How to Earn and Redeem Xbox Rewards Points

Earn points through eligible Xbox quests and Store offers, then redeem from the Microsoft Rewards dashboard. Availability, terms and rewards vary by region.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To earn Xbox Rewards points, sign in with the Microsoft account linked to Microsoft Rewards, check the Xbox Rewards hub for quests and eligible offers, complete the activity, and claim the points. To use them, open the Rewards dashboard for that same account and choose a reward currently available in your market. Quests, purchase offers, and redemption choices can change, so the live hub and dashboard—not a fixed points chart—are the reliable guides.

What Xbox Rewards points are—and where they come from

“Rewards with Xbox” is part of Microsoft Rewards. Points earned through Xbox activities join the same Microsoft Rewards balance used for other eligible activities, such as Bing searches and changing activities on the Rewards earn page. You do not need a separate Xbox points balance: use the Microsoft account associated with Rewards when you play, check offers, or redeem. Microsoft describes the program and its earning routes in Learn about Microsoft Rewards.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

The main Xbox-specific routes are completing quests and, where the offer and region allow it, buying eligible games or add-ons through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft also lists search and other Rewards activities, but the available tasks and daily limits vary by country and region. See How to earn Microsoft Rewards points.

Points are not cash. Microsoft states that “Microsoft Rewards points don’t have any cash value.” Their practical worth depends on the rewards shown to your account and what you want to redeem; there is no universal points-to-dollar conversion to apply to every member or region.

How to earn Xbox Rewards points

Complete Xbox quests

Quests are activities surfaced in the Xbox Rewards hub. Xbox describes daily, weekly, monthly, and limited-time quests, and some quests are exclusive to Game Pass Premium or Ultimate members. The particular tasks, point amounts, eligibility rules, and any minimum play requirements can change. Open the current quest details before starting so you know what counts and whether you need to claim the points after completing it. Xbox’s live overview is at Earn Rewards with Xbox.

  1. Sign in to the Xbox experience with the Microsoft account connected to Rewards.
  2. Open the Rewards hub and review the quests available to that account. Read each quest’s stated requirements, time window, and points.
  3. Complete the activity as described. If a quest specifies a game, mode, play time, or other condition, do not assume a similar activity will qualify.
  4. Return to the hub and claim the completed quest if it presents a claim option. Check the Rewards balance or dashboard to confirm the points were added.

There is no dependable universal “earn this many points every day” schedule. A quest may be limited-time, may not appear for every account, or may change its requirements. Use the live activity rather than an old quest list or another member’s screenshot to decide what to do.

Earn from eligible Store purchases

Xbox describes point earning on eligible games and add-ons, and says Game Pass tiers can provide higher purchase multipliers. However, Microsoft warns that Xbox purchases may not earn Rewards points in every country or region. Not every Store purchase necessarily qualifies, and advertised tier benefits do not establish that every product, transaction, or account will receive a multiplier.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Before spending, check the offer visible to your account, the product’s eligibility, your Game Pass tier, and the terms for your market. Treat points as a possible extra on a purchase you already want—not as a reason to buy a game or add-on you would otherwise skip. The relevant current Xbox information is on the Xbox Rewards page; broader earning conditions are in Microsoft’s earning guidance.

Compare playing quests with purchases

These routes differ in cost and predictability. The table summarizes what can be established from the current program descriptions; quest details and purchase terms shown to your account take precedence.

Play or complete a quest Finish the activity shown in the Xbox Rewards hub, then claim it when required. No purchase is inherent in a play quest; the qualifying game or task and any minimum play requirement depend on the individual quest. Current task, deadline, points, account eligibility, and claim step. Xbox does not publish one fixed amount for all quests.
Buy an eligible game or add-on Make a qualifying purchase through the Store under an offer that applies to your account. Requires spending; Xbox purchases may not earn points in every market, and not every purchase is established as eligible. Eligible product, market terms, account tier, and any displayed Game Pass multiplier before purchase.

Xbox’s page advertises higher purchase multipliers for Game Pass tiers and exclusive quests for Game Pass Premium and Ultimate. It does not establish a universal points forecast for a particular game purchase or play session. Confirm the live terms for your account rather than estimating a reward from another person’s tier or region.

Use other Microsoft Rewards activities if useful

Microsoft Rewards may also offer points for Bing searches, Microsoft Store shopping, and rotating earn-page tasks such as quizzes or trivia. Those activities add to the broader Rewards balance rather than creating a separate Xbox balance. Their limits and terms vary by market, so check the activities displayed to you in the Rewards dashboard. They are optional; you do not need to complete them to use points already earned through Xbox.

Check your balance and Level 2 status

Use the Microsoft Rewards dashboard while signed in to the same Microsoft account you used for Xbox. It is the place to review the balance and see current earning and redemption options. The Xbox Rewards hub is useful for Xbox-specific quests and offers, while the general dashboard reflects the broader program.

As of the Xbox Rewards page accessed in October 2026, earning 500 Microsoft Rewards points in a month through any method qualifies a member to earn and keep Level 2 status. That figure is a monthly status threshold, not a promised monthly Xbox payout or a guaranteed quest total. Check the current page and account dashboard for the status shown to you, since program terms can change. The threshold is described on Xbox’s Rewards page.

How to redeem Xbox Rewards points

  1. Open the Rewards dashboard. Sign in with the Microsoft account that holds the points. Xbox’s Rewards page also provides access to the hub.
  2. Browse the rewards actually offered to you. Catalogs vary by country, and a reward such as a gift card may be temporarily unavailable. Microsoft says it cannot confirm when a particular unavailable gift card will return.
  3. Read the reward details. Confirm the points required, denomination, region, delivery method, and terms before ordering. Do not assume that a reward shown in another country’s catalog is available to your account.
  4. Complete any requested verification. If asked for a phone number, use a working mobile or landline number; VoIP numbers are not allowed. Avoid redeeming while traveling in a different market or while using a VPN or proxy that obscures your location.
  5. Submit the order and retain its details. For a code or link, check Order History for the order information. A Microsoft or Xbox gift card redeemed through Rewards is deposited directly into the Microsoft account as promotional balance.

Microsoft’s current redemption instructions, including the warning that “Some gift cards aren’t always available through Microsoft Rewards – check back often!”, are in How to redeem Microsoft Rewards points. Because the catalog is account- and region-specific, the dashboard is more useful than a general list of redemption values.

  • THE PERFECT GAMING GIFT — Buy an XBOX Gift Card for yourself or a friend and let them choose the games, add‑ons, subscriptions, and accessories they want most.
  • USE FOR GAMES & CONTENT — Redeem for thousands of digital XBOX games, from backward compatible classics to the latest new releases, plus DLC and in‑game currency.

  • NO FEES OR EXPIRATION — XBOX Gift Cards never expire and have no service fees, so your balance is ready whenever you are.

Compare the rewards in your catalog

There is no single best redemption for every member. Compare the options currently displayed to your account by the points required, the value to you, how you receive it, and where it can be used. A code or link may require you to retrieve order details from Order History; a Microsoft or Xbox gift card redeemed through Rewards is credited directly as promotional balance. Check whether the reward is tied to a region or currency and whether its restrictions fit your planned purchase. A lower points cost is not automatically the better choice if the reward is less useful to you.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also weigh reversibility before ordering. Microsoft says Rewards orders are generally final, so a catalog item that looks attractive but cannot be used in your market or for your intended purchase may be a poor choice even if it is available today. Confirm the denomination and terms on the reward’s detail page rather than relying on a description or redemption example from a different account.

Understand whether an order can be undone

Check the choice carefully before you submit it. Microsoft says Rewards orders are generally final and cannot be canceled or exchanged for a points refund, subject to limited exceptions and applicable law. Review the Microsoft Rewards refund and exchange policy if you need to understand those terms; do not count on being able to reverse a mistaken selection.

What an Xbox or Microsoft gift card balance can buy

A gift card is one possible Rewards redemption, not a guaranteed option in every catalog. If a Microsoft or Xbox gift card is available and you redeem it, its value is deposited to your Microsoft account balance. That balance can be used for eligible purchases at participating Microsoft stores, including Xbox, subject to applicable region, currency, and product restrictions. It is account balance, not cash, and it is not valid for every item, subscription, service, or hardware purchase in every market.

Before choosing a card, make sure the balance can be used for the purchase you have in mind and that the card’s region and currency work with your account. Microsoft’s terms and instructions explain the restrictions: Microsoft gift cards terms and conditions, Redeem a gift card or code to your Microsoft account, and Spend the money in my Microsoft account.

Region, verification, and account rules to know

Use the account’s registered region

Rewards catalogs and terms differ by country. Redeem in the region where the Microsoft account was registered; do not use a VPN or proxy to make the service think you are in another market. Microsoft’s redemption help cautions against redeeming while traveling in a different region, and its guidance on getting the most out of Microsoft Rewards describes conduct that can put an account at risk.

Use accurate account details and ordinary participation

Use your own accurate Microsoft account information. Avoid bots, macros, multiple accounts, location-masking services, and attempts to earn or redeem across markets contrary to program rules. Microsoft says such behavior can put the account in question and may lead to suspension or point invalidation. Do not create extra accounts to try to increase an allowance or evade a restriction.

Know the phone verification limits

Microsoft may require a mobile or landline number to verify a redemption, and VoIP numbers are not permitted. Microsoft’s support guidance says a phone number may be associated with a maximum of six Rewards accounts per household; this is a verification troubleshooting limit, not advice to create multiple accounts. If verification fails, review the current instructions and wait before trying again if the service requires a waiting period. See Microsoft’s redemption help and program guidance.

Do Xbox Rewards points expire?

Microsoft’s current earning and redemption help says points expire after 12 months if you neither earn nor redeem any points during that period. The trigger is inactivity—no earning and no redemption—not simply failing to play Xbox for a year. If you want to keep a balance, check the account and make sure there is qualifying earning or redemption activity within the 12-month window. This rule is described in Microsoft’s earning help and redemption help.

Common problems and what to do

  • A completed quest did not add points: Return to the Xbox Rewards hub and check whether the activity has a separate claim step or whether its requirements are still unmet. Compare your progress with the quest’s own current description; a similar activity may not satisfy its exact conditions.
  • A Store purchase did not earn points: Xbox Store purchases are not eligible in every region, and not every purchase qualifies. Check the original offer, product eligibility, account tier, and market terms. Do not infer eligibility from another purchase or another member’s account.
  • A gift card is missing from the catalog: Catalog availability varies, and Microsoft says some gift cards are not always available. Check the dashboard again later; there is no stated return date for a specific unavailable reward.
  • Phone verification is rejected: Use an eligible mobile or landline number, not VoIP, and follow any waiting period displayed or requested before retrying. Keep in mind the household association limit described above.
  • A redemption appears to be in the wrong place: For a code or link, look in Rewards Order History. For a Microsoft or Xbox gift card redeemed through Rewards, check the Microsoft account’s promotional balance, which is deposited directly rather than delivered as a separate code.
  • You are considering changing location or accounts to redeem: Do not use a VPN, proxy, multiple accounts, or other workarounds. Use the account in its registered region and follow Microsoft’s program terms.

A practical way to make the points useful

Check the Xbox hub when you are already playing to see whether a quest fits what you planned to do. Claim completed activities promptly when the hub offers that option. Treat purchase points as incidental, verify eligibility before checkout, and avoid spending just to chase an uncertain return. When you have enough points for a reward you actually want, compare the live catalog’s points cost and restrictions, then confirm the region and final-order terms before redeeming. The current dashboard—not a fixed online points chart—determines what your account can earn and use.
