If it does not, create a custom device profile using a practical iPhone 15 reference viewport of 393 × 852 CSS pixels, DPR 3.0, and the Mobile device type. Those are emulation values—not the iPhone’s physical screen resolution—and DevTools does not replace testing on an actual iPhone when iOS behavior matters.
Set up the iPhone 15 viewport
- Open the page you want to inspect in Chrome.
- Open DevTools, then click Toggle device toolbar in the DevTools action bar. This opens Device Mode. If the current interface is unfamiliar, use DevTools’ Command Menu to find device-related commands or open the Devices settings panel. See Chrome’s Device Mode guide.
- In the device toolbar, open Dimensions. Choose an iPhone 15 entry if one appears in the installed Chrome build.
- If there is no suitable preset, open the device list and select Edit, then go to Settings > Devices and choose Add custom device. Enter a name and dimensions; set DPR and device type as well for a closer profile. Chrome documents this workflow in its Devices settings guide.
- For a portrait iPhone 15 approximation, enter 393 for width and 852 for height, set DPR to 3.0, and choose Mobile for device type. Save the profile and select it from Dimensions.
The 393 × 852 CSS-pixel viewport and DPR 3.0 are a third-party emulation reference from YesViz, not values Apple publishes as a browser viewport guarantee. Apple lists the iPhone 15’s physical display as 2556 × 1179 pixels at 460 ppi in its technical specifications. Do not enter those physical pixel dimensions as the CSS viewport.

Check layout changes and mobile conditions
Portrait, landscape, and breakpoints
Use Device Mode’s rotate control to inspect landscape. To check responsive breakpoints, show the media queries and change the emulated viewport width across the relevant thresholds. This helps identify where layout rules switch, but does not prove that the same page behaves identically in iOS Safari.
DPR and image selection
Device pixel ratio is the ratio between physical hardware pixels and logical CSS pixels. Chrome uses DPR when drawing on HiDPI displays, and it can affect which responsive image assets a page selects. Set the profile’s DPR when checking behavior that depends on pixel density; keep viewport width in CSS pixels rather than substituting the physical screen resolution.

Network, CPU, and sensors
Device Mode can throttle network and CPU, and it offers sensor overrides such as geolocation and orientation. Use these controls when the question is whether a page responds under constrained conditions or to an overridden sensor value. They simulate selected conditions on the desktop, not the target phone’s full hardware or operating system.
Know what DevTools emulation can establish
Chrome describes Device Mode as a “first-order approximation” of how a page looks and performs on a mobile device: the page still runs on the desktop computer, with simulated mobile characteristics. It is useful for checking viewport layout, device type, DPR, throttling, and selected sensor overrides. It does not run the page on iPhone hardware.

Chrome also cautions that mobile and desktop CPU architectures differ and that emulators do not reproduce every browser API, CSS support, or behavior difference found in mobile browsers. For conclusions about iOS Safari, actual touch interactions, hardware performance, or a platform-specific bug, test on the target device and browser as well. Chrome’s guidance is: “When in doubt, your best bet is to actually run your page on a mobile device.” See Emulate and Test Other Browsers.
Troubleshooting
No iPhone 15 appears in Dimensions
Chrome’s available presets can depend on the installed build. Use the custom-device route instead: device list > Edit > Settings > Devices > Add custom device. Enter the reference viewport and optional DPR and Mobile device type, save it, then select it from Dimensions.

The page looks blurry or selects unexpected images
Check that the profile uses a DPR of 3.0 and that its width and height are entered as CSS pixels. The 2556 × 1179 Apple specification is physical screen resolution; using it as the viewport would produce a very different responsive layout.
The page looks right in DevTools but fails on an iPhone
Treat that as a reason to test in the target browser on real hardware. Device Mode is not iOS Safari and cannot establish platform-specific browser behavior, touch behavior, or phone CPU performance.
