What AMD FSR 4 is called now
AMD has renamed FSR 4 to FSR Upscaling. It is part of the broader FSR “Redstone” suite, which includes additional features. Some game menus may still use the older name, FSR 4. AMD says the new name distinguishes upscaling from the other features in Redstone.

The label alone does not tell you which setup route a game uses. Some games provide native ML-based FSR integration in their own settings; for others, AMD Software can upgrade a qualifying existing FSR integration. Check the game and feature against AMD’s current supported-games list before troubleshooting a missing option. The list and requirements can change; the current AMD pages were checked on October 13, 2026.

Confirm support for the specific feature you want, not just the FSR or Redstone name. AMD lists Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 Series graphics cards for ML-based FSR Upscaling, but compatibility for the wider Redstone feature set is more restrictive. In particular, AMD lists RX 9000 Series for Redstone support, while RX 7000 Series support is listed for upscaling only.

These requirements apply to the features and paths stated in AMD’s current compatibility information; they do not mean every Redstone feature works on every listed GPU. If your existing hardware and driver meet the relevant requirements, the setup walkthrough does not require buying a new graphics card.
Choose the right enablement route

Do not assume the AMD Software toggle is a universal FSR 4 switch. It applies to supported games and upgradeable integrations; a title with native support may instead expose the control in its own menu.
Enable FSR Upscaling through AMD Software
- Check the current supported-games list. Confirm the game is eligible for driver upgrade, then verify the GPU and minimum Adrenalin version for the feature you want.
- Close the game. AMD’s driver-upgrade instructions use the AMD Software setting before launching the game.
- Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition. Go to Gaming > Graphics and enable AMD FSR Upscaling. If you also want frame generation and the game, GPU, and driver support it, enable AMD FSR Frame Generation as well.
- Launch the game. Open its graphics or video settings. Enable FSR 3.1 if it is not already enabled, then select the desired quality preset in the game.
- Check that the game is using the option. If FSR does not appear or cannot be selected, use the checks below rather than assuming the global AMD Software toggle applies to that title.
AMD recommends Radeon Anti-Lag 2 only in games that support it. It is not a general prerequisite for enabling FSR Upscaling.

Enable native FSR in the game menu
- Check the game’s current support and requirements. Confirm that the title offers native ML-based FSR Upscaling and that your GPU and driver support that feature.
- Launch the game and open its graphics or video settings. Look for FSR Upscaling or the older FSR 4 label.
- Turn the setting on and choose a quality preset. The available labels and menu layout depend on the game.
For a native implementation, use the game’s setting. The driver-upgrade steps are for titles where AMD Software upgrades an existing supported FSR integration.
If the FSR option is missing
- The title may not support the route you expect. Check AMD’s current supported-games list. A game with native support and a game eligible for driver upgrade are not interchangeable cases.
- The game may not have qualifying FSR integration. Driver-upgraded upscaling requires at least FSR 3.1. Driver-upgraded ML-based frame generation requires FSR 3.1.4.
- The feature may not be supported by your GPU or driver. Check the requirement for the specific feature: upscaling support is not the same as support for every Redstone feature. Install a driver version that meets AMD’s current listed minimum for your GPU and feature.
- The driver setting may have been changed while the game was open. Close the game, set the applicable option under AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition > Gaming > Graphics, and then relaunch it before checking the game menu again.
- The game may use a different label. Look for both FSR Upscaling and FSR 4; some in-game menus may retain the older wording.
AMD’s technical-preview notes described a global-graphics-settings workaround for Blades of Fire, Dragonkin, and Stellar Blade when a per-game profile was absent. That is preview-era guidance, not a general current fix. Check current AMD release notes before trying it, and do not treat the preview’s historical list of 65 titles as the current compatibility list.
Do you need a new graphics card?
Only consider a hardware upgrade if your current GPU falls outside the requirements for the particular feature you want. AMD’s listed support distinguishes ML-based upscaling on RX 7000 and RX 9000 Series from broader Redstone support on RX 9000 Series. If your current setup meets the game, feature, and driver requirements, enabling the setting is a software configuration task; a new card is not inherently required.
