Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe quickest reliable method is to dry a smaller load, remove as much water as the fabric allows with a high-speed spin, and choose the shortest cycle and lowest dryness target that produces the result you need. A washer-dryer combo generally cannot dry as much laundry as it can wash: guidance from Whirlpool, LG, and Haier for their respective models puts drying loads at about half a wash load. Overloading is therefore the first thing to correct.
After reducing the load, separate thick and thin items, use the fastest permitted spin, and select a regular or normal drying program at Damp Dry or Dry rather than Extra Dry. Cycle names and limits differ by model. The owner’s manual takes precedence over any general advice here, especially for hose routing, filters, heat exchangers, and water-free versus water-cooled drying systems.

Why a washer-dryer combo can take so long
Drying capacity is smaller than washing capacity
A combo drum may physically hold a full wash load, but the drying system needs empty space for warm air and tumbling. Whirlpool advises reducing the load to half the drum or less for the covered ventless all-in-one models in its long-dry-time guidance. LG says the drying capacity on its covered combo units is about half the washer capacity, and Haier gives similar advice to reduce the load by approximately half. These are model-family recommendations, not a universal capacity label. Use the load chart in your manual when it specifies a different amount.
If you wash a full drum and start an automatic dry cycle without removing anything, the clothes can form a dense bundle. Air cannot reach the inner layers, sensors may read the outer fabric inaccurately, and the cycle can run for a long time while the center remains wet. Splitting the wash into two drying loads usually saves more time than selecting a more aggressive temperature.

Combos remove water in two stages
Drying starts with the water left after the final spin. Every extra amount of water that remains in the fibers must be evaporated later. A fast spin, when suitable for the fabric and your model, is therefore the most useful preparation step. If a dry-only load did not spin out properly, LG recommends running a separate spin cycle first on the covered units described in its support guidance.
Ventless designs exchange speed for installation flexibility
Many all-in-one units are ventless. Whirlpool describes its covered condensate system as heating air in the drum, passing moisture through a water-cooled condenser, and sending the resulting water through the washer drain hose. That additional condensation process can make drying slower than a conventional vented dryer. A vented combo can be faster when a suitable duct is already installed, but the advantage depends on the specific product and installation.
Dryness targets can add unnecessary minutes
An Extra Dry or cupboard-dry target keeps heating and tumbling after clothing is already wearable. Whirlpool recommends Auto-Drying at Damp Dry or Dry instead of Extra Dry for the covered models in its guidance. A slight damp feel at the end of some ventless condensate cycles can be normal; Whirlpool advises removing those items and hanging them. Persistent wetness or a new decline in performance needs model-specific troubleshooting rather than repeated high-heat cycles.
Seven steps to shorten the next drying cycle
1. Check the manual’s drying-load limit
- Find the capacity or load-chart section for the exact model.
- Compare the wash load with the stated dry-load limit. If no separate number is printed, start with half the drum or less, matching the guidance from Whirlpool, LG, and Haier for their cited product families.
- Remove bulky pieces before drying if the load is close to the limit. Run a second drying load instead of compressing everything into one bundle.
Do not transfer a number from another brand or model. Even machines with similarly sized drums can use different condenser designs, sensor logic, and rated dry capacities.
2. Run the fastest suitable spin
- Select the highest spin speed allowed for the fabrics and for the chosen program.
- Use a gentler spin for items whose care label requires it; a faster setting is not suitable for every textile.
- For a dry-only load that feels unusually wet, run a separate spin cycle first if your model permits it. LG specifically recommends this preliminary spin in its covered-combo guidance.
Redistribute a badly unbalanced load if the machine repeatedly reduces the spin speed. The objective is to enter drying with evenly spun clothing, not to force a speed that the appliance will cancel for balance or fabric protection.
3. Choose an adequate, not excessive, dryness level
Use the normal or regular automatic program when it is available. On the covered Whirlpool product described in its support instructions, Regular drying with the Quick option is recommended for shorter results. For Auto-Drying, Damp Dry or Dry is faster than Extra Dry. LG’s dry-only guidance lists options such as Normal, Damp Dry, Low Temperature, and timed drying, but also says availability varies by model.

4. Keep the load loose and compatible
- Shake out garments before placing them in the drum so sleeves and trouser legs are not twisted together.
- Combine items with similar material and thickness for more predictable sensor readings.
- Do not place a tightly folded thick item inside the drum. LG troubleshooting guidance warns that folded, thick clothing may not dry well.
- Remove very bulky pieces and dry them separately when they block smaller items from tumbling.
Mixed loads are possible, but a group of lightweight synthetics and heavy cotton towels will finish at different times. The sensor may stop when the thin pieces are dry while the towels remain damp, or continue running to satisfy the thickest item.
5. Check the basic water and drain conditions for your design
LG distinguishes between general combo models that use a small amount of water to condense moisture and newer water-free systems with different drain requirements. On the general design described by LG, check that the taps are open, hoses are not reversed, inlet filters are not restricted, and the drain-pump filter is maintained according to the manual. On the newer water-free design, LG says the drain hose should descend smoothly without forming a U-trap.
Those checks are conditional, not universal installation rules. Do not change hose routing or remove a filter until the manual identifies the part and procedure for your model.
6. Clean only the filters and heat exchanger your model specifies
Lint, residue, or restricted heat-transfer surfaces can reduce airflow or condensation efficiency. Samsung’s support guidance for its Bespoke AI Laundry Combo says to check the lint filter and heat exchanger. Other machines may use a different filter arrangement or require user maintenance at different intervals. Follow the exact cleaning method and frequency in the manual; do not assume that a visible panel on one model is a serviceable filter on another.
7. Judge the result before changing settings again
Some ventless condensate systems can leave clothing slightly damp at cycle completion. Whirlpool recommends taking those items out and hanging them. That is different from a load that remains wet throughout, develops a new long-dry symptom, or becomes progressively slower. Record which load size, spin, program, and dryness target you used, then use the model troubleshooting guide if performance remains poor.
Control settings that usually save time
| Control | Faster choice | When to avoid it | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Load size | About half the wash load, or the manual’s stated dry capacity | Never exceed the model limit to save a cycle | Whirlpool, LG, and Haier give approximately half-load guidance for cited families; exact limits vary |
| Spin | Fastest permitted spin for the fabric | Delicates or items with a lower care-label limit | Use a separate spin first for an unusually wet dry-only load where the model allows it |
| Dryness target | Damp Dry or Dry | When storage requires completely dry clothing | Whirlpool says these targets avoid the extra time of Extra Dry on its covered model |
| Program | Normal or Regular; Quick where the model offers it | Special fabrics that require a dedicated low-temperature cycle | Names and available options differ by model |
| Temperature | The lowest setting that safely dries the load | Do not use a hotter setting against the care label | LG lists Low Temperature as one possible dry-only option, with availability varying by model |
How vented and ventless combos compare
Vented and ventless are meaningful design differences, but neither label gives a universal drying time. A vented unit exhausts moist air through ducting, so it may dry faster when the home has proper ductwork. Samsung’s buying guidance says to choose a vented washer-dryer combo when suitable ducting exists and faster drying performance is the priority.
Ventless units avoid an exterior duct and can fit where ducting is unavailable. Condensate systems recirculate or cool moist air and route collected water to the drain, which adds a moisture-removal stage. Installation simplicity can therefore come with longer cycles. The exact result still depends on load size, spin speed, fabric, room conditions, and the named model.
| Samsung buying-guide figure | Configuration and cycle | What the number means |
|---|---|---|
| 68 minutes | Vented Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, Super Speed wash-and-dry cycle | Samsung specification for the named vented models in its 2026 buying guide; not a category-wide test result |
| 98 minutes | Ventless Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, Super Speed wash-and-dry cycle | Samsung specification for the named ventless models in its 2026 buying guide; not a typical time for every ventless combo |
Samsung also recommends a Super Speed load under 10 lb for the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo support guidance. That figure belongs to that model family and cycle; it is not a universal limit for washer-dryer combos.

Towels and other thick cottons
Thick cotton holds more water and can wrap around smaller garments. Wash and spin the load, then remove enough pieces to leave ample tumbling room. Dry towels together when possible so the automatic sensor is not trying to balance very different moisture levels. If a single large item repeatedly stays wet, dry it alone or with a similarly thick item within the manual’s limit.
Synthetics and lightweight garments
Light fabrics can reach a dry sensor threshold quickly. Use a lower temperature or the fabric-specific program when the care label requires it, and avoid Extra Dry unless you need storage-ready clothing. Removing the load promptly reduces the temptation to extend the cycle simply because a few items have cooled inside the drum.
Mixed loads
Sort by thickness before drying. If you cannot sort, keep the load well below the maximum and use Normal or Regular rather than an aggressive specialty setting. Check the thickest item at the end; a dry outer layer does not prove that a folded waistband, pocket, or towel center is dry.

Model-specific checks when drying remains slow
Whirlpool covered ventless models
Whirlpool’s long-dry-time guidance starts with a load of half the drum or less and recommends Auto-Drying at Damp Dry or Dry instead of Extra Dry. Its covered condensate explanation says drum air is heated, moisture is condensed through a water-cooled condenser, and water leaves through the washer drain hose. A slight damp feel can be handled by removing and hanging the items. If the load is still wet, follow the troubleshooting path for the exact model rather than assuming all ventless behavior is normal.

LG states that the dryer capacity is about half the washer capacity on its covered combo units. For a dry-only load that did not extract enough water, it recommends a separate spin cycle first. Its general-system checks include open taps, correctly connected hoses, unrestricted inlet filters, and a maintained drain-pump filter. For newer water-free systems, LG gives different drain-hose guidance: the hose should run downward smoothly without a U-trap. Confirm which design you own before applying either set of checks.
Haier models
Haier’s guidance also recommends reducing the load by approximately half. Treat that as a starting point for the relevant Haier family and verify the appliance’s own capacity chart, program names, and filter instructions before changing settings.
Samsung Bespoke AI Laundry Combo models
Samsung support identifies the lint filter and heat exchanger as checks for its Bespoke AI Laundry Combo. Its Super Speed recommendation is under 10 lb for that model family. Clean and inspect only the components the manual identifies, and keep the named cycle and model attached to that load figure.
A practical decision path for a long-dry complaint
- Was the drum close to full? If yes, split the load and retry with about half the wash quantity or the manual’s dry limit.
- Were the clothes dripping or unusually heavy before drying? Run the fastest permitted spin, or a separate spin cycle where supported.
- Was Extra Dry selected? Try Normal or Regular at Damp Dry or Dry, provided that result meets your needs.
- Did thick and thin items finish together? Sort by material and thickness, and avoid folded bulky pieces.
- Is the system ventless, and is slight dampness the only symptom? Remove and hang the load, as Whirlpool advises for its covered condensate system.
- Has performance changed or does the load stay wet? Check only the model-specific taps, hoses, filters, drain path, and heat exchanger instructions. Contact service if the manual’s troubleshooting does not resolve the change.
What not to assume
- Do not assume a washer-sized load can be dried in the same drum space.
- Do not treat 68 or 98 minutes as normal times for all combos; Samsung lists those numbers only for named Bespoke AI Laundry Combo Super Speed cycles.
- Do not apply a water-cooled condenser explanation to every machine; LG describes newer water-free systems with different plumbing requirements.
- Do not install a vent or reroute a drain hose based on another model’s instructions.
- Do not keep extending the cycle to solve an overloaded or poorly spun load. Correct the load and extraction first.
- Do not infer that an accessory, replacement part, or cleaning product is necessary unless the model’s manufacturer specifically identifies it.
When a vented combo is worth considering
If your home already has compliant ducting and drying speed matters more than avoiding an exterior vent, Samsung’s buying guidance favors a vented combo. If ducting is unavailable, a ventless model may be the practical choice, but plan around smaller drying loads and potentially longer cycles. Compare the manufacturer’s stated dry capacity, cycle-specific times, installation requirements, and maintenance instructions rather than relying on the vented or ventless label alone.
