To reuse an OBS scene setup, copy its Scene Collection; to reuse stream, video, or output settings, duplicate an OBS Profile. Set up each YouTube live event separately in YouTube Studio, using Reuse settings if you want to copy an earlier event’s metadata, settings, and stream key. These are separate tasks: duplicating OBS scenes does not link them to a YouTube playlist or make OBS switch scenes when a playlist changes.
Choose what to duplicate
OBS separates scene layouts from encoder configuration. Its Scene Collections documentation says, “Scene Collections save all Scenes and Sources that have been added to it.” Collections can be switched for different setups and include Global Audio Sources configured under Settings → Audio, but they do not store output settings. OBS Profiles save stream, video, and output settings, but not scenes. The OBS feature pages are dated January 14, 2022, so menu appearance may differ in newer versions.

Duplicate an OBS Profile when settings need to change
- Open the Profile menu in OBS. Choose Duplicate to copy the current Profile, then give the copy a recognizable name. OBS documents Duplicate as a Profile action; it does not copy scenes.
- Adjust the copied configuration. Review the Stream settings, including the connected account or destination, then check Video and Output settings. A Profile is useful when a stream needs different output settings or a different connection configuration while keeping the scene setup separate.
- Select the right Scene Collection separately. If the scene layout should also differ, switch to the appropriate Scene Collection. A Profile and a Scene Collection can be used together, but neither substitutes for the other.
Use a Scene Collection for a different scene and source setup
- Open the Scene Collection menu in OBS. Create or select a collection for the stream setup you want. Collections let you keep different scenes and sources organized—for example, distinct arrangements for separate programs.
- Build or adjust the scenes and sources in that collection. Add the needed video, image, audio, or other sources to the scenes. The collection holds those scene/source arrangements; it does not preserve output configuration.
- Switch collections when you need another setup. Confirm the active collection before starting the encoder so the intended scenes and sources are in use.
Create or schedule each YouTube Live event separately
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. For a scheduled event, open the Manage tab and choose Schedule Stream, as described in YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Choose how to set up the event. Select Reuse settings to copy a previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key, or choose Create new for a fresh event.
- Review the copied details before continuing. Check title, description, privacy, schedule, and any other event settings that matter. YouTube allows changes after reusing settings; copying an event does not create an OBS scene or establish a playlist-to-scene relationship.
- Connect OBS to the intended event. Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder settings, or select YouTube directly if that connection option is available in OBS. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s instructions say to wait until the encoder preview appears in Live Control Room, then click Go live.
Protect and verify the stream key
YouTube describes the stream key as the encoder’s password and address. Reuse settings copies that key along with other event details, so verify that OBS is connected to the intended event before starting the encoder. Do not publish or share the key. If it is compromised, use YouTube’s stream-key reset workflow and update the encoder with the replacement key.

What duplication does not automate
- A duplicated Profile does not contain scenes; use a Scene Collection for scenes and sources.
- A Scene Collection does not contain output settings; use a Profile for stream, video, and output configuration.
- YouTube’s Reuse settings copies event details, not an OBS scene or a playlist link.
- The official OBS and YouTube instructions describe scene organization and event setup as separate tasks. They do not establish that a YouTube playlist changes the active OBS scene automatically. Do not rely on this workflow for playlist-triggered scene switching.
