Decide whether you need a subscription
For browser modeling, a subscription is not required. As SketchUp’s Help Center puts it, “SketchUp for Web does not require a SketchUp subscription.” The paid plans differ in desktop access: Go includes web and iPad modelers but not the desktop modeler, while Pro includes the desktop modeler and adds 2D documentation. Check the current plan page for availability in your region and billing terms; older displayed prices may not reflect current offers.

Check device compatibility first
SketchUp’s system requirements list desktop versions 2024, 2025, and 2026 as supported; version 2023 and earlier are unsupported. The listed supported operating systems include Windows 11 and macOS 14 or later, including macOS 15 and 26. Internet access is needed to install and authorize a subscription.

- Recommended: a 2 GHz or faster processor, at least 8 GB RAM, 6 GB of available disk space, and a discrete graphics card.

Mac desktop

Browser modeling
For SketchUp for Web, SketchUp recommends current Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge. The app uses WebAssembly. Where supported, WebGPU powers the newer graphics engine; the app checks for WebGPU and enables that engine by default when available.
Download and install the desktop version
- Open the official download page and check the requirements for your operating system.
- Choose the Windows or macOS installer. On Windows, select the offline installer if that is the installation route you need; it may take longer to download because it includes available languages.
- On Windows, open the installer with administrator privileges and follow the on-screen prompts.
- Launch SketchUp and sign in with your Trimble ID when prompted, particularly if you are installing a subscription version.
The Windows online installer supplies required Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 and .NET Framework 4.5.2 components if they are missing. Previous SketchUp versions do not need to be removed before installing or updating. SketchUp recommends keeping graphics drivers current. For installation problems or a Windows Defender “unrecognized” warning, follow the current official installation instructions rather than relying on an old workaround.
Install or start on another device
Browser
Open SketchUp for Web in a recommended browser and sign in with a Trimble ID. No desktop installer is needed, and browser access does not by itself require a subscription.
iPad
Find SketchUp in Apple’s App Store, as directed by the official download page. Confirm that your iPad meets the current requirements before installing.
