previous value and check the reported output signal before troubleshooting further.
Choose a resolution and refresh rate
Resolution
Leave Resolution on Automatic to select the highest resolution the connected display supports, or choose a fixed resolution if you need to test a specific output. If you use a 1440p display, select 1440p, then choose Test 1440p Output to check which SDR/HDR, 60/120 Hz, and VRR combinations work with that display.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
120 Hz Output
Enable 120 Hz Output only when both the display and the game support 120 Hz. A compatible screen alone does not make every game run at 120 frames per second; the game must offer that frame-rate mode. If a monitor or other display has output problems in games using 120 Hz, turn the option off while diagnosing the issue.
Set up HDR for the content you play
Go to Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > HDR. Choose On When Supported to use HDR for compatible games and apps while leaving non-HDR content in SDR. Choose Always On if you want the PS5 to convert non-HDR content to HDR output as well; the result may not look the same as content made for HDR.
Use Adjust HDR in the Video Output menu and follow the on-screen calibration. The console supports HDR, but the visible result depends on the connected display and setup. See PlayStation’s HDR setup instructions.

Enable VRR and ALLM when compatible
Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
Turn on VRR if your TV and the game support it. VRR synchronizes the display’s refresh behavior with supported gameplay output; it is a compatibility feature, not a universal image-quality or frame-rate upgrade. Results can differ by TV.
The optional Apply to Unsupported Games setting may stabilize frame rate in games that do not officially support VRR, according to PlayStation. If a game behaves unexpectedly, turn this option off. PlayStation’s PS5 features page describes VRR and related features.
Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM)
On a supported TV, ALLM can switch the TV into its low-latency mode while gaming. VRR output may also activate low-latency mode even when ALLM is set to Off. To fully disable ALLM behavior, turn VRR off as well. Compatibility depends on the connected equipment and current system software.

Leave advanced signal settings alone unless troubleshooting
Video Transfer Rate
Keep Video Transfer Rate at Auto unless you are investigating flicker or another signal problem. PlayStation suggests trying -1 or -2 if the screen flickers. These settings limit some high-bandwidth output modes, including 4K/120 Hz and certain 4K color formats; at -2, 4K at 50/60 Hz uses YUV420.
Deep Color Output and RGB Range
Deep Color Output enables smoother image rendering, but changing HDMI color settings is not a routine picture enhancement. PlayStation advises changing RGB Range only if the HDMI device is not communicating RGB range information correctly.

Some advanced options are limited to the CFI-7000 model group. On supported consoles, Enhance PSSR Image Quality is on by default and improves image quality in certain compatible games. PS4 game image enhancement is also limited to this model group and requires a 4K or 1440p screen.

8K output is likewise limited to that model group and requires an 8K/60 Hz display with DSC. VRR is disabled while the console outputs 8K. These are conditional capabilities, not settings available on every PS5 or every display.

- Confirm the display supports the mode. Check its specifications and install any available TV firmware update.
- Use the right HDMI connection. Try the included PS5 HDMI cable first. If needed, use an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable rated for 4K/120 Hz.
- Connect directly to the TV. Bypass a receiver, switch, or other equipment that could limit the signal, and use a TV HDMI port that supports the mode.
- Check the TV’s HDMI setting. Consult its manual; some TVs require a setting to be enabled for the relevant HDMI capability.
- Review PS5 output settings. Check the selected resolution and, if the screen flickers, try the Video Transfer Rate troubleshooting options.
For a flicker problem, the -1 or -2 transfer-rate options can improve signal stability but may restrict high-bandwidth formats. Choose the least restrictive setting that resolves the issue.
Choose settings based on your display and game
There is no single best graphics configuration for every PS5 setup. Use the options your display and games actually support: resolution first, then the desired refresh rate, HDR behavior, and VRR. Model-specific enhancements matter only if you have an eligible console and display. If changing a setting causes instability, return it to its previous value and test the HDMI signal path before making further changes.
