To rename or remove a keyword across the items associated with it, use Collections > profile > Manage Keywords. Deleting a keyword removes that label from associated items; it does not delete the photos or videos.
Choose the right way to change a keyword
In Photos, keywords are labels associated with photos and videos that help you find them. The method you choose depends on whether you want to update one item or manage a keyword across its associated items.

Edit keywords on one photo or video
- Open the Photos app and select the photo or video you want to change.
- Tap the Info button or swipe up on the item.
- If no keywords are listed, tap Add Keywords, enter one or more keywords, then tap Done.
- If keywords are already listed, tap Edit in the keyword field. Make the changes or add keywords, then finish the edit.
Use this route when the correction belongs only to the selected item—for example, when one photo has a typo or needs a more specific label. It does not rename the keyword throughout your library.

- In Photos, tap Collections.
- Tap the profile control in the upper-right corner.
- Tap Manage Keywords, then select the keyword you want to manage.
- Choose Rename to change that keyword, or Delete to remove it from the photos and videos associated with it.
Choose Rename when the label itself needs correcting or updating. Choose Delete when you no longer want that keyword associated with its items. Deleting it here removes the keyword, not the underlying media.

Find items that have a keyword
- In Photos, tap Search.
- Enter the keyword, or look for a matching keyword suggestion marked with Aa.
- Tap the keyword suggestion to view the items associated with it.
Searching is useful before making a per-item correction if you need to locate a particular item. If your goal is to change or remove the keyword itself across associated items, use Manage Keywords instead.
Edit keywords on iCloud.com
Photos on iCloud.com offers another way to add or edit keywords on a selected item, which can be convenient when working in a browser.

- Open the item in Photos on iCloud.com.
- Open its Info panel.
- Choose Add Keywords or Edit, depending on whether the item already has keywords, and make the change.
To search by keyword on iCloud.com, Apple says Data Access and Search must be allowed. The iCloud.com instructions describe editing an item, not renaming or deleting a keyword across all associated items.

Keywords and captions are separate ways to describe or find media. If you meant to change a caption rather than a keyword, editing the keyword field is not the right operation. Photos’ search guidance treats caption search as a distinct capability.

If the controls look different
Apple documents the steps using the labels shown above, but the interface may vary with iOS changes and localization. Look for the item’s Info view and keyword field when editing one item, or for Manage Keywords under Collections and the profile control when managing a keyword. Apple’s cited instructions do not specify a minimum iOS version, so these steps should not be treated as a version-specific guarantee.
